Election 2012: Information and Discussion Post

12:03 am - 11/06/2012

UNTIL IT WAS DOWN TO TWOOOOOO (States that is - Ohio and Florida, lbr)

Our live, updated, borrowed from CNN/MSNBC/C-SPAN coverage won't begin until 6pm EST (you know-when I get home from my jerb) but use this post to discuss early exit polls, Get Out the Vote efforts and where you can be helping out either campaign (lol) today.

It's almost over everyone :)

One last thing, decisions are made by those who show up. Show up.

legit cannot wait for it to be wednesday.
pleasure_past 6th-Nov-2012 01:00 pm (UTC)

Assuming Obama wins. If Romney wins I want us to be caught in an endless loop of election days until my goddamn native country can get it right.
shadowwolf1321 6th-Nov-2012 05:08 am (UTC)
I can finally vote today! Polls are open in NY from 6am-9pm I believe. I'm so nervous about this. I don't want to fall asleep and have a Mittens nightmare again.
ragnor144 6th-Nov-2012 04:53 pm (UTC)
I actually had a dream that Mittens was a decent human being and we became friends. It was terrifying.
teacup_werewolf 6th-Nov-2012 05:09 am (UTC)
I am not excited to wake up BUTTFUCK early to go vote or the craziness of it being Ohio and all. GODDAMN IT OHIO..

can't believe it's here. i really think obama will win but i'm still so nervous.

my brother posted that stupid "obama will be winning until republicans get off of work" thing on his fb so i need obama to win tbh
forevertiffanys 6th-Nov-2012 05:11 am (UTC)
I had a friend who posted that crap and I just rolled my damn eyes.
forevertiffanys 6th-Nov-2012 05:10 am (UTC)
So fucking excited for this crap to be over with. I have finals for my nursing class tomorrow so I am pulling an all nighter. I have to go vote in the morning, go to class, then my boss asked if I could come into work. When I finally get to go home I am stopping by the liquor store so I can drink while watching the election results.

Oh and I just walked upstairs to talk to my mom and she was watching Fox News, I wanted to vomit.

Oh man, I'm freaking out :(. I have a good feeling about it but I'm still nervous.

I'm voting after work, I hope the lines aren't terrible, I've never voted so late in the evening before.
schexyschteve 6th-Nov-2012 05:12 am (UTC)
Yeah, I can only vote after work at 6. I hope lines aren't crazy long :(

Anyway, to kick things off, here's the World According to Nate Silver:

Obama is currently at 98.1% to win the EC.

Needed to win: the solid blue states (those over 90% likely to vote Obama) plus ONE of the following:

1. just Ohio and nothing else

2. just VA and NH

3. just VA and Idaho

4. only Idaho, Colorado and New Hampshire

Any of the above will lock it in. Florida not required, though it polled as light blue as of today.

So yeah, I say to hell with it, I'm not going to freak out. I'm just calmly anticipating the numbers to play out, despite the media's frantic attempts to Bring the Drama.

I think Colorado will go blue.
____jonas 6th-Nov-2012 05:11 am (UTC)
I'm so worried about the Warren/Brown election. Nate Silver has Warren with a 93% chance of winning, but her campaign sent out an email saying that Brown was winning with likely voters.

Does anyone know how accurate Silver is with senate elections?
timeofdying 6th-Nov-2012 05:14 am (UTC)
Where can you find the info about senate races? I need to see if they predict good news for Sherrod Brown. :S

I don't know how I'm supposed to sleep and wake up early for voting/class. I'm so god damn nervous.
schexyschteve 6th-Nov-2012 05:16 am (UTC)
I'm already up way too late. I'll see you all tomorrow, with the alcohol and freak outs.
teacup_werewolf 6th-Nov-2012 05:17 am (UTC)
I'll with you BB

New Yorkers, remember that if you're displaced by Sandy or having trouble getting to your polling place due to transit/gas issues, you can vote at ANY polling place by affadavit.
roseofjuly 7th-Nov-2012 12:30 am (UTC)
I feel like I've been running around shouting this. It wasn't very widely circulated news; I only found out because I have NYT set to push big headlines to my iPad. And only the day before the election!
ellenel13 ot but i'm kind of freaked out6th-Nov-2012 05:17 am (UTC)
okay someone commented on one the very few posts i have on my journal to say they got a crush on me and that they want to hook up

i don't recall ever talking to this person and they linked to something call "city sex" and they want me to sign up to see their profile pics

i don't want to hook up with some random person i've never spoken to, but i kind of want to know who the hell

is it safe to assume this is spam? has it ever happened to anyone before?

eta because coty =/= city

Can't sleep. Trying to funnel nervous energy into NaNoWriMo. Someone tell me it's going to be okay. :(

silver_apples 6th-Nov-2012 05:39 am (UTC)
No election reassurance, but...

50000 words! You can do it!

I'm hoping that the line to vote isn't too slow tomorrow morning so I can vote before work and go to the write-in in the evening.
masakochan 6th-Nov-2012 05:20 am (UTC)
I found this on tumblr earlier:

rjdaae 6th-Nov-2012 05:22 am (UTC)
I'd laugh if I wasn't so terrified. XD
cyranothe2nd 6th-Nov-2012 05:20 am (UTC)
I'm so excited, you guys!!! Gay marriage and marijuana legalization are both leading in my state!!!!

ETA: Reading about all the voter suppression nonsense and long lines, I have never been so glad that our entire state just votes by mail. We got our ballots 2 weeks ago, voted and checked the website today to make sure they'd been received and verified. I honestly don't know why every state doesn't do this.

i'm nervous, even with the likelihood that obama will win. but i can't wait for this to be done. i can't wait for all the romney signs to come down. i can't wait for the ads to stop airing. i can't wait to stop getting mail ads from all the local politicians.

really not looking forward to whatever ridiculous, racist shit my dad is gonna have to say, though, and having to block it out because i can't do another huge verbal blow-out where he refuses to listen because no one else matters. his bullshit makes me hate him, and i hope he decides to put a plug in it before i end up getting myself booted out of the house.
onehoureternity 6th-Nov-2012 07:57 am (UTC)
Seconding the wanting the ads to stop airing. The other night, I literally saw four in a row. There were a few for the local Senate race, but still. Overkill. And I'm sick of my mother and brother bashing Obama.
dixiedolphin 6th-Nov-2012 05:29 am (UTC)
So, my polling place here in my new California home is literally right next door! It's one building over from my own apartment building. I think I'll just casually stroll down the stairs after breakfast, calmly do my civic duty, and then take the dog for a nice leisurely walk.

And then I'll go to work, turn on a live stream, and bite my nails until the polls close. :P
deathbytamarind 6th-Nov-2012 06:31 am (UTC)
Same, my polling place is at a church a block away from my place. I'm getting up early and getting there when they open, then going to class in the morning. Strongly considering skipping my afternoon class and drinking while watching CNN.

I am also in California. :)

My only class for today got cancelled so i've got the entire day to focus on this :)

My professor said it was because he was sick, but im pretty sure he only did it because he didn't want to come to class on election day either.
gretchystretchy 6th-Nov-2012 05:30 am (UTC)
I am just so ready for this to be done. I'm trying to stay positive by constantly checking fivethirtyeight, but I won't be okay until it's been called for Obama.
