I guess nobody told her the Australian PM is a woman and an atheist

It must be quite a shock for Julia Gillard to find that President Barack Obama's re-election somehow transformed her into Australia's male, Christian president who "actually supports what he says".

Confused? So was Kristen Neel, a teenager from Georgia, who gained Twitter infamy in Australia in a matter of hours on Wednesday evening.

After news President Obama won four more years, the 18-year-old tweeted: "I'm moving to Australia, because their president is a Christian and actually supports what he says."

She has since deleted her Twitter account, but search tool Topsy showed she was retweeted over 1500 times.

Before she went offline, Ms Neel tried to explain.

"I was referring to the prevous (sic) office that actually had a moral position," she wrote.

Australian political and media observers didn't take long to pounce, sending out numerous tweets.

"I was referring to the prevous (sic) office that actually had a moral position," she wrote.

By that logic, our previous president was, uh, Bush, so she should be happy to stay here in the US.

I THINK she was refering to John Howard, the previous PM who despite being our right wing, is still probably left of Obama. He was the one who made our gun laws as tough as they are and his government invented middle class welfare.

I was explaining gun politics to an American the other day, and had to bring up that it was implemented by a conservative politician with bi-partisan support after Port Arthur. I got the distinct impression from her vibes (though she was too polite to say) that she was thinking 'omg, your gov took all your guns, poor oppressed nation'.

Idiots. I loathe Howard and everything he did to our country, but what he did after Port Arthur was nothing short of amazing. He took on everyone, including the Nationals and said 'this will never happen again' Best thing he did while in govt.

When I tell people how strict Australia is with all weapons, not just guns, they kind of boggle. I had a friend in Queensland who played softball and she talked about how she couldn't keep her bat in her car unless she was on her way to a game. If she were stopped she'd have to prove she actually played the sport with it.

That's so odd...I hate Howard with a passion, and one of the two things I will ever admit he did well was the implementation of strict gun laws.

Except that Kevin Rudd was PM before Julia Gillard and that kid would have been like 14 when Howard lost power.
