I guess nobody told her the Australian PM is a woman and an atheist

It must be quite a shock for Julia Gillard to find that President Barack Obama's re-election somehow transformed her into Australia's male, Christian president who "actually supports what he says".

Confused? So was Kristen Neel, a teenager from Georgia, who gained Twitter infamy in Australia in a matter of hours on Wednesday evening.

After news President Obama won four more years, the 18-year-old tweeted: "I'm moving to Australia, because their president is a Christian and actually supports what he says."

She has since deleted her Twitter account, but search tool Topsy showed she was retweeted over 1500 times.

Before she went offline, Ms Neel tried to explain.

"I was referring to the prevous (sic) office that actually had a moral position," she wrote.

Australian political and media observers didn't take long to pounce, sending out numerous tweets.

Is this woman significant at all? why are people piling up on her over one stupid, ill-informed tweet?

Because it's an extravagantly stupid, ill informed tweet. It's so whole-heartedly wrong it becomes beautiful.

Which Australian president is she talking about? We have a president?

Meanwhile our PRIME MINISTER is female, atheist and generally operates in a more liberal political climate than anything Obama has suggested to date.

...read her tweet again, and tell me she's going to function in Australia. XD

It was picked up in Australia because of how insanely stupid it was. As koken pointed out we have a female, atheist Prime Minister. Generally the 'BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA' tweets get covered (and there have been other articles about people who want to move to Australia which have been met with bemusement) regardless, but this one is just so mind blindingly stupid that it defies belief.

It also fits the narrative that Americans generally have no clue about the outside world.

It got retweeted by a lot of people. And was mind-numbingly stupid. Plus people are in a schadenfreude mood. Though I still prefer pointing and laughing at Karl Rove whose ROI was worse than I dreamed of. One candidate out of the ten he supported won. One. If that doesn't make you point & laugh, nothing will.

I hadn't seen that number, and it filled me with warm fuzzy joy.

I'm still laughing over his epic meltdown on Faux News Tuesday night.
