Mitt Romney Campaign: We Lost Florida To Obama In Presidential Election

Mitt Romney's campaign said that President Barack Obama won the state of Florida in the race for the White House.

The Miami Herald reports that Romney adviser Brett Doster said in a statement, "The numbers in Florida show this was winnable," and added, "We thought based on our polling and range of organization that we had done what we needed to win. Obviously, we didn’t, and for that I and every other operative in Florida has a sick feeling that we left something on the table. I can assure you this won’t happen again."

The Sunshine State has 29 electoral votes. Going into Election Day, polls showed Romney and Obama running extremely competitively against one another.

The president carried Florida in his campaign against then-GOP presidential nominee John McCain in 2008.

Romney delivered a concession speech early on Wednesday, just after midnight even though the outcome of the race in Florida was uncertain at the time. It was clear that the president had won enough electoral votes to secure another term in the White House.

"I ran for office because I'm concerned for America," Romney said, "Like so many of you, Paul and I have left everything on the field. We have given our all to this campaign."

I'm still so happy the election didn't hinge on Florida this year.
jeweledvixen 9th-Nov-2012 09:42 am (UTC)
My thoughts exactly. Florida just can't seem to get its voting act together. I'm so glad they weren't needed this time around to make the call.

Yes, yes he is.

I wonder how many democratic ballots are in a trash can somewhere... I know it happens.
jessyryan 9th-Nov-2012 07:17 am (UTC)
No joke, When my Mom went to turn her absentee in a random, her description, bum pointed to the trash can and said "That's where all the Obama ones go." He wasn't an official or anything, just a voter so it wasn't legit but JFC.
shortsweetcynic 9th-Nov-2012 07:03 am (UTC)
:) Just submitted this as well.

Cool story bro: I actually know Brett. I knew he did work with the Romney campaign, but it was kind of a surprise to see his name pop up as The Voice Of The Republican Party in FL.
shortsweetcynic 9th-Nov-2012 07:09 am (UTC)
and as a postscript: fuck you, rick scott. you have done NOTHING and I look forward to seeing you voted out soonest. jesus, even charlie crist's increased homestead exemption that ended up making my mortgage payment HIGHER since the local taxes had to go up to compensate was *something*...but you, governor scott, have done NOTHING.

except this, and you failed at it, and fuck you for cutting early voting short. that was how you addressed your obviously valid concerns?
beetlebums 9th-Nov-2012 07:18 am (UTC)
I've been making jokes (only slightly serious) how the next Presidential election that Florida have to complete voting a week before election day to give them time to count the votes.

But Brown is up for reelection in '14....hopefully they vote his obstructionist ass out
jessyryan 9th-Nov-2012 07:23 am (UTC)
It's Rick Scott, not Scott Brown. :p :) And YES we cannot wait to get rid of his ass. Charlie Crist might run again and he's not great but pales in comparison to this douche. Hell, I'd vote for a cardboard box against Rick Scott. A week of voting would be wonderful, Democrats would win every time.
wikilobbying 9th-Nov-2012 07:35 am (UTC)
lmao took us long enough. how were we counting the votes, with tally marks?
abiding 9th-Nov-2012 07:53 am (UTC)
Final-fucking-ly, shit. At least it wasn't like the country had to wait for us to go one way or the other, but it's still annoying that our electoral votes don't really mean shit in the end, just an ego boost. I'll still vote in the next presidential election, but like hell will I wait 3 hours to do so. I so hope us Floridians can be sensible and toss Fuckass Scott out on his ass before then and get our eight lost early voting days back.

Whoops, didn't mean to go on a rant there.

I'm pretty sure that all Floridans are allowed to rant about the fuck up electiony things.
moonbladem 9th-Nov-2012 09:14 am (UTC)
TBH, I thought it was an inevitable result that Florida would go to the President. I'm glad all the votes have finally been counted and the result is out.

Rick Scott has to go. I hope all those Floridian voters who stood in line for hours, some reportedly until 2am, remember how he made it so difficult for them to vote and boot his ass out in 2014. Kudos to the voters who were determined to stay in line in order to exercise their right to vote, even if it took several hours.
danceprincess20 9th-Nov-2012 01:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah, nice try by Scott and the legislature. Too bad their shortened early voting and insanely long ballot didn't work. They also lost their super majority....ha!
keeperofthekeys 9th-Nov-2012 01:52 pm (UTC)
Amazing work by the Obama folks (and other groups supporting him) in Florida.

So, what, he's curled up in his cave some where, holding on to it and saying, "MINE"?
flyingwild 9th-Nov-2012 03:18 pm (UTC)
A good friend of mine lives in Florida and was really getting pissed that they refused to call the state and that he felt like his vote didn't matter. So I went and posted this to his facebook - should cheer him up!
ragnor144 9th-Nov-2012 04:46 pm (UTC)
Unless it has been in about the hour, Florida does not have official results yet.
randomtasks 9th-Nov-2012 03:47 pm (UTC)
YASS.

Can't wait for Rick Scott to be voted out of office and for Allen West to finally concede.
ragnor144 9th-Nov-2012 04:51 pm (UTC)
I read up on the West situation. Apparently his court documents to impound the voting machine and ballots were so messed up that he even failed to name a defendant. I find that hilarious.
sesmo 9th-Nov-2012 05:14 pm (UTC)
That man cannot stop bullshitting.

Given our all?

Paul kept his House seat. He lost very little.

Romney kept all his money. He lost very little indeed.

Compare that to the people who gave up their jobs to work on the Romney campaign, and then had their cell phones & credit cards turned off right after the concession speech. THOSE people gave their all. The candidates? Not so much.
