Neo-Nazi rally disrupted by army of clowns

12:59 am - 11/13/2012
A group of neo-Nazis held an anti-immigration rally in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, but their demonstration was overshadowed by a horde of cheerful clowns.

Local media reported that the neo-Nazis were outnumbered by about a five-to-one ratio. The clowns shouted “white flour,” while others came with signs reading “wife power.”

“The straight up message from us is you look silly,” said Lacey Williams of the Latin America Coalition. “We’re dressed like clowns and you’re the ones that look funny.”

The National Socialist Movement announced the event in October, giving the Latin America Coalition plenty of time to plan a counter-demonstration.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the National Socialist Movement is one of the largest neo-Nazi groups in the country. Like the American Nazi Party that proceeded it, the group idolizes Adolf Hitler and believes only Caucasian people should be allowed to live in the United States.

i know there is nothing that should surprise or shock or appall me after this long, but i swear to god, neo-nazis do it every time.
rex_dart 13th-Nov-2012 03:46 pm (UTC)
tbh I wish I could be shocked, but Nazis are this looming presence in modern history, and if you're a complete asshole it must be easy to find a twisted kind of romance in that. The people who shock me now are the ones who build bunkers in their yards and spend their time hoarding baked beans and training their kids to use assault rifles.

See, I don't understand why my tax dollars are going to police who protect blatant domestic terrorists, so they can intimidate Americans. How is that legal? Great protest. I think this is a turning point in our country, where this kind of shit just gets you shunned and ridiculed hardcore.

As awful as they are, I prefer a system where no one is in a position to withhold protections or rights to free speech from a group they happen to disagree with :/

That said, this could be a goldmine for investigative data on those who affiliate with violent terrorists...

heard about this yesterday - very effective action to take against ignorance. i love it!
fluffydragon 13th-Nov-2012 03:28 pm (UTC)

My news station also covered it - and got some reaction from the hate group:

The National Socialist Movement maintains they are not a hate group or neo-Nazis.

Well then what the fuck are they?!
xayeidemon 13th-Nov-2012 03:30 pm (UTC)
I'd watch the video, but I'm terrified of clowns. I'm glad to hear they made the neo-nazis look like the jokes they are, though!
das_kat 13th-Nov-2012 03:58 pm (UTC)
Jesus, I saw some guy dressed as a clown yesterday evening. He was just standing there waving when I passed him in the tram. Clowns will never not be creepy. *shudder*
furrygreen 13th-Nov-2012 03:49 pm (UTC)
Oh! That rocks! I love that! That's a very original protest. I loved the "Rufus Power!", "White Flour", and all that. God only knows those idiot white power pity party people probably wanted a fight. Hopefully they'll be made fun of over this enough to think before devolving into hate.

I don't know why the KKK is so fucking mad, though. It's not as if rich old white men haven't already bought the country. They should be proud.

Yessssss! :)

LOL I swear I learned more about late 1970s-early 1980s American politics from listening to the Dead Kennedys than I ever learned in school
redstar826 13th-Nov-2012 05:08 pm (UTC)
a group did this a few years back too. If I recall correctly, the Nazi asshats got all butthurt and took their balls and when home

Yes, I saw some pics on tumblr. Great idea!
mercystars 13th-Nov-2012 05:56 pm (UTC)
for once, I'm happy that there were clowns present.

Clearly someone has been listening to their old-school Henry Rollins spoken word CDs.

That is some glorious trolling. A+++++

(BTW, don't we have a "troll irl" tag or something similar?
zinnia_rose 13th-Nov-2012 06:46 pm (UTC)
That is kind of awesome. If there's an appropriate use for clowns, this is definitely it!
mskye 13th-Nov-2012 07:22 pm (UTC)
*sheds single tear*

That'll do, clowns. That'll do.
halfshellvenus 13th-Nov-2012 07:27 pm (UTC)
What an awesome solution to a gathering of very ugly people!

I find clowns creepy as all get-out, but "cheerfully-weaponized clowns" in an approach like this? Creative and fantastic!
maynardsong 13th-Nov-2012 10:46 pm (UTC)
I'm actually not at all a fan of Freakanomics, but that book still talked about how the KKK fell. It wasn't through exposing the hatred or righteous anger, but some kid got wind of exactly what went on in meetings and shared it and it was just too goddam STUPID. And that's what I thought of upon reading this.
chimbleysweep 13th-Nov-2012 11:53 pm (UTC)
As though I needed proof that clowns are the best.

Our father who art in heaven, Joseph Grimaldi be thy name.

casketscratcher 14th-Nov-2012 02:08 pm (UTC)
This is fantastic. I would love to see this approach to counter-protesting hate groups taken up elsewhere. Show them we won't take them seriously and take away their power!
