[Trigger Warning; rape, child-abuse] Twenty years ago, an underage girl who became pregnant as a result of abuse. She was too young to be pregnant. Doctors lined up to say that she should have an abortion. She wanted an abortion. Her parents wanted her to have an abortion.
...not only did the Government refuse to allow any Irish hospital to terminate the pregnancy, they CONFISCATED HER PASSPORT so she couldn't go to the UK for an abortion.
It took the European Courts to force them to back down. The theoretical compromise was that a termination could be performed in circumstances where the woman's life was in danger.
