O, you mean our thousand years of darkness has begun?

for those who are not familiar, plz look up Chuck Norris & his wife's Youtube video. Yes. I said Chuck Norris

Checking in!! This has been a really doozy of a week with 3 projects due within 2 weeks of each other. No complaints: it can be worse and I'm still very fortunate.

I hope I shake off the funk and the blues. It's easier to look at how people seem happy when in reality, I don't really know if they're genuinely happy or not. So... yeah. I hope bb poetic_pixie_13 will deliver with the awesome optimistic and self-love promoting comments! I always look forward to those when I'm feeling down.

I won a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card at work for correctly guessing the makeups of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

So my question to you

Here were the things I've been kicking around:
-Gravity's Rainbow + Reader's Guide
-Ulysses + Reader's Guide
-Angela Carter books
- A book in a foreign language + language book (Either Borges+Spanish or Calvino+Italian)
brittlesmile Re: BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS17th-Nov-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
I love Ulysses so much, so that'd be my recommendation.

Also, my Greek prof brought in Anne Carson's 'translation' of Antigone today (Antigo Nick) and OMG IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL, so that is also something I'd highly recommend.

hihi, _p....how was your friday?

for those wondering about my interview with the credit union, i think it went okay(? i never seem to be a good judge of if people like me or not). now i won't find out til after Turkey Day if i got chosen, but i'm still hopeful.

(and somehow i applied for two positions without knowing it, lol. so if they pick me, i could either be in the call center or a teller. i'm cool with either...in fact if given a choice and the pay was the same or whatever, i'd pick the call center. i could handle dealing with phones all day)
autumnleaving 17th-Nov-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
Hi bb! My friday went from neutral to slightly "meh."

I hope the interview went well! I'm sure you did better than you think. Keep positive!

I am happy!

I'm out of the wing woman place as my friend and her boy of choice like each other and stuffs. So yay! I don't have to ask him to do stuff with her anymore. (And, y'all, we're in college. I'm 31. Too old for that crap.)

I am going to celebrate with some hot chocolate!
kagehikario 17th-Nov-2012 09:23 pm (UTC)
Ahahahaha I feel you. Life is so much easier when my friends are in stable relationships or happy with their singleness (as opposed to the violent tempest middle ground)

I have a few poly friends who are the magic catch 22 of this; I never know when I shall be called upon to celebrate their fresh twitterpation XD
layweed 17th-Nov-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
this week blows. actually, this year continues to blow. i look forward to 2013 with tepid anticipation.

Wanna cookie? My Russian friend's mom found some yummy cookies and she sent them home. Along with homemade bread and sausage, but the sausage is long gone.
countrygirl_914 17th-Nov-2012 12:28 am (UTC)
I need to get my shit in order, you guys. My apartment is messy, my sleep habits are atrocious, and I haven't worked out in forever. :-/
layweed 17th-Nov-2012 12:30 am (UTC)
I hear you. I need to finish packing my apartment, find an apartment to move to before I get kicked out of this one at the end of December (easier said than done 'cos I gots no jorbs) and get my life together.
beuk 17th-Nov-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
I got a haircut! This is major news because I had hip length hair and I went kind of A-line bobish. I think the bangs need to be shorter, but overall I'm pretty happy with it.

Also, I'm in the mood to swap tumblr URLs. Mine!

Today is really muggy, stormy and hot, which sort of reflects my mood - it's the second birthday that my best friend (who died of cancer at 17)isn't here for, and it's exactly a week till the second anniversary of his death. I hate remembering people on the day they died, so I'm wearing an orange t-shirt (his favourite colour) and I am going to spend the day doing some of his (and my) favourite things - playing tuba, playing D&D and going out with friends today, to remember him.
shortsweetcynic 17th-Nov-2012 12:49 am (UTC)

A friend of mine from high school died in a motorcycle accident two years ago in January. He and his wife - who was in my graduating class - had three kids together and he was the nicest guy ever...such a gentle soul.

So I know how you feel. It's never easy. Hugs and fuzzy purple blankets, love.
brittlesmile 17th-Nov-2012 12:30 am (UTC)
This guy I met at comic con just loaned me a bunch of out of print queer comics to read. WHY MUST I STILL BE IN SCHOOL AND HAVE PAPERS DUE, I just want to sit and read comics all day.
kahluaandcream 17th-Nov-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
Oh other awesome things:

My adagio teas got here within two days! The teas are: Ten, Captain Jack, Mycroft, and Harry Potter. I also got TARDIS tea and Moriar-tea as gifts for friends.

And yesterday my thesis proposal got accepted! So I'll be making my game-like application next semester and testing it on real live people!

On the sucky side, I got asked out but I already had plans that day. And Sunday I leave for home for Thanksgiving vacation, so...yeah. I am utterly, utterly hopeless when it comes to this stuff.
layweed 17th-Nov-2012 12:36 am (UTC)
Are they any good? I have their ingenuiTEA tea maker thing but I've never looked into their tea. Can't say I'm really a big fan of wittily named teas though...

so what are you reading this week, _p??

i'm working on the lovely Hillary's autobio. i gotta say Chelsea was one cute freaking baby and i can't believe college age Bill dug the hippie look, lmao.
autumnleaving Re: BOOK THREAD HERE17th-Nov-2012 12:36 am (UTC)
OH MAN... My Goodreads list exploded.

I finished "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" main series + working on the side stories now. Got a bunch more books like "The Gift of Fear," "Cloud Atlas," among others. My tastes are scattered all over the place right now. Whatever grabs my attention, I go for but I generally favor the young adult fantasy, sci-fi, action genre
borderline_mary 17th-Nov-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
(First shenanigans post!)

I'm busy playing phone tag with my realtor and my loan officer since the offer my husband and I made on a house just got accepted. Waiting for my friends to get here so we can have Exalted.

Also I have Thursday and Friday off next week! I'm not sure if there's a family thing this year, but even if not, I won't miss being at work those two days, especially since I agreed to come in for half of Sunday.

This week blows, this month blows.

Got let go from my 10-hour a week job on Wednesday cause boss couldn't afford to keep me, but hasn't paid me what she owes me for 4 weeks, so I was making $2.50/hour for a damn month. Got bills come due and I have $26 to pay them with, not even 1/8th of what they are. can't file for unemployment since I haven't paid in enough to get something out of it.

Foodstamps got cut 70% this month thanks to my job (that I'm just getting rich off, right?) because my boss didn't get the form done right that said "yes, he is working here and only making so much". Now I'm fired, so it won't be straightened out in time for December and hope to frell they roll over some benefits because I will be hungry all month because my job didn't give me enough money to buy food with to make up the difference. (I should've been cut 10-15% based on my hours, not 70%.)

Found out 88year old grandmother had a stroke andt hat's why she had all that mysterious internal bleeding for a week. Want to go see her, but I am legit too broke to afford gas to drive down to see her.

So glad my kids are at my parents house this weekend.
bellichka 17th-Nov-2012 12:35 am (UTC)
Y'all, I started a new job in August, and I'm liking it a lot. But my boss's life is a mess. She's living with both her husband and her ex-boyfriend, wants to leave her husband, isn't having sex with either of them, and neither one of them has a job (they're both grown men in their 40s/50s). And she tells me ALL ABOUT IT. I know more about her personal life than I do my own.

That said, she wants to hook me up with our cute 20-something colleague who's getting his doctorate, is impressed by my love of LOTR, and got a smile on his face when I told him I have the new star wars angry birds on my phone. So.... maybe?

(1) Parent-Teacher night was this week. I hate these things. It's always mostly parents of OVER-ACHIEVERS who (a) come in to ask "what happened to the other 5%?" (if their kid's mid-term is like EIGHTY-FIVE PERCENT), or (b) parents coming to hear someone other than themselves gloat about their kid. It's never the parents of the kids who are flunking out of existence, natch. Smh.

Next term, for parents who have no reason to come in, Im just going to start going, "Congrats, you kid is brilliant. So brilliant, in fact, that you should probably just reward them with a convertible. And not that second-hand shit, neither".

(2) Me and poetic_pixie_13 are tentatively going to hangout this weekend. She's saddled with the task of being snarky/angry/militant/swarthy with me over pub grub, and making me forget about this highly stressful week by drowning me in pints of micro-brew, cackling while doing so. The latter is totally okay/consensual; we're married n' shit.

(3) Been window shopping for guitars for a month or two now; want to try to get myself one for Christmas. Went through the same process last year, but with an acoustic guitar, but couldnt find a decently priced one in time for Christmas. BUT! I scored one shortly before my birthday, so if I cant find one by December no biggie. I just want to capitalize on holiday deals/discounts, haha.

Also, first entry in my top 5:

IT'S LIKE AN ELEGANT VERSION OF SOMETHING SLASH WOULD PLAY. Super-light for a Les Paul style hard body (THEM JOINTS ARE USUALLY HEAVY). This one's an Ibanez. Also, unf.

Anyway, running out to a different music shop with different specials.

idk i'm friendless too.

chicken curry after like half a week of pasta (i finally FINALLY went to the store after months of eating random shit i could find at CVS and/or whatever other food i ordered)

i wish i could help you with where to find a job, i've been looking on Craigslist, Indeed, Simplyhired, as well as government job listing websites such as USAJOBS.gov. you won't always get a response, which really fucking sucks, but don't take it personally, it's just how it is. if you really want the job you might wait a week, then email the contact person listed and gently raise the issue of whether your job application was received.

idk relationships suck.

i don't have any way of playing Words with Friends. :(

So, I had a doctors appt today for an ongoing issue I'm having with my right breast. Turns out I have to have a ductogram done to see if its a blood clot or an intraductal papilloma causing my symptoms (which are kindof gross so I wont go into them). If they find either, it means surgery and testing. If they find nothing it means more observation. My ultrasound was 'inconclusive'. :/

My boss gave me stinkeye when I had to book today off; worrying about what would happen if we got an urgent system change late in the day (my colleague had to leave an hour early today to pick up her kids). First of all? My health trumps work. Second of all? My colleague and I cover your department all the time, scheduling your data (even when we're both slammed); and someone from your department cant watch our end for an hour? UGH. I'm just tired of both of us being unappreciated. (And even if there was a change order, nothing would be able to be done until Monday anyway, so it's all moot).

It's not like I WANTED this to happen, and it was a 'fun day'. If my doctor was going to go to second base with me all the time like this at least they could buy me dinner, ffs.

(And kudos for anyone that has their nips pierced. Mine are STILL sore after my appt today, holy shit.)

Used to have mine pierced, they were hard for about 3 months and almost too sore to wear clothes with, holy crap.
