Oh shit

You're a ninja
redstar826 26th-Jan-2013 02:48 am (UTC)
lol I was gonna edit this in my first comment to make it a little less pointless, but since I can't, you get another pointless comment from me but this time with OWL BURRITO!

mycenaes 26th-Jan-2013 02:50 am (UTC)
omg :')
maynardsong 26th-Jan-2013 02:50 am (UTC)
So good news, I broke a ten month dry spell. The bad news is that it could have gone a lot better. Circumstances made it awkward, but those circumstances aren't issues any more, so I contacted the dude to see if we couldn't go for it again. And I'm being ignored!

And I don't actually care about this dude, but after I've just demonstrated outright that I desire no strings attached sex and all he says is "Maybe!" and ignores me when I ask how this weekend looks...

...I mean, the stereotype goes that guys will fuck anything with a pulse. And I stated outright that that's what I want. And I'm being shot down for it. Makes me feel like I'm being a woman wrong. Any words or insights or anything of the sort, _p?
kagehikario 26th-Jan-2013 04:00 am (UTC)
From a gay man, men can be crazy fickle, whatever the stereotype says. As the tag says, "Men Suck" :p You put yourself out there and were straightforward with what you wanted, which is awesome and totally what you should do :)
seishin 26th-Jan-2013 02:50 am (UTC)
I have brutal cramps. D: Caved and took an Aleve.

ebay313 Work Question26th-Jan-2013 02:53 am (UTC)
Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anyone here has some resources that might be helpful for me at work. I work with an online bachelors program and I'm trying to find research on what things work best- specifically in terms of online communication, though also program set up can be helpful, and one big issue people at work want to know about is how to keep students feeling connected to the university even if they never physically come to the university.

I'm really interested in research on this especially because some of the tactics being used and promoted I think are not actually helping but I can't really back that up. (For example, very frequently contacting students with lots of information- multiple times a week. My thought is that this just becomes information overload, and students get in the habit of ignoring the emails and then miss important information, because the important information is mixed in with so much other stuff. But I have nothing to back this up except knowing that this is MY response to getting emails all the time, frequently without any information I actually need.)

I've already pulled a bunch of article I'm working on going through, but thought I would see if anyone here knows of anything relevant to this :)
theciz Re: Work Question26th-Jan-2013 06:09 am (UTC)
Not really sure but, re the email thing, my school used to do that all the time and it was super annoying. Eventually the student reps complained about the spam and now we get one Law School Weekly email round-up, except for urgent/last minute notices that get sent separately. It's way more manageable that way imo.

The last two weeks have been the most debbie downer ones I've had in years.

So my aunt who was diagnosed with cancer has 6 months to a year to live. My mom kind of broke down with that news and got really, really upset. My dad is doing good with his chemo (great, actually! His blood count is the best since he was diagnosed last June), but he only has until the end of this year for treatments and then he told me there's nothing they can do so we might lose them both around the same time.

The good news is my aunt in Texas is flying up in a couple of weeks and I hope all of them can spend time together. And my sister in Texas is coming up soon too to spend time with my dad and my aunt and all of us. I suspect my aunt in Washington state might come up soon as well.

Hugs, bb. My thoughts are with your family!!
castalianspring 26th-Jan-2013 02:54 am (UTC)
Quiet Friday night as usual, just rejoicing that the weekend is here!

Buried in job applications but for now I'm distracted by all the amazing new vids in this year's Festvids gift exchange (master list found here for anyone interested!)

Current fave is Va Va Voom, an amazing League of Their Own vid that made me pull out the movie to watch it again, but I'm loving both of the vids that were done to Florence and the Machine's "Seven Devils" too: one for Gormenghast and one for Kings. This is my fave gift exchange of the year, NEGL. ♥
mycenaes 26th-Jan-2013 02:57 am (UTC)
omg Gormenghast! I'll have to watch that video soon. :D
mycenaes 26th-Jan-2013 02:55 am (UTC)
So I signed up for heroinebigbang! I'm excited. :D
the_gabih 26th-Jan-2013 03:52 pm (UTC)
Me too! /high fives

Which fandom are you doing yours for?
cher_arlequin 26th-Jan-2013 02:55 am (UTC)
Apparently my snide commentary has made it into my university's newspaper:

(In case you are wondering, the original article is exactly as bad as it sounds.)

Lol, I get so irrationally irritated when I see animation that gets the stomping wrong. Still cracked up at this, though.
countrygirl_914 26th-Jan-2013 02:57 am (UTC)
I got Brussel sprouts in my latest CSA-type thing. Recipe suggestions? From what I've seen on Food Network shows, including bacon is always a good thing.
teacup_werewolf 26th-Jan-2013 02:59 am (UTC)
I usually boil them and add lemon dill and butter on mine,
keeperofthekeys 26th-Jan-2013 02:57 am (UTC)
I had a shit week. Started off with a UTI, which I've never had before. Holy Fucking Shit. I had no idea how terrible they were.

My science hasn't been working since mid-November and I keep trying new shit and it's still broke. I am never going to graduate and get my PhD, let alone publish a paper.

But at least tonight I have wine and a cuddly cat.

Edit: This gif is kind of making my life, though

If you try to springboard in a kayak, you're gonna have a bad time.

Music reccs? I'm looking for new music. I'm open to all genres.

If you're into swing at all, there's a pretty great contemporary swing band called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy out there:

It's like 70s and humid as hell here. Oh and it's only worse because at work somehow my end of the building has whack heating AND I'm right under a vent so I'm pretty much dying all day long. :(

Can we change? I bought this great waterproof jacket that's all snug and stuff but the weather got warm enough that I can't wear it. :(

So GW finally sent me my refund, I can no pay rent for the rest of my lease! I also met some new people at school, yay for being social!

So on Monday my roommates and some other GW grads I know went to inauguration.

Y'all are gorgeous! It looks cold as hell out, though, yikes.
brbsb 26th-Jan-2013 03:02 am (UTC)
Boring Friday night here courtesy of some strange virus thing going around my work. No fever, but insanely tired, sore, coughing, sore throat, congestion, etc.

Of course, my insane roommate has decided to spend her evening blaring bad, old music and slamming doors regularly.
blondebeaker 26th-Jan-2013 03:04 am (UTC)
I am so freaking glad I didn't have to leave the city today. 80 car pile up outside the city shut down hwy 401.

Other than that I've been researching the family tree, mostly my Grandfather's side and got a HUGE lead. Just need Barnardo's to get back to me so I can get his admissions package from the home and find out at least one of his parent's name because apparently our last name is common in the UK.
brbsb 26th-Jan-2013 03:06 am (UTC)
80 cars?! I've always wanted to research my family tree, but I always get overwhelmed.
otana 26th-Jan-2013 03:08 am (UTC)
I had my first big audition today and blew it outta the water! Getting my first SAG voucher and updates for my IMDb and just so freakin' excited and proud of myself!

AND it's my birthday tomorrow! I've got a charity fundraiser instead of presents and it's already at $50. Best birthday ever. :3
mycenaes 26th-Jan-2013 03:09 am (UTC)
congrats, bb! :D

_P, I'm really pissed off because the State of NJ just announced they're evicting the non-profit Garden where I've volunteered/worked for ten years... to give the land to the privately-owned, for-profit Aquarium next door. It fucking sucks. Here's a link:

alryssa 26th-Jan-2013 05:57 am (UTC)
Fuck. That blows. I'm sorry. :/

Sorry to hijack your thread, but are you still doing the textbook thing? I'm looking for something and would love to have more options than the usual searches.
bellichka 26th-Jan-2013 03:21 am (UTC)
I'm on day 25 of gluten-free and dairy-free.

Also, Cassandra Claire is married and I am not. Sigh.

Today was my first day off in about three weeks. And it snowed! My husband and I had to buy groceries because we were out of EVERYTHING, and we now have enough groceries to last us through the zombie apocalypse. Bless Aldi.
coraki TW: Depression, Suicide, Racism26th-Jan-2013 03:28 am (UTC)
Love that gif.

Well been better. My SO has been super depressed and been having suicidal thoughts/feelings. He has talked to those closest to him and he wasn't feeling better like he thought he would. We took him to the ER on Sunday, just to try and do something. Get some kind of ball going. They made an appointment to see a therapist on Wednesday. On the 15th we're going back to see a Psychiatrist. In the meantime he sleeps all day and is up most of the night. He hardly eats. I've been trying to distract him with to either watch a movie with me or go somewhere, but he doesn't want to do those things. I'm at a loss of what to do. I have to work, so I can provide for my own medical needs.

I've gotten pretty distant at work not talking to many. Then when I do talk to some I happen to mention it's "Hug an Australian Day" (at least I thought it was). My cousin was posting Australian pride stuff today. Then people at work are like "Oh what about 'Hug a Mexican Day'" or as the other white girl (other than myself) put it 'Hug a wetback Day'. I said "Wow. That's really derogatory." I wasn't the only one to mention this. She's like "I meant it as like literally as you have a wet back." I say "You only just happen to say that after someone mentions Mexican." We just had a big meeting a week ago, the second in command for the state was there and went over things that can be considered harassment and then she makes this comment. This co-worker has done other stuff that has irritated me, but I'm trying to get along. They are responsible for their own actions and have no one to blame, but themselves for their "joking". I will be mentioning this to my manager next week (tonight wasn't good). I'm not overreacting right?
beuk Re: TW: Depression, Suicide, Racism26th-Jan-2013 03:58 am (UTC)
you're not overreacting. Slurs are totally inappropriate for the workplace and should be mentioned, especially when your co-worker has such a cavalier attitude about it.

I am typing this on my new laptop! That may not sound like a big deal, but to me, it is. I have wanted one for, like, EVER, and I finally have one!

This means:

-no more fighting for access to our family desktop; whenever I want to use the computer, I CAN and WILL use the computer, period, full stop
-I can set ALL settings and preferences, of ALL kinds, the way *I* want them on this machine, without others complaining about my choices and/or changing shit I don't want changed
-no more putting off doing things like FireFox updates due to someone else having the said application open in their account
-I can use it in any room of my house (I <3 my wifi!) so I no longer have to choose between watching TV and going online (there's no TV in the room where our desktop lives); the next time this comm has a live post about something that's happening on TV, I can fully participate!

The list goes on and on. Suffice it to say I'm ridiculously stoked about the whole thing. I'm still not fully settled in (I need to get all my files copied over, and the keyboard has some quirks I'm still getting used to). But the only real drawback is that my new toy has fucking Windows 8 on it. (WTF were you thinking, Microsfoft?!?!?) I've just started researching ways to cut down on the suckage (i.e., make 9 look and act more like previous versions of Windows); if anyone has any good links or pointers on the topic, please let me know!

I don't understand why Microsoft can't release consecutive good versions of Windows. Boggles my mind.
