Owner Of Oklahoma Restaurant Gary's Chicaros Club Says He Refuses To Serve Gay People...

5:44 pm - 02/08/2014

One Oklahoma restaurant owner says he doesn't want to serve gay people.

"I really don't want gays around," Gary's Chicaros Club owner Gary James told NBC affiliate KFOR-TV after a reporter asked him about several comments accusing the restaurant of discrimination. "Any man that would compromise his body would compromise anything."

"I've been in business 44 years. I think I can spot a freak or a f****t," James told the news station.

James has used similarly inflammatory language in the past. In 2009, when he ran for Enid city council, James told a local news outlet that he did not approve of people wearing hats in his restaurant.

“I have one rule that does away with 95 percent of the trash,” James told the Enid News and Eagle at the time. “If they are rude enough to wear a hat inside a building, I don’t want them here. Most of those little f****ts have their hats on backwards.”

“I don’t like girlie men. I’m not fond of men with all kinds of metal in their face,” he also said. “My customers don’t want them around, and I don’t want them around. I don’t consider that racist."

It should be noted that refusing to serve a gay customer appears to be legal in Oklahoma. Although the state protects people from being turned away from businesses for their race, gender or religion, it does not offer that protection for sexual orientation.

But, apparently, it's not just homosexuality that James dislikes. The restaurant's signature T-shirt features an image of a target with a list of groups -- including Muslims, blacks and Democrats -- written on it, KFOR-TV notes.

And customers have definitely taken notice of the environment.

"I cannot rate this food since I cannot be served," one reviewer wrote on Yelp. "Visit Taco Bell instead. It's a crappy taco, but at least it doesn't come with hate sauce."

Gary's Chicaros Club did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Huffington Post.

counting the days til this fucker gets shut down for breaking the law....

because while LGBT people aren't protected from discrimination (and fuck you, OK, for that) you can't discriminate against all the other people he ~*doesn't like*~. I'm seeing comments that he kicked out a customer who was in a wheelchair, tho I'm still looking for confirmation.

ETA: and boycotters are apparently having fun getting back at this asshole: http://progressivepopulist.org/2014/02/09/revenge-bigot-owned-oklahoma-restaurant-rebranded-gay-bar-online-reviewers-video/

Seriously, does he really NOT know there are laws about things like this? The blatant ignorance of the ADA--just that one alone is making my head feel like exploding.

Omg that's the best revenge :D

Yeah, the guy he kicked out who was in a wheelchair is a longtime customer who didn't care about discrimination until he was in a motorcycle accident, ended up in a wheelchair and was told to GTFO. Now all of a sudden he's outraged. Fuck that guy.

OMG, the reviewers on Yelp are having a field day with this. I hope it tanks his business. Hand of the free market, bbs.

Wow.. some of those are NSFW. XD. Hilarious. I wonder how they got the 'gay bar' photos up on yelp? Can anyone upload photos?

Well, I now know a lot more euphemisms than I used to.

This place is apparently a somewhat popular hangout for personnel from the local Air Force base.
sixdemonhag 10th-Feb-2014 04:46 am (UTC)
And I bet that place will be made off limits any time now.

do they still have to call it alledged discrimination when he's so proud to talk about it in public?
deathchibi Re: for the OP - article with a quote from the disabled man10th-Feb-2014 06:22 am (UTC)
I think they do it for legal purposes, so it can't be pulled up to use as 'see! The jury was BIASED' type stuff. Also so the news place can't get nailed for slander or libel for saying he is discriminating (even if he completely is).
wrestlingdog Re: for the OP - article with a quote from the disabled man10th-Feb-2014 01:08 pm (UTC)
That's my understanding as well.
moonshaz Re: for the OP - article with a quote from the disabled man10th-Feb-2014 10:02 pm (UTC)
Yes, it's definitely a legal tactic.

How would he even know who to kick out based on beliefs, ie. the muslims and democrats etc?
Unless they are wearing badges/symbols.

Anyway, a guy here did the same around the time the Iraq war began, he refused to serve anyone from any of the countries that were against the war
lied_ohne_worte 11th-Feb-2014 01:48 pm (UTC)
I suspect he is sure he can tell Muslims by their skin colour.

he refused to serve anyone from any of the countries that were against the war

*snort* If I went somewhere that stated it didn't serve Germans, I'd think it was because of the last war we started, rather than because we didn't go along with attacking Iraq. So we have made progress, after all.
