3 weeks of student teaching left. There will be so much partying sleeping when I am done with this, OMG.

Also, as a big ol' homo who normally loves the Olympics, uggg, so many feelings :(
layweed 10th-Feb-2014 01:37 am (UTC)
I've barely watched 5 minutes of the Olympics. Just can't bring myself to care.

Getting a lot of use out of the Kindle! I've gone through all of the old Legends of Lone Wolf novels, Battletech, on Shadowrun now. I really wish the powers that be would convert older, out of print novels to ebook format because I'd love to be able to read them. All that old Spelljammer and the old Shadowrun novels and everything.
blackjedii 10th-Feb-2014 01:42 am (UTC)
I just keep telling people "Just think! The World Cup will be there in four years!"

...that is not a good thing, given how Brazil is faring.
blackjedii 10th-Feb-2014 01:41 am (UTC)
So my sinuses have been hell on earth this week and it's mainly been pressure / disorientation which really sucks because it's worst in my building and in my office but bearable to nonexistent outside of work. It's amazing because all but two of the managers have come down with this crud and I don't know if I was stupid or lucky to be able to still work when the other two confirmed cases had to take several days off.

Got my tax return back. Stuffed most of it away but I did buy a handful of Breyer horses. >.> Annd I bought a silver dollar for $26.00!

I really want to buy Bravely Default but it's sold out around here and I'm not sure I want to digitally download it as I have a hit and miss history with JRPGs. I'm going to play Dream Drop Distance in the meantime mostly because I really enjoy the controls / fight aspect of it even though Kingdom Hearts is one of the weirdest series ever.

Also Benedikt had his first round of shots and will have his kitty bits chopped off soon. He did surprisingly well on leash and mostly sat on my shoulders the whole time.

I super want to watch the Olympics but instead I'm stuck living at the library. Avoiding the mountain of work I should be doing.
squeeful 10th-Feb-2014 01:48 am (UTC)
I...kinda have a date for next Sunday?

*cue panic*

We're redoing my bathroom because it is old and it leaked into the floor, rotting the beams below. If/when we ever sell this house, the new owners are going to be all "wtf?" because everything I picked out is deliberately smaller/shorter than fixture standard. I'm 4ft 11, okay, I do not want my feet danging when I'm on the toilet.

This week I finally (after 3 years) told my boss that I've been struggling with depression. I feel a lot better having it out there and I think it's helped alleviate the frustration from me not getting all my work done recently.
ladypolitik 10th-Feb-2014 02:42 am (UTC)
So many fucking empathetic hugs, IM DROWNING YOU IN THEM
shoujokakumei 10th-Feb-2014 02:12 am (UTC)
I spent the entire day depressed as fuck and bordering on a panic attack for no reason. No meds left since I lost my insurance in November and haven't gotten approved for Medicaid yet, and I'm also out of weed, so not much to be done about it. Then when I went on Tumblr and started posting gifsets I made to make myself feel better, someone starts complaining about how much they hate the character I'm posting, so now I feel even worse.

Damn, lemme extend my mood disorder themed hugs to you too :/ Been a crummy week for a lot of folks that way

I have not watched any of the olympics, which is pretty usual for me- I rarely watch them. Have read some of the stuff about Sochi problems which is sort of amusing and sort of scary.

I'm still sick and getting worse somehow. Thinking I might need to go see a doctor even though it's mostly just cold symptoms, it's been about 3 weeks, and it just has me so exhausted I can't even function at all. I mean, I have fatigue issues normally that make it hard, with this I just can't...

I also have a question for any folks on _P who having hearing difficulties.
So I have an inner ear disorder that causes hearing loss. It's something recent to the last few years, and even worse very recently. Still it's only minor hearing loss but has enough effect that I have trouble hearing people a lot. I've a few times had folks confront me about ignoring them when they said hi or something to me- because I didn't hear them. Which I then explain. But it makes me really nervous now about how often people try saying something to me (particularly if I can't see them when they do), and I have no idea, and then people just assume I'm rude and ignoring them. So I was just wondering if there are any other folks with poor hearing who've had similar issues, and moreso if there are tricks or anything people have come up with for not having people get offended if they try talking to you and you don't hear them?
rex_dart 10th-Feb-2014 02:32 am (UTC)
I don't have hearing loss but my mom is totally deaf in one ear. If she realizes she's missing something she usually just says something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, I have trouble hearing on that side," then makes sure to visibly give whoever was talking her full attention - pausing in what she's doing, making eye contact, smiling, etc. From observing her, I think that last part really helps make interactions go smoothly even if people might have felt annoyed or ignored at first, because it means she gives an explanation for why she didn't hear but also is immediately proactive about remedying the situation.

Visiting instructor coming in this week to teach the aikido classes and then we head down to Richmond for a seminar this weekend. It's exciting! :D

moonshaz Cats in snow pic spam!10th-Feb-2014 02:33 am (UTC)
I. Am. Sick. Of. Winter.

Arctic temperatures. Snow. Ice. Bundling up in 55 layers of clothes. Scraping crud off my car windows every time I want to go anywhere. ALL. OF. It.

In an effort to alleviate some of my frustration, I hereby declare: LET THERE BE PIC SPAM!

astridmyrna Re: Cats in snow pic spam!10th-Feb-2014 04:38 am (UTC)
omg that last cat.

But I relate with the cat who could not feel its face. Only, I was at a tiki bar at Disneyland last week and was teetering on the edge of tipsy and looking into the cavern of utter drunkenness, as my face was basically numb, and I kept poking it because it felt weird.
mdemvizi 10th-Feb-2014 02:39 am (UTC)
Have the Olympics on in the ground since I have a bunch of homework due tomorrow, blergh.

But I was so sick all weekend and it was the worst. My nose has been stuffed up all day, my throat has been hurting, and god my chest hurts when I breathe in or out. If I don't feel better tomorrow I am calling the doctor because I can't get through the week with this.

We got a puppy a few weeks ago! I am so tired :p.

His name is Morgan and he was found as a stray. He's at least mostly German Shorthaired Pointer. Not only does he have those spots but he "points", has the correct coat/ears/etc., has webbed feet...basically meets most breed standards. Black and white isn't accepted by AKC but is by other kennel clubs. Plus, around here they're all bred as hunting dogs so color doesn't matter much to the breeders.

He's basically insane but I love him. He's actually helped a TON with my depression and anxiety problems. I already had a dog but she's older and not interested in going places or meeting people/dogs. Morgan, however, is super active and social. He has me on a normal sleep schedule because he wakes up super early, he forces me out of the house, and he's made me way more active (I have to walk/jog with him throughout the day to keep him calm). He's also very snuggly and in tune with my moods. Plus, his friendliness towards people/kids/dogs has forced me to interact with my neighbors and I even made a new friend.

My original dog, Sophie, has benefited as well. She always hated other dogs, even the ones she lived with and was used to. But for some reason, she likes Morgan and the two play together. She NEVER plays with other dogs! He even taught her to play tug o war and to pick up sticks in the yard. Since she's an inactive senior, this is all great for her.

I'm hoping to do agility and/or dock diving when he's old enough. He's only about 4 months old (but could be closer to 5 months, we're not sure).

This morning I nearly had a panic attack at the thought of going to work. So I called in.

I don't want to quit before I have something else lined up but I've been at this place barely two months and it's taken such a huge toll on me. It doesn't help that large parts of the job were never disclosed to us until well into training, nor were the things they consider most important to it ever actually taught to us.

The only thing that makes me feel less bad about wanting to just leave like I do is the fact that 5 of the 27 people in my training class have already quit.
seishin 10th-Feb-2014 03:17 am (UTC)
Lots of stuff...

Went and saw AFI with my roomie/bff; she LOVES them, I never really got into them, but knew their singles. FANTASTIC live, holy crap. Also awesome seeing the crowd losing their minds. I havent been to a show with a pit in eons, so it was nice to know I haven't 'lost it' in my old age. :P

I'M GOING ON VACATION! :D Heading to Fort Lauderdale in March to meet up with snowbirding parents for a week. Cheap and desperately needed, and I can't WAIT to escape the snow. Any tips on sightseeing, restaurants/food trucks, local 'tips & tricks' and non-touristy stuff, as well as shopping (can link you to my Pinterest) are completely welcome!

Having issues with a colleague. Lots of colleagues have issues with the person. Sad because I liked them and defended them to others in the office, but then realized how conniving and shady they are. And *then* found out they were trashing *me* to my colleagues! But they announced they've quit/resigned/flounced, and will be done Friday. *shrug*

i caught a bit of the men's figure skating while at the gym. trying NOT to watch in protest but my eyes kept drifting to it. the Japanese skater whose entire routine i saw skated wonderfully (and is pretty cute).

for the rest of my treadmill time, i watched part of the Westminster Dog Show. so many fascinating breeds! tho i'm still WTFing at how the owner of the Portuguese Water Dog finalist had his fur styled....the front looked like pics of Bo Obama, while the back end was shaved off with only a lion tuft on his tail.

Incredibly nervous this week. I have a court date next week with the guy who hit me and ran. x.x I called the cops 20 mins before he did and had to have my car towed, since he hit my passenger door and wheel well, crushing them in. Injuries and all that. I pretty much lost everything- the car, three jobs, DH lost his job a week later, got another job, and was laid off because they found out he came by bus, so no money for things like rent, groceries, etc. ... and this guy... is taking me to court... contesting the measly right-of-way violation ticket he got.

So I have no idea what I'm in for. I've never been to court. I've never been in an accident. And going up against a guy who's apparently very rich in a room with other people who are likely very rich and influential when I am not is giving me this anxiety thing where they might think that I did this and not him just to get money or something. But actually, I was getting by just fine before he hit my car.

wat do o.x

DH lost his job a week later, got another job, and was laid off because they found out he came by bus

....why do they care how someone gets to their job as long as they get there and do their work properly???

sorry to hear about this...i hope his case is thrown out. HE hit and ran, not you. and how can he sue you for the ticket? the cops wrote it, you didn't.

To be on the complete opposite end of everyone else so far...I have watched about 30 hours of the Olympics so far (the down side being I've had so much time because I've been getting hours cut at work)...and I am super excited that curling starts tonight and USA/Canada play women's hockey on Wednesday morning.

In other "Alice loves hockey" news, here's John Carlson's plane-trip-to-Russia food :)

peace_piper 12th-Feb-2014 02:06 am (UTC)
I've actually been enjoying the Olympics and I usually hate them with a passion. My parents pirated the French coverage and I've ben going over to watch it and the commentary doesn't get on my nerves cause we don't know what's going on and they're focusing so much on the sports.
wrestlingdog 10th-Feb-2014 03:44 am (UTC)
I've only watched the opening ceremonies of these Olympics. Made me really miss my late grandfather, who was super Russian. Another time of year I wish I had a TV, but I should look into possible streaming options (because that's how I watch pretty much anything).

Are there any big events I should pay attention to in these Olympics, _p?

My mom is coming to visit me for Valentine's Day. She's weirdly psyched about taking the BoltBus up here. She got a sweet hotel room, so it'll be nice to kick back somewhere not-my-apartment.

PS: do any of you guys watch Bomb Girls? I've rediscovered it and I'm totally in love.

I have tickets to a Welcome to Night Vale live show next month and am SO EXCITED OMG. \o/

I wanted to go when they were in Vegas, but at the time I had no money (I REALLY wish they would have been here after tax refunds)

I hope it's super fun!

Slowly but surely working on book.

In other news, I'm loving the fuck out of the last few episode of season 4 of MLP:FiM. And Pinkie Pride, holy shit y'all, PINKIE. PRIDE.

Also also also I love these two as Vinyl Scratch and Neon Lights and want them to voice the official voices in the show, especially Vinyl. HER VOICE IS PERFECT.
seishin 10th-Feb-2014 04:26 am (UTC)
Pinkie Pride was fantastic.

I'm taking the NCLEX-RN (state board exam) for my nursing license tomorrow at noon. Any good thoughts, etc. are greatly appreciated...I am horribly nervous. I have a job lined up but it's on condition that I pass boards the first time around. It is absolutely critical that I pass this damned test.
ebay313 10th-Feb-2014 05:02 am (UTC)
good luck! I'm sure you'll do great!
