unrulybadger 29th-May-2009 10:56 pm (UTC)
Man, what a douche. You could tell that woman was pretty much "AW HELL NO." Loved it.

Unfortunately all this publicity will only serve to further 'legitimize' this joke of a group.
fushiforever 29th-May-2009 11:01 pm (UTC)
I love her facial expression and how she was able to make him sound like a douche so easily. I wonder if any of the guys in that group have a girlfriend. I doubt it.

misatojaganshi 29th-May-2009 11:07 pm (UTC)

There are cancer support groups for all types of cancer.

Also if he is worried about men losing out on health issues or something, he should support universal health care.

Additionally, higher rates of male suicide, etc., are the flipside of patriarchy, where men are lampooned, ridiculed, for expressing "feminine" feelings. Many men would rather suck it up than go to a doctor for depression. There is a good list that circulated awhile back that shows how men lose out from patriarchy as well, and a lot of that comes from not being able to get in touch with or express stereotypically feminine feelings or behave in stereotypically feminine ways.
misatojaganshi 29th-May-2009 11:16 pm (UTC)
ia! i think we need to stop curtailing HUMAN emotions into gender stereotypes! its destructive for both genders and i hate the implication that men displaying "feminine" qualities is seen a sign of weakness D: instead of just being a goddamn human being who gets stressed, depressed, sad, etc D:
popehippo 29th-May-2009 11:15 pm (UTC)
This started over a satirical letter?

*dies* XD

Wait, when did prostrate cancer come into this?
misatojaganshi 29th-May-2009 11:18 pm (UTC)
idk he seemed to be grasping for straws in order to make the group look better and not woman hating/white men lamenting encroachment on their privilege
pichipai 29th-May-2009 11:18 pm (UTC)
...sigh. ~_~

I can't even muster the indignant anger I know I should be feeling, only irritation and exasperation. :\

Have they realized yet that women aren't being fired as often because women are being paid less and therefore the company will fire the men who are getting paid more? No, I guess not.
misatojaganshi 29th-May-2009 11:27 pm (UTC)
stop with your logic and stuff! gosh :x men are being put out of power ok!
sunoftheskye 29th-May-2009 11:28 pm (UTC)

wilde_isonmine 29th-May-2009 11:31 pm (UTC)
The idea of "male oppression" comes up in so many of my classes (I'm a gender studies major.) There really tends to be this sense of entitlement, and as subaltern groups slowly become more powerful (though I think it's ridiculous to say that the "sexes" are equal, or that the "races" are equal, etc. We do not live in a post-feminist or post-racist world. Inequalities still run rampant), straight white middle-class men feel like they're being "oppressed" simply because they now have to work for things that normally would have been automatically bestowed on them because of their sex/race/class.

On another note, I read an article once that said that, according to a few surveys, the biggest of fear women have tends to be rape/murder. Of men? Being laughed at.

hey_its_michael 29th-May-2009 11:35 pm (UTC)

Concerned about Prostate Cancer, then form a specific support group. Concerned about Testicular Cancer, then form a support group.

But advocating for men in general...I am at a loss as to what it is these guys are advocating for.

I agree with others sentiments that this is more of an emotional reaction that these men are having because they are no longer the center of the universe like they would have been just ten or so years ago.

It's like the worse class presentation ever. He gets an D for stuttering, botching your information, and general douchebaggery. He sounds 17. UGH.

She ate him up and spit him out. DAY-UM.

The victimhood majority also known as feminism is being threatened

celtic_thistle 30th-May-2009 12:20 am (UTC)
Ugh, any time they try to use "victim" as a pejorative it just makes them look like the dick-swinging bunch of chauvinists they are.

Hey who is that qt kid?
celtic_thistle 30th-May-2009 12:19 am (UTC)
Seriously, at this point, I am so tired of privileged straight white rich Christian men whining over "oppression" that I kinda want to shoot this guy into the sun.
jessalae 30th-May-2009 12:30 am (UTC)
The thing about Fortune 500 CEOs really rubbed me the wrong way. YOU GUYS HAVE 97% OF THE POSITIONS CURRENTLY. I can't see that the male sex will be disadvantaged in any way if that figure gets whittled down a bit, or even a lot. Things will change, sure, but I don't see how that will really hurt anyone. It's like he's saying "Well, men have always been CEOs of successful companies, therefore it's our birthright and those well-educated, successful women who may eventually end up replacing male CEOs are STEALING those jobs that rightfully belong to us!"
whosmurry 30th-May-2009 12:33 am (UTC)
Hahaha... Tamryn did not approve of his shenanigans.

There's a difference between being a graduate student and being in the Fortune 500. Quite a big difference.

Y'know, I get this bloke's point to a degree, and don't object to men forming their own groups or whatever, but he executes the idea with a lot of possible misogyny. I just get the feeling that most of the atendees would be the types scared and threatened by feminism, not interested in male social issues.

(Also, one comment over on YouTube says that universities need to do 'male studies'. I won't even begin on that topic.)
