The Colorado Independent’s Ernest Luning passes along this rather remarkable quote from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), speaking earlier today at an event in Colorado.

“This cannot pass. What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn’t pass.”

She’s talking about health care reform.

Bachmann was speaking at a fundraiser, described as a “personal legislative briefing,” for the Colorado-based Independence Institute, which describes itself as a “free-market think tank.” In a fiery speech that had the audience cheering, Bachmann railed against the dangers of health care reform and other Democratic initiatives, saying the proposals “have the strength to destroy this country forever.”

My problem is not that she is against it so much as she does not offer an alternative reform plan, and instead lives in a fantasy world where she pretends that our present health care system is perfect.

The only alternative I've heard is the small ass subsidy check to help lower income people buy health care. Too bad, the insurance companies can still charge whatever they want to make billions in profit. No one should be profiting of of sick people. The GOP refuses to address that issue though because they are all in the pockets of Big Insurance/Big Pharma.
