Doing It Wrong: Tasering a 10 yr girl to drag her into your patrol car
7:57 pm - 11/18/2009
Please tag this: police, children,
There are many upstanding police officers, usually unsung heroes, that go above and beyond their call of duty (for example, the vice squad in Toronto who help trafficked women beyond taking evidence)...the ones that treat children with gentleness and serve as good examples.
...and then there THIS GUY:
Fail cop Dustin Bradshaw of Ozark, Arkansas, made the judgment call of using a taser to subdue a 10 yr old in her own home. The mother had actually requested this, because the girl wouldn't take a shower...but as the authority figure, he should havetaser the mother spoke to the lady about why this is deeply deeply wrong, and ask the girl if there are other guardians she'll like to phone.
Taser gun used on 10-year-old girl who 'refused to take shower'
The girl's father, Anthony Medlock, who is divorced from her mother, said the girl showed signs of emotional problems but did not deserve to be "treated like an animal".
He said: "Ten years old and they shot electricity through her body, and I want to know how the heck in God's green earth can they get away with this.
If there is any sanity left in society, the girl's father or someone related to the girl who is competent and caring, should get the custody before the mother sells her for drugs.
I also don't care where she kicked him, she's 10yr old, if a police officer was actually endangered by a 10yr old enough to use a taser, I don't think he's fit to guard a pebble. I'm a civilian woman and I've manage to carry a hysterical 11 yr old under one arm when he's been fighting with his sis, absolutely no damage to him, or me. Sneak an arm around their waist and lift. I bet he probably did it because he was angry, which makes him again, unfit as an officer and a human being, because she was a CHILD, you control your temper when it's a child.
The kid could have had a heart attack, and now she'll have trouble trusting our society's authority figure, which is going to be doubly bad if her mom was abusing her outside of this.

I think snail mail will probably be taken more seriously. Avoid threats and curses if you are using a real address, keeping in mind that real addresses and diplomatically worded letters might accomplish more. (Though the realisation that the town's current mood is pitchforks and torches have their effect...)

Talk about a horrible mother and a rotten cop...
I also don't care where she kicked him, she's 10yr old, if a police officer was actually endangered by a 10yr old enough to use a taser, I don't think he's fit to guard a pebble. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.
What the fuck
Please take that child away from that mother ASAP.
WTF DUMBASS POLICEMAN
He needs to be fired. There is no way, at any point, this was "appropriate force" or any other such bullshit terms they've been using to excuse incidents like this. You basically electrocuted a pre-teen minor for kicking you. You should be fired, immediately.
I can't do that. Granted, that's because I am the same size as an 11 year old (though I weigh more), but there are other ways. Tasering is not one of them.
Like dude, I'm not THAT strong, and I'm kinda short (but taller than the 11yr year old, though he's catching up). The key is, if you are strong enough to lift him, off the ground, he has no leverage to break out of your hold, and if you get him by the waist at your side, he really can't kick or punch at ya! Then they get tire and you put them down and give them some alone time. (Do NOT do this if you are near a wall or anything the kid can bang their head into, NEVER dangle them forward in case you drop them. NEVER Dangle them by their head or limbs.)
Like dude, the best thing is always talking to them, unlike they are fighting and you need to separate them, I have no clue why the officer even approached the girl since no one was endangered, when the woman tell the him to take the girl away, did he ask what for? Other guardians?
A lot of the FAIL Authority incidents involving kids, happens when authority has the patience of four year old, if a kid is throwing a temper, you make sure they don't hurt other kids and they don't run off where you can't track them, but yanno, you can actually BACK OFF for a moment, kids aren't demons, they get TIRED. I remember that little black girl who was handcuffed in class... Heck, this goes for stationary crazy people too. If they are throwing things, send the kids to another class.
Rightttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
but nvm
That is, of course, fucking ridiculous though
...I just, needed a counter point, because, even with incidences like this, and Fort Hood, and the mom who might have sold her kid for drugs...I need to remember that it ain't all bad.
Although trust me, I am aware of the residential schools in Canada
If your thought was, "Well, it's not Canada, whew, we're free", my point is, bad things happen everywhere, and thinking It Can't Happen At Home doesn't help.
Good for you, I took Canadian History, but I didn't know about that, until it came up in the news. If it was mention in class, it probably amounted to a few obscure lines.
What the fuck, tasering a kid. She had a tantrum! Big deal! Ignore her until she calms down and then ground her. That mom shouldn't be a parent, but that officer was put into a position of power. He damn well should have known better.
That poor kid.
One, who calls the cops because your child doesn't want to take a shower? And two, WHY ARE DID HE TASER A CHILD?
Also:
The local Police Chief Jim Noggle said no disciplinary action was taken against Bradshaw.
"We didn't use the Taser to punish the child, just to bring the child under control so she wouldn't hurt herself or somebody else," he said.

And also, NO, NO, GODDAMN IT, YOU DO NOT TASE A CHILD. I don't care what that child is doing.
And if a grown-ass man can not handle a ten-year-old child and feels he is endangered enough to need to use a taser, you should not be a police officer. And if you think it's OK to tase a ten-year-old child because they are defying you...you should not be a police officer.
AAAAAAAARGH.
I hope that the father gets custody.
Hey, where is
With the "guards" AKA "police" two things can go wrong that make things like this happen. A person making a bad cop manages to get a job as a police officer while being seen as legally sane/emotionally balanced. Or two because cops repeatedly see the worst of human nature some of them, maybe a lot of them eventually go crazy and do shocking things like this. Am I bothered by this story? Mildly depressed but I'm really no longer surprised anymore.
