Hamas prevents humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza

6:44 pm - 06/07/2010
The bulk of the humanitarian aid from the Turkish flotilla that has been confiscated by Israel has been released and is awaiting delivery to Gaza, however Hamas prevents the goods from being delivered according to Der Spiegel.

"The aid shipment that the Palestinian activists' flotilla was hoping to bring to Gaza before they were halted by Israeli commandos is now awaiting delivery. But Hamas will only let the badly needed goods into the territory under certain conditions. "

When and if Hamas eventually lets the goods in, it is unlikely that they will reach these in need. Most probably that the aid will be distributed among Hamas supporters.

"Hamas supporters get prefabricated housing, furnishings and paid work. We get nothing"

So, basically, you're justifying Israel's actions by going

BUT MOM, THEY DID IT TOO!!

right?
celtic_thistle 7th-Jun-2010 04:56 pm (UTC)
Pretty much. The OP kinda delights in being deliberately obtuse about these things.

I'm confused. I'm not trying to justify Israel here, but why is it wrong to post when Hamas does something bad?
minilovely 7th-Jun-2010 05:10 pm (UTC)
It's because of this particular poster's history. If it was anyone else posting this article, my reaction would be totally different. Sort of like how I would react differently if someone other than kingsuperman posted an article about gay Palestinians.

Context matters, etc.
jiaren_shadow 7th-Jun-2010 05:11 pm (UTC)
It's not. I guess some might think it is; I know I don't. I think it just shows yet another party in the collective fucking-over of ordinary Palestinians.
gruimed 7th-Jun-2010 05:14 pm (UTC)
It simply shows that people see whatever they want to see. Actual facts do not matter.

LMAO. You troll well.

Mine involves 'smug' and a couple more colorful descriptors. How about yours, bb?
celtic_thistle 7th-Jun-2010 09:07 pm (UTC)
Why, mine also includes "smug" and hearkens back to a line from Requiem for a Dream! Great minds, etc.
homasse 7th-Jun-2010 10:30 pm (UTC)
LOL, so true.
fishphile 7th-Jun-2010 05:17 pm (UTC)
There's absolutely nothing wrong with. However, the OP refuses to acknowledge when Israel fucks up too (in post after post of the flotilla mess, he constantly came in to argue that everyone was wrong because people thought Israel not only overreacted but killed innocent people). His goal is to go "Look at those evil people Hamas! This is why Israel does what it does (did)." which is just bullshit.

Both parties are in the wrong and the people of Gaza are slammed into the middle.
minilovely 7th-Jun-2010 05:20 pm (UTC)
Exactly. He's co-opting legitimate issues so he can be ~right~, not because he actually gives a shit about Palestinians.
lied_ohne_worte 7th-Jun-2010 07:55 pm (UTC)
What the others said. Also, the OP quoted only those bits of the article that fitted his narrative.
thebigbadbutch 7th-Jun-2010 05:11 pm (UTC)
Yup, and anyone who suggests that Israel is in the wrong as well is pro-terrorism.
lied_ohne_worte 7th-Jun-2010 06:08 pm (UTC)
And by quoting only the part of the article that is critical of Hamas, but leaving out paragraphs like

The United Nations (UN) has called the Israeli blockade of goods and people a form of "collective punishment." According to UN estimates, around 80 percent of the 1.5 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip are living under the poverty line, and 42 percent are unemployed as the economy has virtually ground to a halt. On Thursday, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, again called for an end to the blockade.

And not even a [...] to show that he's snipped things out! Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say he was trying to be misleading. But surely a pro-Israel internet hero wouldn't have to resort to those kinds of tactics, since Israel is so clearly in the right...right?
