Britain's Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall react as their car is attacked, in London, Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010. Angry protesters in London attacked the car containing Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. An Associated Press photographer saw demonstrators kick the car in Regent Street, in the heart of London's shopping district. The car then sped off. Charles' office, Clarence House, confirmed that "their royal highnesses' car was attacked by protesters on the way to their engagement at the London Palladium this evening, but their royal highnesses are unharmed."
A broken window and splattered paint are pictured on a car used to transport Britain's Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall to the London Palladium in London, on December 9, 2010, after it was attacked by protesters during a student demonstration.
Yeah, a bunch of angry young people who've just had their futures surgically removed by the establishment are then confronted by the living embodiment of inherited privilege. Frankly they're fucking lucky this isn't France.
...hang on I'm trying to find my Give-A-Shit-O-Meter but it's buried under a big heaping pile of rich privilege being offended and blocking out real news stories.
Oh there it is...nope still don't give either a fuck, damn or a shit about them.
Yeah, finding it hard to give a damn when people I know will be paying £9000 a year in tuition fees and my own degree will suffer cuts in funding as I'm doing a social science.
I automatically convert it to Canadian money and that's $18,000 a year. Fuuucckkkk. You may as well just come to Canada and pay international fees. I bet a lot of future students are going to be jumping ship. Especially since UK students can pay home/EU fees at European universities, a lot of which teach in English.
Thank you! I understand being frustrated with the monarchy and the fact that news attention is being diverted from the real story, but broken glass can seriously injure people and is no trivial matter.
I'm glad no one was hurt but I mean srsly, srsly, the royals are lucky they're not getting the treatment that some of their predecessors did, you know? >_>;
I'm glad nobody was hurt, but could you imagine the firestorm if that might have been used against the students if somebody HAD gotten hurt? Or if it was William and Harry in that car?
Totally agree. Given that the protocol when there are demos on is to redirect the Royal Car, WTF were they doing going through it? It's premeditated bullshit.
Such a tragedy. Ta for reminding me of my buried republican feelings, Charles.
I'm still utterly horrified and yet not surprised that this is headline news, whilst a student was in hospital being treated for bleeding to the brain. Shameful.
OMG she got poked in the ribs and some people were 'violent' to a statue. Meanwhile, in a display of reasonable force, the police beat a boy so badly he needs a three hour operation to stop bleeding on his brain.
Of course, the real outrage is that one man by dint of birth is driven around in a vintage Rolls Royce, while another can scarcely afford to eat. I can't think of any time in the last 100 years where the royals have had to confront genuine, popular anger.
And it's all over the news, of course, while I'm still intermittently oozing blood, watching deep purple bruises emerge, and unable to move three fingers properly. No justice, no peace....
It still makes me so angry that the news got hijacked for this. WORLDS SMALLEST VIOLIN LET ME FUCKING
RAM IT UP YOUR ARSESHOW IT TO YOU.m

Throw as much paint and shit as you want, though. They can deal. Everyone likes an excuse for the carwash anyway.

That happened to prevent THIS from being the headline story. I firmly believe they were driven there on purpose to distract the news. And it worked.
