Fox's Camerota Promotes Phony War On Christmas: "Are Christians The Only Ones Being Forced To Be Tolerant?"

December 04, 2011 3:43 pm ET

From the December 4 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends Sunday:

Transcript: "You can't call a Christmas tree a 'Christmas tree' in Rhode Island, as you probably have heard by now. In Texas Santa can't come in to the classroom. So what's going on with the War on Christmas? Are Christians the only ones being forced to be tolerant? Father John has some thoughts on this next. But you can't take away Christmas from this house. One family is showing off their Christmas spirit well with this amazing display of lights."

People talk about the War on Christmas, but they weren't there. They didn't see the snow run red with the blood of my brothers in arms during the Candy Cane Offensive. They will never truly know the horrors of the Sugarplum Holocaust.

I left for the North Pole as an elf. I came back as a monster.

Some good will come from me being stuck in a hotel breakfast room while this was playing. They cited Rhode Island's "Holiday Tree" and a school in Texas that is not allowing Santa into the classroom. One of them stated that even his atheist bus driver loves Santa. "Everyone loves Santa" is what I think he said. Of course no mention was made of Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. that would see letting Santa in as an endorsement of Christianity, and one atheist bus driver speaks for us all. Direct quote: "Why are Christians the only ones being forced to be tolerant?" Overall the same garbage. I'm proud I didn't go "Hulk Smash" on that Holiday Inn.

"Are Christians the only ones being forced to be tolerant?"

yes, because in the history of the religions of the world, no one has ever had to put up with Christian bullshit before.

I have a question ... about Occupying the ports to have them shut down - what is the reasoning / purpose / benefit of that? I genuinely curious...this isn't a snarky Q
vanillakokakola Re: OT5th-Dec-2011 07:12 am (UTC)
I believe it's to show that even though we 99% can't control politics via money like lobbyists, they still wield power that can have a large effect (in this case, on the economy, specifically imports/exports)

Fox News, just stop. Please, just stop.

Where I work, we put out Christmas candy and goodies the week after Halloween was over. A week before Thanksgiving, we put up Christmas decoration and every third or fourth song played on the intercom was a Christmas song. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's Christmas songs 24/7. We have two Christmas trees in our store. Outside there's a Salvation Army bell ringer shaking his or her bell nonstop to collect donations, we have two donation Christmas toy bins, and my store even sells food to help a local church raise funds to give homeless people Christmas dinner after they listen to a sermon. Some of the employees wear Santa hats or Christmas pins. In the street parking lots you will see giant shiny lamp post decorations in shapes of candy canes or Christmas stockings. Last year a customer was handing out Christmas cards to everyone, then you opened it up and realize it was an advertisement for a church. There are Christmas tree lots every five blocks. Every other house in decked out in Christmas lights. Shit, you just showed a person with an obnoxious amount of Christmas lights. And speaking of lights, in one of the neighborhoods by my work you can see a gigantic electric Christmas star hooked up on a giant pole that can literally be seen miles away.

There is too much Christmas. Seriously, take your butt hurt and go home. /bitter

How about the war that family is waging against great rock and roll by playing Baba O'Riley with the words to Do You Hear What I Hear played dubbed in? Keith Moon's gonna rise from the dead and drive a Lincoln Continental into your home for that crappy Baby Jesus Peace and Love Christian co-opted Hippie shit.

"Fox's Camerota Promotes Phony War On Christmas: "Are Christians The Only Ones Being Forced To Be Tolerant?"

Yeah, I think everybody remembers how the lamestream media and big government was forcing Ramadan down our throats, then you have Passover being made a National Holiday, and don't get me started on the amount of attention Hindu and Buddhist holy days have been getting...

oh wait, except that never happened. You know, it's hard to complain about why other religions aren't being 'forced to be tolerant' when the society you endorse, doesn't pay them any attention.

I would love it if somebody told these people exactly from where the early Christians got the tradition of the "Christmas" tree.
theartema 5th-Dec-2011 08:45 am (UTC)
As a Christian, I wish SO FUCKING HARD that Christmas wasn't used as a marketing tool by corporations. BUY BUY BUY EVERYTHING YOU'RE A SHITTY CHRISTIAN IF YOU DON'T BUY FIFTY IPODS FOR YOUR KIDS AND A BIG SCREEN TV LALALALA HO HO HO BABY JESUS WAS TOTALLY BORN IN A WAL-MART SUPER CENTER COME WORSHIP AT OUR ALTAR OF CAPITALISM MERRY CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Fuck this noise. I'm so sick of it.
lady_deirdre 5th-Dec-2011 09:01 am (UTC)
Yeah, I can understand how the rampant commercialisation is actually a bigger threat to what Christmas is supposed to be than "oh my gosh Santa can't enter a classroom in that one place I've never been!"
rinygrin 5th-Dec-2011 09:03 am (UTC)
People keep venting on about the ~*honest*~ and ~*true*~ tradition of saying, "Merry Christmas" as if everyone will forget the connection to Jesus Christ's birth, totally going to happen over night if we don't blast Bing Crosby records 24/7. What about how everyone else celebrates December or those who don't believe the bb Jesus was born in the winter months? They constantly want to be validated for being self-centered and not want to ever make someone else feel welcomed or respected. The whole idea that you have to also be religious to celebrate Christmas is lol if they're talking about keeping the "tradition" alive. I was brought up secular and given the choice to pick my own faith (my mom is spiritual and my dad is an atheist) and it's never ruined my holiday season.
ragnor144 5th-Dec-2011 11:27 am (UTC)
I am taking it that he is the priest that appeared. I was stuck in a hotel breakfast area that was playing this and was having a hard time not smashing things. He actually seemed OKish. What stuck with me was that he advocated asking what holiday people were celebrating when they said "Happy Holidays" in a nice way. He understood that there are other holidays than Christmas that occur this time of year.
shoujokakumei 5th-Dec-2011 11:33 am (UTC)
Some of my co-workers posted this stupid Facebook meme about how saying "Happy Holidays" removes the meaning of Christmas.

I've made sure to wish those people a Happy Holidays every time I've seen them.
muppetfromhell 5th-Dec-2011 11:36 am (UTC)
you should reply: also of Channukah. Happy Channukah, assholes!
muppetfromhell 5th-Dec-2011 11:35 am (UTC)
I like my mom's reaction. If you say Happy Holidays to someone and they get pissy, you can always reply: well at least I didn't say what I was really thinking, which is Go Fuck Yourself!
nothingmuch 5th-Dec-2011 01:30 pm (UTC)
hahahahahahahaha A+++++
mad_with_july 5th-Dec-2011 02:52 pm (UTC)
You know, as someone who worked retail during the "holiday" season, the store clerk doesn't really want you to have a Merry Christmas. Or a Happy Holiday. She wants you to get your shit and go home so she can maybe get home herself in time for a piece of fucking figgy pudding with her own damn family after being on her feet 18 hours that day dealing with screaming entitled assholes who want everything RIGHT NOW HERE TODAY NOW DAMMIT, and she does not give a flying fuck about the reason for the season.

God, when I was working that job I was homicidal by Christmas Eve and every single thing I said to customers was totally insincere, "Merry Christmas" included.

A.
redstar826 5th-Dec-2011 03:12 pm (UTC)
lol so true. this came up elsewhere and I said something along the lines of "just be happy that the clerk is wishing you a happy anything because she is probably actually thinking 'go fuck yourself'"

Never have I been so happy to collect my unemployment checks and lay low, because holiday retail work is its own level of hell
atomic_joe2 5th-Dec-2011 02:56 pm (UTC)
Fox News seems ever so slightly obsessed with war. Why can't they have a War on War so we can have peace?
iamglory 5th-Dec-2011 04:24 pm (UTC)
They have based their network on war since 2001 and it gave them great ratings...they need to make up for wars to keep said ratings. Because really....they wouldn't have much to discuss.
maladaptive 5th-Dec-2011 03:25 pm (UTC)
Who can't call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree in RI? I can do it. I bet you can, too.

Oh, wait, they meant the government can't put up a Christmas tree on government property, right?
iamglory 5th-Dec-2011 04:24 pm (UTC)
Yeah
wikilobbying 5th-Dec-2011 03:44 pm (UTC)
Are Christians the only ones being forced to be tolerant?

are christians the only ones who celebrate christmas? no. and where i live, i saw christmas decorations and candy going up before halloween so get out with this war on christmas crap.
ahzuri 5th-Dec-2011 04:36 pm (UTC)
I think they should probably start considering the wars on Halloween and Thanksgiving with how early all the Christmas shit goes up.
maynardsong 5th-Dec-2011 04:27 pm (UTC)
Someone saying "happy holidays" instead of "merry Christmas" does not undermine the meaning of Christmas. But I'd say rampant consumerism of stuff made by people working under rather oppressive conditions does.
tinyrevolution 5th-Dec-2011 07:44 pm (UTC)
1) I actually hate "happy holidays" and "holiday tree" and "tree of lights", just say Christmas if you mean it. It's all false tokenisation and an excuse to give govt endorsement - would you want Santa in schools if they called him "generic holiday man"?

2) Note how they phrased "Santa isn't allowed in schools" - they neither confirm nor deny his existence. In case the brainwashed kids are watching. Classic.

3) The Santa myth is evil and should die forever.

4) Take your dogwhistles and pine needles and nonsense and shove them up your candy cane ass.
