Gen Silent, LGBT aging documentary, streaming free

4:30 pm - 12/31/2011
Today’s LGBT seniors grew up under harsh oppression in the years before Stonewall. Many are estranged from their families and must rely on paid caregivers for assistance with mobility, healthcare, or basic life needs. But what if the only helpers available are intolerant, discriminatory, or abusive? Would you go back in the closet if it were necessary to survive? This moving documentary illustrates these issues through the heartrending stories of our community’s elders and the small but dedicated group of professionals working to provide them with compassionate, supportive care.
Run time: 62 min.

thanks for sharing this. My mother works as a caregiver for the elderly, and has had a couple of openly gay individuals in the program she works for (it's basically an 'adult day care' program where elderly people who can't be left alone go for the day so their loved ones can go to work or even just get a break), so I know she will be interested in this.

Goddamn how I wanted to strangle that woman's lousy son.

This was really painful to watch.

Seeing the venom written on those envelopes was scarring, I agree. I found this very hopeful overall but you do witness real pain in this.

KrysAnne's family are appalling. The crap they scrawled on those envelopes... Her son being a complete jackass... That part of her story made me really angry.

Just your description alone make me not want to watch because it's probably going to be awful and heartbreaking and make me rage and want to hit people.

Arrgh.

The boomers are getting a lot of work done. Before them, I never even heard of the issue. So things are improving!
