Happy 48th birthday, Michelle Obama! While the first lady has been known to rock everything from dramatic, fashion-forward Jason Wu gowns to Narciso Rodriguez silk ensembles, she's also a fan of affordable fashion. In recent years, she's donned bright J. Crew sweaters, colorful H&M dresses and trendy Asos.com printed shirts. (We approve.)

I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't find something that discusses Mrs. Obama as more than a fashion icon. Nonetheless, I was hoping we could use this post to send the First Lady some birthday wishes. (The only 'card' for her I could find was from the Obama-Biden campaign site, and that would put you on their email list). I shamelessly admit that I adore Michelle Obama. Happy birthday FLOTUS, you rock!

THANK YOU. Literally less than 5 minutes ago I responded to a comment in an sf_d post that said that Michelle Obama is "very rarely nicely dressed."

Whatever, check out this styling classy lady! Damn she's rocking that blue dress.

Also, she's incredibly intelligent and can crush you if you look at her wrong.

IDEK. And like rex_dart said above, she looks great while wearing clothes that are accessible for ordinary women. Like, I can't afford Prada or Versace, but I can afford J. Crew (uh, when it's on sale, anyway - I'm wearing a top and cardigan that I got from J. Crew's sale section right now). Michelle Obama is definitely a style icon for me, anyway.

I think of her as a fashion icon in that she's an extremely famous woman in the public eye who's often seen out looking fabulous in much more accessible, affordable clothing than your average movie star or musician.

1) she's drop-dead gorgeous all the damn time
2) she could probably snap me in half over her knee
