you may want to see my reply to another below. but to summarize, i've had some slight issues with cramps and cervix pain, and my periods have morphed into long segments of light spotting.
the insertion went fine. and i haven't noted any hormonal side effects. it's a very small localized dose of hormones down there. i really like it so far (9 months in), and just feeling more free improved my sex life a LOT.
although if you are looking for a completely hormone-free option you might want to look into paragard. i haven't tried it tho.
