PHOTO ESSAY: Political Animals: Taming Campaign Creature11:51 am - 03/23/2012
President Franklin D. Roosevelt's pet Scottish Terrier 'Fala' sits beside an open book in front of a portrait of the president, 1940s. FDR's beloved dog played a role in the 1944 election when Republicans accused the President of accidentally leaving the scottish terrier behind on a trip to the Aleutian Islands. Critics charged that a Naval destroyer had been sent to rescue Fala, at great expense. Roosevelt responded to the charges in a speech saying "These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala. Well, of course, I don't resent attacks, and my family don't resent attacks -- but Fala does resent them."
Photo essay also includes Romney on a horse, Newt with a boa constrictor, Joe Biden with a camel, Putin looking like a supervillian with Bush's dog, and of course, Bo Obama
