FRANKSVILLE, Wis. — On the eve of the U.S. Supreme Court’s debate over the constitutionality of President Barack Obama’s health-care law, Rick Santorum declared that Mitt Romney’s support for a similar law in Massachusetts made him “the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.”
But when pressed by reporters about the sharp statement, Santorum grew agitated, saying that his comments regarding Romney were confined to the issue of health care. The former Pennsylvania senator has said if he fails to win his party’s nomination, he will support whoever does.
“Quit distorting my words. It’s bull——,” Santorum told a New York Times reporter who pressed the question.
Santorum, who cites the federal health-care law as his primary reason for entering the presidential race, often says Romney is “uniquely disqualified” to be the party’s nominee because of the state health-care law he championed.
In response to repeated questions on the matter, Santorum told reporters that Romney was an unfit Republican nominee because of his work on health care as former Massachusetts governor.
“On the issue of health care. That’s what I said. I didn’t say anything different than that. That’s exactly what I said,” Santorum said. “On the issue of health care. That’s what I was talking about, and I was very clear about talking about that. Okay? C’mon guys, don’t do this. I mean you guys are incredible. I was talking about Obamacare, and he is the worst because he was the author of Romneycare.”
Looking on, a Romney spokesman — who traveled to all of Santorum’s public events today — dismissed the attack as a desperate ploy.
“What we saw today was an epic temper tantrum from an desperate and flailing candidate. Rick Santorum understands that conservatives are rapidly coalescing around Mitt Romney and that he has virtually no path to the nomination. As a result he’s panicking,” Romney spokesman Ryan Williams said.

He's an American conservative Christian; I don't think he's ever experienced a different mindset to compare it with.
This seems to the be default many Conservatives. I know it's what my dad responds with any time someone dare to bring up something that might cast his political views in a bad light.
