+NBC News confirms: George Zimmerman is in custody for charges related to the Trayvon Martin case. Prosecutor Angela Corey will make an announcement in Trayvon Martin case at 6 p.m. ET

Source at NBC News on G+, that's all I got right now.

I encourage everyone to post more detailed information and links as it becomes available. I'm about to be away from the internet for a few hours so I won't be able to add to this post myself.

edit: More detail here

I usually regret not having cable/MSNBC when there's a big story, but I'm actually kind of relieved right now. I haven't heard the 911 call yet and I don't think I could handle it.
evilgmbethy 11th-Apr-2012 10:00 pm (UTC)
MSNBC didn't play it, I think just CNN
rex_dart 11th-Apr-2012 10:02 pm (UTC)
At my parents' house we always flip back and forth between MSNBC and CNN during commercial breaks, so. My dad is parked in front of the news every night, so if I still lived with them I'm sure I would've heard it at some point already.

It really fucked me up, hearing it. I've actively avoided it so this was blind-siding. That poor baby.
rex_dart 11th-Apr-2012 10:05 pm (UTC)
I feel kind of guilty NOT listening, but I'm really afraid it'll give me a panic attack. It sounds so awful.
hammersxstrings 11th-Apr-2012 10:09 pm (UTC)
don't. it's really honestly sad. i didn't want to hear it again, but cnn didn't give a warning
executivehpfan 11th-Apr-2012 10:11 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend listening to it. I have a strong stomach and hearing it literally made me queasy.
angry_chick 11th-Apr-2012 10:25 pm (UTC)
I don't tend to cry or feel sick - I felt nauseous when I heard the 911 call.
kaze_to_isshoni 11th-Apr-2012 10:26 pm (UTC)
i heard it on npr weeks ago. don't listen :(
celtic_thistle 11th-Apr-2012 10:34 pm (UTC)
No, I refuse to listen too. Too much imo
homasse 11th-Apr-2012 10:58 pm (UTC)
I haven't listened to it and have no plans to listen to it. Descriptions have been more than enough; I do not want to actually hear a boy being killed.
lickbrains 12th-Apr-2012 01:26 am (UTC)
Yes, this.
romp 12th-Apr-2012 05:34 am (UTC)
exactly--I wouldn't want anyone to listen to my child in that situation
captain_emily 12th-Apr-2012 01:30 pm (UTC)
You make a very good point. I wonder if the people spreading this call even gave the parents a thought.
kaowolfie 12th-Apr-2012 04:36 pm (UTC)
No, they just thought "recording of someone dying? RATINGS!" They don't care about his family at all.

Sincerely,

Another person who is refusing to listen to that call.

I can't listen to it either. I think it was Don Lemon who played it and the other 911 calls one night. As soon as I heard Trayvon screaming, I had to mute it and wait. I just couldn't handle it. It was bad enough reading the transcript.
chaya 12th-Apr-2012 02:16 am (UTC)
Nobody should feel bad for not listening to this. It doesn't give you any special insight over others, it just... it's a scared boy yelling for help. It hurts to hear.
livinghope 12th-Apr-2012 05:01 am (UTC)
Don't do it. It's very haunting and absolutely heart breaking.
crystalra1ndr0p 12th-Apr-2012 07:26 am (UTC)
It really is horrible. I can hear it again in my mind just reading these comments.

Please try not to feel guilty. One of the witnesses sounded like she was having a panic attack in her 911 call herself and I felt so sad for her.
tabaqui 11th-Apr-2012 10:23 pm (UTC)
Same. I have no intentions whatsoever of listening to it. It just seems so...ghoulish. I'm glad it's there, and i hope that it helps to put Zimmerman in jail for a long time but...i just can't.

I heard part of it on NPR recently and it was horrible. I definitely never want to hear it again.
mirhanda 11th-Apr-2012 11:00 pm (UTC)
I agree. I have children and to think about hearing that from my child...I don't know how his parents can even function. My prayers go out to them.
omgangiepants 12th-Apr-2012 04:27 am (UTC)
I heard it on Randi Rhodes the day it was released while I was out driving for work and I had to pull over and cry. It's the worst thing I've ever heard.
