"Zimmerman Confronted Martin" Court Affidavit Released! (DETAILS)

12:23 pm - 04/12/2012
A probable cause affidavit has just been released and says that George Zimmerman "confronted" Trayvon Martin on the night of February 26th.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the affidavit for probable cause has been filed in the second-degree murder case. In the two-page document, prosecutors offer little new information about the shooting.

The affidavit said that "Zimmerman confronted Martin," an apparent contradiction of Zimmerman's version of the events that led to the shooting.

The document also says Trayvon's mother identified the screams for help heard in a 911 call as those of her son. It reveals that investigators interviewed Trayvon's girlfriend, who said she was on the phone with him leading up to the shooting.

As reported by the Sentinel:
Based on the description, it appears the friend was the girl described by Martin family attorneys as his girlfriend.

"During this time, Martin was on the phone with a friend and described to her what was happening," the affidavit said. "The witness advised that Martin was scared because he was being followed through the complex by an unknown male and didn't know why."

Martin tried to run home, the affidavit says, but was followed by Zimmerman. "Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and followed Martin."

The affidavit goes on to say that "Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher" who told him to stop, and "continued to follow Martin who was trying to return to his home."

Zimmerman, the affidavit says, "confronted Martin and a struggle ensued."

According to the affidavit: "Trayvon Martin's mother has reviewed the 911 calls and identified the voice crying for help as Trayvon Martin's. Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest."

Zimmerman appeared in court today in a blue jumpsuit and handcuffs. He was joined by his new attorney, Mark O'Mara. A first-appearance judge found probable cause for the murder charge.

The judge set Zimmerman's next court date for May 29 at 1:30 p.m. Zimmerman spoke only once during the hearing, responding "Yes, sir" to a question.

Trayvon Martin's girlfriend was on the phone with him before he died and she heard the entire thing happen. And then his mother had to listen to the recording. I can't.

Nothing was bolded because it's all important.

And all I keep seeing in this is: Trayvon Martin's mother has reviewed the 911 calls and identified the voice crying for help as Trayvon Martin's.

I just cannot even begin to imagine how awful that must have been for her. I haven't listened to them because *I* cannot handle them. Trying to imagine hearing my own child crying for help before being shot and killed...I just can't.

I can't even begin to imagine.

God, his poor mother. Having to hear her child...this is just so fucking sad.

George Zimmerman needs life without parole. Fuck him.

His girlfriend heard everything...

I just can't.
This case makes me sick and furious a lil' more everyday. I don't even know how his mother, his girlfriend, relatives... can deal with all this.
I just hope Martin's family get answer and justice.

My heart really goes out to the mother and the girlfriend. Zimmerman needs to be charged with the maximum sentence, not just because that's what he deserves, but because anything less sends the wrong message. Let him have his day in court, then lock the fucker away.
hammersxstrings 12th-Apr-2012 07:56 pm (UTC)
i know we've said it before, but that poor kid. he was so scared :( if anyone gets to use the Stand Your Ground law, and Trayvon did actually fight back, it's Trayvon.
ascendings 12th-Apr-2012 08:01 pm (UTC)
so basically zimmerman stalked him, and then when trayvon got scared because a man was following him for no reason and he started to run away, zimmerman probably thought that meant that he was up to no good and wanted to ~avoid trouble~ so he chased him.

fuck you asshole. rot in hell.

At least this clusterfuck seems to be heading in the right direction now.
sankaku_atama 12th-Apr-2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
Zimmerman should be locked away forever, and that stupid fucking Stand Your Ground law needs to be repealed.

All of the Floridians who voted for that POS law should be ashamed.
deathchibi 12th-Apr-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
It's even worse because self defense is -always- an option, but people should have to justify it when they use force.

Stand Your Ground is basically a legal excuse to murder someone. :/

his poor mother :(
aviv_b 12th-Apr-2012 09:01 pm (UTC)
I broke down watching the news conference last night. His mother - to lose a child in such a horrible way, and then to have to deal with her son being maligned by Zimmerman, his family and his racist supports.

She was so grateful for the arrest, for something to happen to recognize that her son's killer should be charged with a crime. And all I could think was how she shouldn't have to feel grateful, that she is entitled to justice for her son's death, because that's how things are supposed to work. But they don't do they?

If you are a young black man in the U.S. going to the store to buy a snack can end up with you being murdered. And many, many people will apparently think that's perfectly OK. And that's not OK.

The fact that she needs to be THANKFUL that her child's murderer was finally arrested...

not enough rage in the world

So basically

they're proving what we known this entire time. oh, and the mother had to hear her child's last moments.
moonshaz 13th-Apr-2012 05:50 am (UTC)
And you know she is going to have to hear that tape many more times before it's all over. Including while she is on the witness stand, when they play it in court and she has to testify that yes, that IS her fucking BABY screaming for help. *SOBS*

Zimmerman confronted Martin

You don't say? You don't say. You don't say!

I cannot believe this needs to be said.

The document also says Trayvon's mother identified the screams for help heard in a 911 call as those of her son.

Jesus fucking CHRIST I can't even with this. Just the thought of having to do that for any of my kids has me in tears at my desk.
jettakd 12th-Apr-2012 11:20 pm (UTC)
The thought of his girlfriend hearing him die, and then his mother having to hear him die in order to identify his voice....

:( No words to be honest.
ruby_chalice 12th-Apr-2012 11:39 pm (UTC)
Oh my god. That was heartbreaking.

Could someone explain the following fuckery to me because I'm having difficulty understanding?

"the affidavit for probable cause has been filed in the second-degree murder case"
tabaqui 13th-Apr-2012 01:03 am (UTC)
I think - and people talked about this in the last couple posts on this case - that they're filing second-degree murder because it will probably be impossible without an outright confession to prove that he had premeditated intent to kill Trayvon.

First degree means the person planned it, intended it, set out to do it; second degree means they weren't *planning* on it, but it happened due to their actions.

*please, ontd_p people more in the know, correct any mistakes i might have made*
anus 12th-Apr-2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
It was already known his girlfriend was on the phone with him, but I had no idea his mother listened to the call as well. I can't even imagine D:
cyranothe2nd 13th-Apr-2012 01:32 am (UTC)
Wait, he followed Trayvon in his car??? Every time I hear more details, I am just horrified afresh.

roseofjuly 13th-Apr-2012 02:27 am (UTC)
Yeah, he saw him walking down the street, followed him in the car. Then at some point he got out of the car, taking his gun with him. When Trayvon saw a strange man following him, he quickened his pace, and that's apparently when he decided to give chase and confront him.
