Bill would require doctor give morning after pill

5:38 pm - 04/19/2012
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Women seeking to take emergency contraception like the so-called "morning after" pill would have to do so in the presence of a doctor under a bill before the Alabama Legislature.

A Senate panel approved the measure on Wednesday, sending it before the full chamber. An earlier version would have required women to undergo an exam by a physician before taking the pill.

The proposal also requires a follow-up visit to determine whether the contraception was effective.

Republican sponsor Sen. Gerald Allen says the intent of the legislation is to protect life.

Democratic Sen. Linda Coleman brought up objections during the committee, saying sections of the bill had little to do with administering the pill.

Parts of the legislation deal with who can bring suit if the measure is violated.

Seriously. It's just a fucking pill, I'd rather that than an actually invasive procedure. The way they're doing things women will really have no choice but to have the damn children AS GOD AND MAN INTENDED.

It's not even an abortion pill at that. It's a contraceptive.

People don't seem to realize that contraception = prevents conception = nothing to be aborted. They class contraception and chemical abortifacients as the same thing. It's a consequence of that illogical personhood at fertilization concept. Which makes me think that's why that concept is being pushed so hard-- it would be a way to legally argue that HBC is abortion, even if it's a medical fallacy, and thus crack down on it in places where outright saying you want to ban HBC wouldn't fly but saying you want to ban abortion would.
