UKIP candidate suggested gays ‘stop complaining and start thanking straight people’

6:43 pm - 04/27/2012
A former UKIP parliamentary candidate and current Oxford City Council hopeful has said people who ‘choose’ to be gay should stop ‘complaining about persecution’ and start thanking straight people for giving birth to them.

Dr Julia Gasper was selected by UKIP to run for Parliament in 2010 in Oxford East and is now campaigning for election to the city council in next week’s elections, prompting a concerned resident to draw attention to her blog.

This month, UKIP overtook the Liberal Democrats in a national YouGov poll of voting intentions, though in more recent polls they have reverted to tying with the party.

In 2010, Dr Gasper said gay rights had “gone too far” and suggested homosexuality is a choice.

She also suggested a link between homosexuality and paedophilia should be examined when selecting gay couples to adopt a child.

She wrote: “Homosexuality (as Jean-Paul Sartre said) is simply a form of behaviour, not like being black at all. Black people could and did for thousands of years live independently on another continent, but homosexuals can only exist as a by-product of a heterosexual society.

“Homosexuals are completely dependent on heterosexuals to create them.

“Curiously they never express any gratitude for this, while complaining constantly of persecution.”

On adoption, she wrote: “It makes no sense to argue for the “equal rights” of a homosexual couple because nobody has a right to adopt. Adoption takes place in the interests of the child, not the adults [...]

“To talk about gays having a right to adopt is to treat the child like a form of merchandise. It is wholly unacceptable.”

Suggesting homosexuality is a choice, she continued: “If fairness is the issue, it seems fair to me to give a child to couples who have experienced biological sterility or repeated miscarriage, because they really can’t have a child of their own. Their need is greater than that of those who simply choose a same-sex partner.”

“Undoubtedly in my view, it is wrong to force any adoption society to go against its ethics. We ought to reflect that there is a strong connection between male homosexuality and paedophilia. Why hush it up?”

More recently, Dr Gasper has written on marriage equality for gay couples, which UKIP opposes.

When a schoolboy told her earlier this month that gays should not be barred from marriage as polygamy was accepted in Biblical times, Dr Gasper accused him of “corkscrew logic”.

Using the Old Testament story of Jacob’s polygynous marriage to two women, Rachel and Leah, with whose slave-girls he also had children, Dr Gasper wrote: “Both marriages were regarded as valid. Does this mean that marriage was polygamous? Not at all. Jacob’s marriage to Leah united two people, a man and a woman. His marriage to Rachel also united two people, a man and a woman. Rachel and Leah did not marry each other!!! [...]

“It is still strictly accurate to say that each marriage was the union of one man to one woman, for life.”

The City of Oxford will be voting for 24 of its city councillors on 3 May, with Dr Gasper contesting a relatively safe Labour ward.

PinkNews.co.uk was unable to reach Dr Gasper this afternoon to express gratitude.

[Here be sarcasm]

Ah, I see UKIP are sticking to those "libertarian values" they're so famous for.

But hey, they're third in the polls at the moment. At least it's better than those darned Lib Dems, with their equality. Good to give them a kicking, hey UK?

/sick of everything tbh

UKIP = a political party based entirely on ignorance about the benefits of the EU.

Yeah, I don't care much for their opinions.

(as Jean-Paul Sartre said)

Not enough eye-rolling in the world for someone who quotes Sartre in an argument about gay rights.

You know what's really a product of straight society? Homophobia. AND GUESS WHAT.

To hell with her. I'm too fabulous to be a product of straight society.

Homophobes, transphobes and similar bigots wouldn't exist without queer people.

They should be thanking us queer folk for their existence.

Checkmate, bigots.

I like the way you think. :D

Maybe all the black people living in not-Africa should be thanking all the white people for buying them up and shipping them off as slaves. They wouldn't be living in the (insert fabulous white first-world country) without us!

*gags*

a) even if it is a choice or non-genetic in origin, so what? Whether I was 'born this way' or otherwise, I'm still a human same as she is and deserve to be treated equally.

b) if we're going with what the evidence suggests is best for the child, then lesbian couples ought to be prioritised, yet somehow I don't think that's what she meant.

You know what? Fuck this shit. I want an actual study that has not been attacked for it's complete failure in logic for this nonsense. I am tired of hearing about a study decades ago with this insanity when people argue this point.

Seriously, just.. grrrrrrr.

Do you ever feel like you just reach a critical mass where you've failed and swore and capslocked so much that you reach an article like this and have just run out of 'fuck yous' and all you can do is sigh?
nyxelestia 27th-Apr-2012 07:26 pm (UTC)
I've already thanked my parents for creating me and raising me. They have claimed the price is unlimited cuddling access and to revel in turning their future grandchildren against me and called it even.

Now can I complain?

Wow. Wooooooow. What a hateful, loathsome person.

And you know, I never understood why these people think that pedophilia and homosexuality have a "connection." I also have no patience for these people. When I was a teenager I came out to my parents as a lesbian (I'm actually bisexual but I really thought I was a lesbian at the time), and my dad sat me down and told me that the next step is pedophilia. To say I was crushed is an understatement. I hated myself.

Life is kind of funny, though. My mother came out as a lesbian a little later (she actually is one) and divorced my father. One of her reasons for coming out is that she didn't want me to feel alone. :) LOVE YOU, MOM!!!

But yeah. Noooo patience for the "homophobia = pedophilia" argument. There's not enough "go fuck yourselves" in the world for this lady.

Holy fuck. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.

start thanking straight people for giving birth to them.

If my son is queer, he can't thank any straight people for his conception and birth, dumbass bigots.

Sometimes bisexuals and pansexuals have babies together. It's a thing we do. Y'know, to insure the takeover of the hetero world, because clearly Bi + Bi = SUPAHQUEER

Also, plenty of lesbian and gay people have had children, ffs. Sometimes with each other! Sometimes without having sex, even. I mean, I know antigay people have a very tenuous grasp on science, especially to do with reproduction... but seriously? You'd think all these Hetero Wife In The Home types would have seen a turkey baster before. And if they think you can "turn" ghey, then even in their world, lesbians and gay people would sometimes have hetero sex.

seriously lol. my mother, who gave birth to me? most definitely not heterosexual. -_-
