vanillakokakola PUPPY THREAD27th-Apr-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
So today during Crazy Puppy Time, Phoebus barrelled into his pen so hard that it spun 180 degrees and the door ended up facing a wall so he couldn't get out.

So, like any good dog owner, I took pictures of his anguish as he tried to figure out why he couldn't escape and play with Zeus.

And Zeus, as always, is the master of dog facial expressions.

and here's phoebus sleeping in his food dish

Lizzie and her favourite blanket (and one of her ears turned inside out XD ):

What a crappy-ish week. I had my semester-ly falling of the sick, which meant I had to cut both my office hours short and have someone cover my thursday night lab section for me. Ugh. I feel better today, but I'm still hacking up some really gross mucus.

On the bright side, one week left in the semester! Which means the grading of these god awful lab reports is almost at an end! YAY!

On the down side, it means it'll be nearly one year since I graduated. I formally graduated around mid-July of last year, but I walked in May with 3 hours of Eng. Lit. to do in the summer. At any rate, what it means is that I need to get off my ass and find a real job. A permanent job. A career. Sigh.
bushy_brow 28th-Apr-2012 12:23 am (UTC)
Finally! I've been waiting for a shenanigans post for nearly a week 'cause I wanted to say...

Wish me luck, bbs! :-D
layweed 28th-Apr-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
Congrats and good luck!

Sounds exactly where I want to be.
melodic_notes 28th-Apr-2012 12:24 am (UTC)
I came out to one of my best friends about my bisexuality and also told her that I had strong feelings for her... And she returns those feelings! Awesome, right?

Except not really, because she likes her TA too. Which I knew, but I figured I'd take precedence over him because I was right there, you know?

Except... Not really again... "I'm not sure what I want to do, but I definitely want to ask him out once the semester is over."

So in other words, I'm being rejected. <_< FOREVER ALONE, _P!
brittlesmile 28th-Apr-2012 12:50 am (UTC)
Congrats on coming out!

But sorry that it didn't quite work out with your friend. I feel like a lot of times, timing is everything. But it's still probably better now that everything's out in the open?
theciz 28th-Apr-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
Today is my last day in Japan. :( Buuut today I'm going to see the Giant Gundam in Odaiba, so that should be fun! Then tomorrow (Sunday for me lol) is my last day in Singapore before finally going home. So that'll be good.

I haven't done as much on this trip as I'd like (I keep hitting road blocks) but I did get to the Square Enix shop in Hatsudai and spend an alarming amount of money, so that was good lol.
layweed 28th-Apr-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
Bon voyage!
masakochan 28th-Apr-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
I'm wishing there was a way to get across that when I say that I want to "stop caring" I mean that I don't want this level of Perfectionism. Seriously, I like putting in details, but not when I'm finally having a realization that the level of dread that comes with my brain's need to 'GET THAT SHIT RIGHT!!!' is very similar to OCD's Perfectionism symptom. ugh Aspergers and co-morbidity. X_X

And I'm playing the game of 'switching medication' after being on regular strength (non-RX (extended release)) Adderall for around 13 years because I noticed I actually had a 'positive outlook/thought "train"' when I borrowed a single 60 mg thing of Vyvance from my younger sister.

brittlesmile So I was in Amsterdam for 4/2028th-Apr-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
It was awesome. Have some photos....

roseofjuly Re: So I was in Amsterdam for 4/2029th-Apr-2012 08:15 am (UTC)
Oh man, I fucking miss Amsterdam. I studied abroad there 5 years ago. My first experience out of the country - so nostalgic :D

Hope you enjoyed it!

It is my birthday, and I am about to go to a club, and wow I have not commented here in forever. How has your day been, _p?
keeperofthekeys 28th-Apr-2012 12:59 am (UTC)
Happy Birthday!
brittlesmile 28th-Apr-2012 12:48 am (UTC)
Oh also, I just saw Avengers because I am in France & have no really nerdy comic people to talk about it with. It just needs to come out in the US already so that I can freely express all of my feels~~~~~~~
hirra_chan 28th-Apr-2012 12:57 am (UTC)
One of the things I hate about being fat is that unless I'm eating fruit or a goddamn salad people will start bothering me about what I eat. Wouldn't be the same if I was thin (why yes i'm 19 and size 18-20, deal with it). I know my eating habits are crap, but it's my goddamn body.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I get angry when a person that was poor but now is well of tells me that "you can do anything if you work hard, even if you lack money". Good for you that you are successful now, but for a lot of people that doesn't happen (and no, even by "working hard", I don't I could afford going to study in Mexico City)

Wow, people need to mind their own freakin business. My favorite of these kinds of css's was my mom being complimented on having WLS and then that person turning to me and asking me when I was getting it done. My mom went BALLS TO WALL on them in the polite way she can do. It was kinda beautiful.

Hi guys hi hi hi.

I wrote 200 words of what is really a very short and plotless fic that I have been working on for MONTHS but have been too depressed to work on. So that's good, and I think I will actually finish it like, soon. God, I can't wait, the fact that I can't even finish a 5k word porn fic is just making me more depressed.

Did a bunch of gardening and hacking of old plants that shouldn't be where they are. Yeahhhhhh.

Planning to seriously work on my Russian. Actually being able to speak Russian would help with job search, I think. Uhhhh case system why you exist. No one needs a case system.

I ordered a pair of shoes from the Internet and they are on their way! they are YELLOW which I'm pretty sure will cheer me up every time I look at my feet.

Oh yeah I got my actual piece of paper saying that I have a master's degree in the mail the other day...like a year late. (There is a reason there was such a long delay, but it's not interesting.) All this time I've been like "yeah i have a master's degree" but because I didn't have the paper I was inside going "wait, do I really? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the email saying I was done was a LIE." but it is NOT a lie, I have a master's degree! And maybe I can one day parlay that into an actual job!

okay that was enough positivity for one post.
justspaz 28th-Apr-2012 01:02 am (UTC)
Whoa, I was always under the assumption that arbor was a proper noun. MIND=BLOWN.
babysinclair 28th-Apr-2012 01:06 am (UTC)
Oh I was working on trees today. In good news I've had 3 calls for interviews the last 3 days!!
castalianspring 28th-Apr-2012 01:09 am (UTC)
We are down to the last few eps of Once Upon a Time and SHIT IS GETTING REAL. I love being this excited about a show again. Looks like Emma may get to start kicking some serious ass, and hopefully we'll get a few reveals as well. I'm kinda preparing myself for the ginormous cliffhanger I'm sure they'll throw at us, though.

Work sucks, still not all that thrilled about the new job. But then I feel guilty about that b/c hey, I'm employed, and at a pretty reputable place at that. Still, it gets lonely here and I miss the mountains.

Anyone from the Sarasota, FL area? Or know of any geeky/fannish stuff around here? I have one online friend in the area and so far it's not as easy making friends here as it was when I went away for grad school. I work with a bunch of immature hipster types or just the kinds of men I don't want to hang out with, sadly.

I'm a library science graduate student and I am putting together a website for an activism project. The site is called Queer for Books. It has resources for librarians on making their libraries more LGBT-friendly and fun links for readers as well. The assignment was to take an activist stance on a library science issue. As a lesbian, library representation is important to me so I made a website to make a case for LGBT representation and resources for making a more queer friendly library.  I figured that it would be a good place to raise a bit of discussion.
  1. What is lacking from your library experience (public, academic, etc) in terms of LGBT representation and outreach?

I've been reviewing literature and I haven't been able to find much about LGBT-specific reader's advisory or representation that is current (even the decade old stuff is scarce). I would really appreciate this feedback. I'm going to be volunteering at my local LGBT library this summer which is going through renovations and changes. I hope to use this project as a jump off place for future pathfinders, outreach, and collection development there.

If you are so inclined and have some resources to share, check out  Queer for Books and let me know if I am missing a vital site. I know that my resources for POC, bisexuals, and transgender people aren't as numerous as those for gays and lesbians. Its also pretty American-centric with only a couple of international resources which I would love to add too. I'd appreciate suggestions.

Thanks so much!

I don't really have a good answer, but a friend of mine is a lesbian and a librarian. I'll pass the link on to her to see if she has any ideas, if that's okay with you.

I mostly love my grad program, but jfc I will never get used to this "12 hours of class crammed into one weekend, 4 times a semester" thing. My brain, it is dying.

The roommate and I were discussing how different alcohols might taste with different sodas last night, and then we had the bright idea to put some vanilla Smirnoff into my bottle of Sunkist. Ended up tasting pretty good, but I kinda ended up chugging it after she dared me to.

Woke up with a hangover this morning -____- yeah, don't plan on doing that again any time soon

but on a different note, any ideas for good mixes? I'm curious to see what you guys can come up with.
recorded 28th-Apr-2012 04:42 am (UTC)
Aren't hangovers primarily a result of not drinking enough water after/during drinking?

I could be wrong, but I always drink water after drinking and I don't feel too awful in the morning.
jwaneeta 28th-Apr-2012 01:27 am (UTC)
At long last, I've acquired a smartphone. US Cellular doubled my old rate, basically stating they would be charging me for smartphone use despite my stubborn reluctance to buy a smart phone, so I dumped them. I signed with their competitor and got a free 3G, which is plenty pour moi.

My bank also pissed me off, so I opened a couple of credit union accounts. Now I'm just going through all the hassle and bullshit of closing my previous accounts. Meh. It's a lot more complicated than switching phone carriers.

Anyway, I'm in a dumping mood. Who's next, eh? *eyes home security company*
alryssa 28th-Apr-2012 06:48 am (UTC)
Haha, I'm like you... I got a slide phone with a full keyboard about two years ago and haven't been able to really afford an upgrade. Now everyone's got apps and Androids and shit and I'm all, "...is there an app to make me tea in the morning? No? Wake me when there is."
clutzycricket 28th-Apr-2012 01:39 am (UTC)
I am starting my job hunt. Eep!

Also, I'm going to talk my younger sister out of taking a job at the pizza shop I'm currently at, because the pay is awful and tips nonexistant. (Seriously, in the entire area, we get paid second least. The shop that pays less is owned by the same guy.)
squee4242 28th-Apr-2012 01:41 am (UTC)
I felt like watching an old classic tonight so I'm watching Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Richard and Liz are my new OTP. Also Richard Burton could totally get it.

theguindo 28th-Apr-2012 01:45 am (UTC)
After reading up on the Dvorak keyboard layout and hearing that it feels more natural, is faster, and is better for people wanting to avoid RSIs, I decided to switch. (My wrist tendonitis has been flaring up like wild lately so I'm positively desperate for ways to mitigate that long-term.)

It's been three days and I'm getting a little faster and a little more accurate every day. It really does feel like a more natural layout, all the letters you use most often are on home-row and there's a lot less reaching all over the keyboard to hit the letter you need. My problem right now is I keep forgetting where q j v k are--they're all in the bottom row now and I have to move my hands to see them.

I expect I'll be up to a semi-reasonable speed after a week or so (I'm at like 25 wpm right now). Going cold turkey probably helped. I swapped my keys around for it too so NO GOING BACK NOW! I've already forgotten where everything was in qwerty XD
layweed 28th-Apr-2012 01:52 am (UTC)
Dvorak is something that I've really wanted to explore for a long time now. What type of Dvorak keyboard are you using? or did you just do the layout conversion + letter stickers?

I really want to explore it, but like you mentioned, you tend to forget qwerty. :(
jwaneeta 28th-Apr-2012 01:46 am (UTC)
I fiddled with my new phone most of the day, and now I'm watching Dirty Jobs DVDs*, and there's a mild thunderstorm. A pretty much perfect evening so far.

*The Hawaiian High Rise Window Washers ep is my fave ep. Ever. <3

my friend's fiance deleted my research papers and notes from the computer i was using at work. one day before they were due. my first semester in grad school ruined because he could think to ask what all of those documents with my name on them were.

recycle bin? any backups? maybe you could do a recovery?

Grad school practicum is almost over and then I only have two classes left! I'll be done by September!

And the school year is almost over, which is great as this is the time of year when the middle schoolers REALLY start acting like middle schoolers.

OT, but I finally managed to find a bottle of that Whimsical nail polish, and I really like it! ^_^ So thanks for mentioning it back a few weeks ago!
