The "War on Women": A Disturbingly Self-Centered Charade

1:29 pm - 04/29/2012
Yesterday the bra burning, GOP loathing, whiny feminazi’s gathered together for rallies all around the nation to protest the Obama Administration’s unrelenting delusional claim of a “War on Women” waged by conservatives. All over the twittersphere, self-proclaimed feminists used the hashtag #UAWOW (Unite Against War on Women) to share their spiteful, angry thoughts about the GOP and to complain openly about the “rights” these women are being denied (or, their incapability to be independent women and purchase their own inexpensive birth control at their local pharmacy). As I read these incredibly shallow and bellicose tweets from the army of laughable womyn, I began to feel a deep sense of disappointment in my own gender. Whatever happened to the self-reliant, empowered women that felt pride in the rights that they should feel gratuitous to have?

Frankly, I’m not even sure these women know what rights are. To the feminazi’s, rights seem to be the hypocritical demand that government give them a right to choose, while at the same time petitioning that the government give them free birth control. They’ll claim that the refusal of free contraceptives is a “denial enforced by a misogynist government” or “an attack on womanhood”. Some women demand free birth control so that they can go about and be sexually free, while some countries perform clitoridectomies on their women to deny them their sexual freedom. THAT is a true attack on womanhood.

Liberal women have gone so far backward in their thinking that they’ve completely forgotten how privileged we truly are. What about the women in Afghanistan who feel the tyrannical rule of their governments everyday? What about these women who can’t drive, obtain a job, or show any sense of individuality? In some countries, you face possible death if you don’t behave like a subservient non-being. Since when did not being handed contraceptives on a silver platter by our government equal being stoned to death?

This attempt to correlate “rights” with free birth control is not only utterly absurd but entirely insensitive and ignorant. Every day in third world countries our gender faces true ridicule and misogyny from their patriarchal societies. These women would do anything to live in a country laden with so much freedom like our own.

As conservatives, we’re told on a daily basis that our ideology is nothing but snobbish and lacks the compassion towards others that liberalism apparently entails. But isn’t the complete neglect of the rights we have in America, and the selfish demand of something we should deal with on our own a lack of compassion towards women who truly have NO rights? Let’s be honest, it’s a downright slap in the face. For an ideology that claims to put humanitarianism at the forefront of their agenda, they sure do worry an awful lot about themselves.

As a woman, I feel that my government has granted me the rights I deserve and feel entirely grateful for the way in which society treats me. I would never demand that Uncle Sam hand me a package of Yaz or Seasonique when I have two feet and a Walgreen’s close by. The current behavior of feminists who claim to speak for myself has entirely disgusted me and, I hate to say it, has embarrassed me to be a woman. I have a message for my fellow females: grow up. There is absolutely nothing “independent” or “empowering” about commanding your government to provide you with something that frankly isn’t even a necessity. Next time you decide to chant and parade around with signs that read “Second Class Citizens”, envision a helpless Afghan woman who gets the living daylights beaten out of her for simply being female. Feel unequal now?

i stopped at feminazi.

A friend of mine on Twitter, and also an occasional ontdper, has taken to using "feminazgul" in jest of this whole "feminazi" thing.

You know, along with being generally obnoxious, this article has a terrible grasp of grammar.
erinpuff 30th-Apr-2012 01:14 am (UTC)
Yup. "feel gratuitous to have"??
layweed 30th-Apr-2012 01:13 am (UTC)
First, I should say, I'm a man. As much of a surprise as that seems to be, everytime I mention it. *side eye ontdp-ers*

Anyway, If I can see (from an outsider's perspective) that women are having their rights taken away from them with the various anti-abortion, anti-social programs, anti-women's healthcare, movements and legislations that have sprung up over the last year, why can't Republican women? Idgi.

Also, in lighter matters. I keep over-cooling in the freezer soft drinks to the point where they turn into flavored slush with trapped CO2. This must be what drinking pop rocks is like. Only nastier.

Dear Writer of this Pile of Unintelligent Tripe,

Fuck you.

Sincerely,

This is just sad. Also, stop using Afghani women as an excuse. We can't fix our own problems, so we should ignore them until we can fix everyone else's? These arguments could have been applied against women's suffrage - I wonder if the original author would like to go back to the times when women didn't vote. We'd still have it better than women in the Middle East, right? We should be grateful.
captain_emily 30th-Apr-2012 04:36 pm (UTC)
I hate the "but people elsewhere have it worse" argument. Hate it.
qable 30th-Apr-2012 01:20 am (UTC)
That sure was a lot of words to say "LALALALALA CAN'T HEAR YOU," wasn't it?
effervescent 30th-Apr-2012 01:20 am (UTC)
...what? If we used the ~but it's so much better than it used to be~ argument, we'd still be stuck in the dark ages, probably literally.

Goddamn, this gets tiring.
madman101 30th-Apr-2012 01:25 am (UTC)
this is so insane it seems like some kind of hidden internal memo. i cannot stand such snide, insensitive, comfortable judgmentalism. there most definitely has been a scaled-up war on women this last year, and the writer only looks like a fool for denying it so vehemently. there are sometimes folks on the near-right, and the far-right, who deserve to be heard on out issues - offering sincere, valid perspectives, to be respected. not this. this is absolute hogwash, well worth my non-time. if words were boots i'd give this person a swift kick.

yes, as a male, i agree. let's bring all women, and so men, down to Afghanistani sub-subsistence level, cuz otherwise we are unpatriotic whiners. we would be oh so easy to control, working in the poppy fields and buying Koch oil to pay the taxes on our prisons and our skyrocketing $$$ war on abortion and all the discord and misery that comes with being a dysfunctional, gender-skewed, sexist theocracy. how can ANYONE buy this crap?
4o5pastmidnight 30th-Apr-2012 02:11 am (UTC)

All but one of the bloggers are in high school. Mommy and daddy still take care of them and they have no idea what the real world is like.

Look upthread in the reply to layweed's comment.

Contains the gem: "And women who you are not might have different opinions than you do."

And that means privilege doesn't exist! Because magic! Read it- it's pretty great.

So because I haven't had my genitals mutilated, it's totally fine for rich white men to tell me what to do with my uterus?

No. Shut up.
vexed_artist 30th-Apr-2012 01:42 am (UTC)
"As a woman, I feel that my government has granted me the rights I deserve"

Translation: I don't deserve the same rights as men, I deserve the rights that (old, ultra-wealthy, WASP) men say I deserve!

Response: Fuck you and that nasty, flea-bitten, swaybacked, mangy high horse you rode in on. You don't get to tell me what rights I "deserve" just because you're content to be treated like a brainless cow who needs a man to hold her hand because she's incapable of making her own decisions. I deserve the exact same rights as every other individual, male or female, end of story. If you want to sit down, shut up, and squander your rights, that's fine, but do not tell me that I need to do the same.

Have a nice day.

She's a lying liar who lies.

"...while at the same time petitioning that the government give them free birth control. "

She has no credibility and nothing upon which to stand in her argument.
hera_bearrra 30th-Apr-2012 01:50 am (UTC)
LOL. People need to get their facts straight. No one is asking the government to give out birth control. It's the insurance companies. And insurance isn't exactly free.

Fuck you. No, I will not just sit back and be grateful that I am allowed to drive or hold a job. I will not look the other way while the government tries to control my body because hey, it could be worse.

Get your factually and grammatically incorrect self out of your parents' house and get some damn life experience before you even presume to tell me what I should and should not be angry about.

I feel the urge to go at this entire piece with a red pen. I know I'm not a paragon of proper grammar, but land sakes.

Then there's that fantastic issue of a 17 year old telling the rest of the women on this planet to "grow up". Ye Gods and tiny monsters, no.
alizara 30th-Apr-2012 02:08 am (UTC)
She's seventeen. She's probably spewing the self-hate and internalized misogyny that's been drilled into her by her parents since she was old enough to understand. I feel as sorry for her as I do angry at the tone of the article.
wesaucereyes 30th-Apr-2012 06:22 pm (UTC)
I CANNOT wait for this child, and those a like, to leave their little bubbles and enter the big, bad world of college and hopefully have some sort of sense knocked into them.
mollywobbles867 30th-Apr-2012 02:13 am (UTC)
I'm just going to laugh that a 17 year old is telling my 29 year old self to "grow up" because I don't really need to tear down her statements because they're just that ridiculous and are straight out of the GOP playbook.

I was going to go to the protest in Nashville, but I had to finish a paper that was due at 5. Jealous of everyone who went.
schmanda 30th-Apr-2012 03:09 am (UTC)

Ayup, I had to go look under the hood because I had the same suspicions about the author.
