Florida Cannibal Identified

The cannibal who was discovered eating a a man’s face on the side of a Florida highway, and had to be shot at least six times before he stopped, has been identified by the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office as Rudy Eugene, 31, reports CBS Miami. His gruesome attack on the homeless man is the fourth recent, vicious attack in that area blamed on drugs, according to Miami-Dade County police.

As previously reported by NewsOne, Eugene had to be shot to death by police after he was found eating another man’s face. Even as he was hit by the repeated shots, he kept gnawing at his victim’s face, whom sources say is now barely recognizable.

According to the Miami Herald, Eugene was arrested on a battery charge when he was 16-years-old, and was arrested at least seven other times for charges including marijuana and trespassing. His ex-wife told WPLG that his behavior was erratic and increasingly violent.

“I wouldn’t say he had mental problem, but he always felt like people was against him,” she said. “No one was for him, everyone was against him.” The woman filed for divorce in 2007 after a little of a year of marriage. She told the reporter that there were times she feared for her life.

“He was literally eating his face, from the top of his forehead to his jaw is gone. He wasn’t only gnawing at it, he was swallowing bits of his face,” said Armando Aguilar, who heads the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police. “This is about the fourth incident I hear already within our Miami Dade County area where these individuals have taken off their clothes and gone totally insane as a result of the drugs they’re taking,” he continues. “I don’t know if there’s any such a thing as good LSD out there but apparently this is really bad LSD.”

Aguilar said that the responding officer shouted for the man to stop, but he simply turned and growled at the officer and returned to eating his victim’s face. A witness confirms this version of events and fears of “zombie attacks” have taken root.

“The guy just stood, his head up like that, with pieces of flesh in his mouth,” says the witness. “And he growled.”

According to Dr. Paul Adams, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami the version of LSD believed to be responsible is called “bath salts” on the streets and users under the influence of the drug have been known to use their jaws as weapons during attacks. Adams believes they are in a state of delirium because of extremely high body temperature caused by the drug.

“Extremely strong, I took care of a 150 pound individual who you would have thought he was 250 pounds,” Dr. Adams said. “It took six security officers to restrain the individual.

“It’s dangerous for the police,” Adams continues. “It’s dangerous for the fire fighters. It’s dangers [sic] for the hospital workers taking care of them because they come in, they have to be restrained both chemically and physically and you’re asking for someone to get hurt.”

While Eugene may be dead, his victim is currently fighting for his life with over 75 to 80 percent of his face missing — and Aguilar has a message for the drug dealers in Miami pushing “bath salts.”

“I have a message for whoever is selling it out there,” he said. “You can be arrested for murder if you are selling this LSD to people, unsuspecting people on the street and somebody ends up dying as a result you will be charged with murder.”

Police: Hackensack Man Stabbed Himself, Threw His Skin And Intestines At Officers

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – A man who stabbed himself and threw pieces of his skin and intestines at police officers trying to subdue him was hospitalized in critical condition on Monday, authorities said.

Officers encountered 43-year-old Wayne Carter on Sunday morning when they responded to reports of a man barricaded in a room in Hackensack and threatening to harm himself, Lt. John Heinemann said.

Two officers kicked in the door and saw Carter in a corner, holding a knife in his hand, police said. Carter, ignoring the officers’ orders to drop the knife, stood up and stabbed himself in the abdomen, legs and neck, they said.

Carter yelled at the officers and took an aggressive stance, and the officers used pepper spray in a bid to subdue him, but it had no effect, Heinemann said.

Police said that Carter then cut off pieces of his skin and intestines and threw them at the officers.

The officers decided to retreat and call in the Bergen County SWAT team, Heinemann said. Carter finally was restrained and was taken to a hospital just before midnight.

No charges have been filed because of the unusual nature of the case, Heinemann said. He said he believes that drug use or mental illness may have contributed to Carter’s behavior, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Carter had been arrested in the past for aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
