Ron Perlman Visits Child in Full Hellboy Makeup for Make-A-Wish

5:49 pm - 07/08/2012

The 62-year-old actor made one little boy's wish come true when he showed up in his full Hellboy makeup and costume for a day of hanging out with his big screen hero.

Six-year-old Zachary had expressed to Make-A-Wish his desire "to meet and become Hellboy." The boy is undergoing treatment for leukemia, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Enter Spectral Motion, the creature effects house that brought to life the many fantastical characters in Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy 2 (2008).

They in turn approached Perlman, who "loved the idea and donned the makeup once more," Spectral Motion said on its Facebook page.

Perlman then underwent the four-hour makeup application procedure it takes to become Hellboy and shocked a delighted Zachary -- who later got the opportunity to become a pint-sized Hellboy himself. More photos of the memorable encounter are posted on Facebook.

The visit was the second time in the past three weeks Spectral Motion opened has its doors to Make-A-Wish children. Another fan, Caleb, got a firsthand look at the animatronics behind some of the studio's well-known creatures, which also have appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Aww, that made my heart melt. Ron Perlman is a stand-up dude, especially since he hated donning all that makeup for the movies.

THIS MAN IS AWESOME LIKE A MILLION HOTDOGS.

I have never heard anything bad about this guy. Ever. And that's rare for Hollywood folks. And he hated that makeup, didn't he? And then he's all "Leuk kid? SUIT ME UP RAWR!" yeah. fangirl squee. <3

I thought I read somewhere that it gave him skin reactions, like he was allergic to it.

That makes this super extra special.

I can't imagine very many celebrities would go out of their way to do something like this. This was very sweet of him.

You might be surprised. A friend of mine worked for Make-a-Wish years ago, and one local kid wanted (a) some kind of expensive video game setup and (b) to meet Charles Barkley. Barkley agreed to it on the condition that there would be no press and it wouldn't be publicized in any way. He brought the kid several video game setups and a number of games, and then just hung out for the entire day at the kid's house, playing games with him and talking to him. I always thought that was pretty cool.

Ron Perlman has always been my favorite actor, even when he appears in the Worst Movies Ever. He's always had a rep for being a genuinely good person and I'm very happy to see this confirmed.

I always liked him in Quest For Fire, but he really won me over in the Magnificent Seven TV show. I hate that it only lasted two years.
kaisenji 9th-Jul-2012 02:11 pm (UTC)
Quest for Fire was the best. My Mom loves the guy especially as Vincent.

Omg Magnificent Seven...I loved that show so much.

Though I've seen that movie a long time ago...I didn't know he was in it.

I liked him in I sell the Dead. I got it because Dominic Monaghan was in it.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

The kinds of things folks do for the Make-A-Wish foundation is honestly just amazing. So many people will go all out and give up time and talent do make these kids smile. For a mama bear like me it's so wonderful. :D

I agree. This is the most famous one I can think of atm. My bf and I saw the highway unnaturally, quiet and we thought it because of an accident. We were happy to learn later, that was not the case.

queenbathory 9th-Jul-2012 05:29 pm (UTC)
LOVE HIM!
