London Olympics get the Max Factor

7:00 pm - 07/16/2012

Max Factor has unveiled the official make-up look of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012.

Created by award-winning make-up artist and Max Factor UK ambassador Caroline Barnes, the 'Sports Chic' make-up look will be worn by all female athlete and presenter escorts during the 805 victory ceremonies at the 2012 Games, where athletes are presented with their medals.

As you would expect, the Sports Chic beauty look begins with a natural, healthy glow created using Max Factor’s Lasting Performance Foundation, which is then enhanced with regal purple and gold hues inspired by the official costumes designed by Royal College of Art students.

“I wanted it to encompass everything the Games are about,” said Caroline. “So [the Sports Chic look] represents wellbeing; it’s natural and fresh and will give each of the wearers a lovely healthy glow.”

While gold and purple colours may sound like a glitzy combination, even for the Olympic Games, variations of both hues work will with any skin-tone, particularly around the eyes as Caroline has done, pairing Max Factor’s Coco Crazy Eye Trio (RRP £6.99) and the brand’s Liquid Effect Pencil in Violet Voltage (RRP £6.99).

“The eyes of the world will be on London this year and I’m so proud that my make-up design will be a part of something as big as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” continued Caroline.

Sweat-resistant makeup?
lizcharlene 17th-Jul-2012 12:45 am (UTC)
Maybe just put on some waterproof mascara and get your game on.
mollywobbles867 17th-Jul-2012 01:18 am (UTC)
It's for a ceremony, not actual competitions.
eames 17th-Jul-2012 12:46 am (UTC)
So [the Sports Chic look] represents wellbeing; it’s natural and fresh and will give each of the wearers a lovely healthy glow.

As does, y'know, being an incredibly physically fit athlete, but I don't suppose that's *~pretty~* enough. Urgh, fuck this shit. You know what's natural and fresh? Skin.
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
The escorts are not incredibly physically fit athletes. :|
birdofpray09 17th-Jul-2012 12:48 am (UTC)
I'm sorry but why the hell is there an official makeup look?

So female athletes, having just worked their asses off, women who pride themselves (presumably) on not conforming to traditional senses of beauty, women who have most likely endured rampant sexism from both genders, are forced in their greatest moment of pride to kowtow to some misogynistic belief that women need to look good in order to justify their achievements?

This is ridiculous.
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 12:55 am (UTC)
This is for escorts, not athletes. It matches the escort uniforms.
one_hoopy_frood 17th-Jul-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
Normally I'm all for a makeup post but this ain't it. Why the hell does every single female athlete need to be made up?
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 12:55 am (UTC)
None of them do. This is for the escorts, not the athletes.
spyral_path 17th-Jul-2012 12:50 am (UTC)
"it's natural and fresh and will give each of the wearers a lovely healthy glow."

I'll never understand what wearing foundation has to do with looking natural or healthy.
maladaptive 17th-Jul-2012 01:50 am (UTC)
Because it covers up uneven skin tone?

People can't even tell I have acne when I put foundation on. Half of my friends have been surprised to learn I wear make-up every day because I don't do any eye stuff.

So yeah, my skin looks way healthier with foundation. Natural? No, but it looks better than rosacea patches.
froda_baggins 17th-Jul-2012 12:51 am (UTC)
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm no.
chimbleysweep 17th-Jul-2012 12:53 am (UTC)
will be worn by all female athlete and presenter escorts

If this is going to be worn by the actual athletes (which... makes no sense), shouldn't that say 'athletes', not athlete? This gives me the impression it's stage make-up for those costumed escorts they always have at medal ceremonies.

How can they put make-up on the athletes for medal ceremonies? There's no TIME, especially for team events where they're going to be damp (anything involving water) or sweaty (everything else).
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 12:54 am (UTC)
It is not going to be for the athletes. "Athlete" is attached to "escort", as in at the opening ceremonies. Athletes will not be wearing makeup unless they want to.
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 12:54 am (UTC)
the 'Sports Chic' make-up look will be worn by all female athlete and presenter escorts

The official makeup is to match the official escort uniforms:

one_hoopy_frood 17th-Jul-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
To be fair, the structure of that sentence is incredibly confusing. If it said "will be worn by female escorts of all athletes and presenters" it would have been a lot less confusing.
meow_tan 17th-Jul-2012 12:55 am (UTC)
aside from all stated points, max factor has crappy makeup in my experience.
violetrose 17th-Jul-2012 01:23 am (UTC)
LOL I was thinking this as I read the post. I have an eyeshadow palette by them that I got for my birthday, but overall, they're not amazing quality.
keeni84 17th-Jul-2012 01:13 am (UTC)
So is the makeup for the escorts or the athletes?
mollywobbles867 17th-Jul-2012 01:21 am (UTC)
escorts
zemi_chan 17th-Jul-2012 01:35 am (UTC)
I didn't even know that there was an official "makeup look" for the Olympics...wow.

Edit, because I read the article incorrectly. lol Oop.

WTF does makeup have to do with how good you are at performing for sporting events? I did gym class, and... guess what. That "waterproof mascara"? Yeah, it fucking LIES. MAKEUP IN EYES AAUUUUGGGGHHH do these people not realize what sweat + makeup does to someone's ability to do things like SEE?! What the fuck does what the person LOOKS like have to do with their ability to perform, anyways? This is not a beauty pageant. This is a sporting event.
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 02:08 am (UTC)
I give up.
poetic_pixie_13 17th-Jul-2012 02:12 am (UTC)
I'm slowly getting better at makeup. I can do eyeliner, mascara, basic eyeshadow and lipstick but that's it. The stuff I'll put on for a wedding (and being Tamil I have at least two weddings are year) is what a lot of femme girls wear just going out. Which is cool, I want to rock the hard femme look and when I see all the things they can do with makeup and colour I get jealous. ;_________;
rex_dart 17th-Jul-2012 02:23 am (UTC)
I'm trying to learn, but even when professionals do my makeup I always feel that I look better the lighter on it I go so it's not much incentive. :/

I'll be tackling this next month and I would be so lost without the step by step instructions and shopping list. T___T
beoweasel 17th-Jul-2012 02:15 am (UTC)
Am I the only one creeped out by that picture? The eyes! THE EYES.
endlos_schleife 17th-Jul-2012 02:38 am (UTC)
I don't know why but for some reason the first thing that popped into my mind was how similar this sounds to the hunger games.
eveofrevolution 17th-Jul-2012 02:54 am (UTC)
MTE
prawnographer 17th-Jul-2012 03:26 am (UTC)
so why is this news??
chimbleysweep 17th-Jul-2012 03:31 am (UTC)
lol I like how people are holding makeup in contempt no matter what its use is.

This make-up is really, really natural. It's just a pink lip and contoured eye. Utterly standard, inoffensive stuff. It's tamer than regular stage make-up and tamer than the glitter parade we'll probably see from some gymnasts.

Moreover, it's for ceremony. Looking fancy is sort of what ceremonial dress encompasses.
eversofar 17th-Jul-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
make up is inherently evil, obviously.
christoph 17th-Jul-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
Can somebody please explain to me how the "sexual objectification of politicians" tag relates to this post?

or the "sexism" tag... but I guess based on the comments here that seems to be a matter of opinion.
mollywobbles867 17th-Jul-2012 03:46 am (UTC)
These confused responses (including my own, I thought it said athletes too) shows that syntax is everything in conveying meaning.
lafinjack 17th-Jul-2012 04:52 am (UTC)
No not it's!
baked_goldfish 17th-Jul-2012 04:31 am (UTC)
“I wanted it to encompass everything the Games are about,”

Product placement and corporate tie-ins?
shadowesque13 17th-Jul-2012 04:41 am (UTC)
Clearly games are about makeup and all those little women escorts looking pretty! I mean...what, were they about something else?
hinoema 17th-Jul-2012 04:50 am (UTC)
Are they allowed to say O******?
baked_goldfish 17th-Jul-2012 05:14 am (UTC)
They've probably paid out the ass for the right to advertise their association with the Olympics.
kishmet 17th-Jul-2012 06:11 am (UTC)
I didn't misread the "all female athlete and presenter escorts"

But I did think they meant escorts like from an escort agency so I was initially appalled
jugglingeggs 17th-Jul-2012 10:48 am (UTC)
lol I can imagine the pearl clutching that must have gone through your head!
casketscratcher 17th-Jul-2012 02:10 pm (UTC)
I'm starting to wonder if there is an Official Olympics™ version of every product, ever.
crossfire 17th-Jul-2012 03:03 pm (UTC)
Do other people see LJ double-posting comments?
redstar826 17th-Jul-2012 03:37 pm (UTC)
everything looks normal for me
