Fucking hell

I'd bet on misguided anti-Muslim hate.
flcadam 5th-Aug-2012 07:56 pm (UTC)
Sikhism is different than Islam; it's a Punjabi religion that has it's own teachings, scriptures, etc.

That's why the shooting seems odd. Who would really have a problem with a religion that is somewhat obscure in the US? Maybe it was a personal vendetta conducted by someone affiliated with the temple.

Of course, you could be write. Maybe the shooter was motivated by prejudice and was too dense to tell the difference between people from India and Arabs.
aviv_b 5th-Aug-2012 07:17 pm (UTC)
Unbelievable. They think there's only one shooter, but they haven't let the EMTs on site yet.
onanemptyshore 5th-Aug-2012 07:28 pm (UTC)
That's making me so confused. The shooter has apparently been down for awhile, but it took, what, 3+ hours to enter the temple?
kerrence 5th-Aug-2012 07:27 pm (UTC)
Oh my god, how awful.
kerrence 5th-Aug-2012 07:34 pm (UTC)
according to eyewitnesses interviewed on their local Fox (I know) station, there were two shooters who were dropped off by a car that took off.

I really hope they get both shooters and any accomplices.

this is a pretty lengthy article. Witnesses are saying that the shooter was a white guy, not affiliated with the temple. One of the injured is a police officer who exchanged fire with the shooter.

This is terrible. :( When are we going to have a real conversation about gun control in this country? How many have to die for us to take the situation seriously? And I agree with granting that it probably has something to do with misdirected anti-Muslim hate. This is just so sad.
sankaku_atama 5th-Aug-2012 09:30 pm (UTC)
When are we going to have a real conversation about gun control in this country?

My chips are getting stacked on "Probably Never".
furrygreen 5th-Aug-2012 07:37 pm (UTC)
Good job, Bachmann! Hope you're proud.

God! What's happening to this country?
kerrence 5th-Aug-2012 07:40 pm (UTC)
Bachmann isn't Wisconsin.
executivehpfan 5th-Aug-2012 07:40 pm (UTC)
This is so heart-breaking.
atomic_joe2 5th-Aug-2012 07:42 pm (UTC)
Terribly sad. I heard the gunman had been shot on UK news I'm not sure how accurate that is.
lovelokest 5th-Aug-2012 07:45 pm (UTC)
As of right now, the reports are that the gunman is one of the dead. The officer who shot him was also shot but is expected to recover.
atomic_joe2 5th-Aug-2012 07:48 pm (UTC)
Awful its just desperately sad. In a place when they probably felt the safest too. I have my own views on gun control but I'll put those aside and just think of the families of the victims right now. But I think a rational debate should happen sooner or later.

my heart goes to these poor ppl :(
it's so tragic.

post-racial america smh.

This is so sad and infuriating. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.
chaya 5th-Aug-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
Heartbreaking.

Do we have a source for the getaway driver thing or has that been disproven?
domin8ed 5th-Aug-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
This is only a few miles from my home and it is heartbreaking. They do keep saying on the news only one shooter but there will be another update around 3:30 with more news. So hopefully there will be more definitive information then.
havok_for_god 5th-Aug-2012 08:11 pm (UTC)
i read an article about the shooting on yahoo and it was filled with people commenting that they were praying for the police officer who was shot. i guess the injured and dead worshipers aren't worthy of being included in those prayers.
moonbladem 5th-Aug-2012 08:27 pm (UTC)
i guess the injured and dead worshipers aren't worthy of being included in those prayers.

Excellent point.
starzangelus 5th-Aug-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)
OMG.

My hopes and prayers go out to the injured and families of those killed. If there is another shooter, I hope they find him and he receives the proper judgment.
sarah531 5th-Aug-2012 08:13 pm (UTC)
I just heard that a ten-year-old boy was the first person shot...?

There isn't enough hell in the universe for someone who'd do that. :(
fofomazuzu 5th-Aug-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
From what I read is that the shooter approached a priest outside and shot them and then proceeded to go inside and shoot.
evilgmbethy 5th-Aug-2012 08:19 pm (UTC)
jesus. how awful.
moonbladem 5th-Aug-2012 08:26 pm (UTC)
There are not enough WTFs for something like this. Why do something like this?

My thoughts go to the victims, the injured, their families and the cop.

Those poor victims and their families and fellow temple members. I hope there is a hell so the gunman can burn in it.

We JUST had a shooting. Not saying, "why couldn't he wait" but more of, "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS WHEN WE JUST HAD ONE".

Seriously. I just really fucking can't deal with this. My prayers go out to the victims, those who have been injured, and their families as well as the Temple members. Seriously... Just why.
the_glow_worm 5th-Aug-2012 10:27 pm (UTC)
That was my first thought. Goddamnit, America, can we go at least a couple months without a mass murder? Please?

flcadam Re: Comparing CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC5th-Aug-2012 09:06 pm (UTC)
CNN is trying to play this game where they don't talk about shootings because they don't want to glorify the killer. In the aftermath of the Aurora shooting, a victim's father was telling Anderson Cooper that he doesn't like the way the press gives too much coverage to these shootings. Since then, they've completely toned down their coverage of the Aurora shooting, and it's extended on to this story.

I personally don't agree with this approach because now they're doing a disservice to those of us who desire information on these stories. But that's the reason why they're not blasting this on the front page right now.
unbridledglee 5th-Aug-2012 08:53 pm (UTC)
What is wrong with people? :(

US needs gun control now.
baka_tenshi 5th-Aug-2012 09:03 pm (UTC)
Oh the US has gun control. It's just not very strict.
