Several people have been shot after a gunman opened fire on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, Patch reported.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Oak Creek.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, witnesses say that as many as 30 people may have been shot.

The AP confirms the incident.

Witnesses told WTMJ that the suspect oped fire inside the temple. Police have not released any information about the suspected shooter and no deaths or injuries have been confirmed by authorities.

According to Patch, police scanner reports indicated that the suspect may still be at large.

I'll post some updates as they occur.

Yeah, I kind of feel that if this is going to be the media's policy, then they should offer some adult channels for those of us who don't like someone deciding what I, as a member of the public, should or shouldn't learn about an event. I've been pretty irked with the Aurora shooting coverage because the cameras were kicked out of the courtroom, records are being needlessly sealed, gag orders are keeping information from getting out, and the press decided that it doesn't want to talk about this guy or do a better job of digging into his history for the fear of "glorifying" him. I really hope that this isn't the direction we're going in when it comes to matters that are of public interest.

I would actually think with the hate crime element it would get more media saturation. The media tends to eat up narratives that center on racism/religious discrimination/etc. It definitely doesn't make good news to report people getting along and having a normal day. :-)
