Just got back from a trip to the North West. From Portland to Northern Ca. ;laksdf;lajksd;lfkja;sldkjf everything was green and living beautiful and fresh and ... Now I must ask myself, WHY does anyone live anywhere else ?
(The only Portland caveat, I could do with a bit less of the mid 20-30something hairy white guys reeking with hipster entitlement and privilege. Really. Please. Wow we ran into some really rude and judgmental locals - but that's probably true everywhere to some degree. So .. still loved the city.)
That's so funny-- I recently went back home, from Sacramentoish CA to Pennsylvania, and I was wondering, WHY does anyone live anywhere other than California? The weather was so gorgeous and I flew home to thunderstorms and ridiculous humidity!
So I just discovered that instead of the rheumatoid arthritis doctors have thought I had, I probably actually have a severe case of Joint Hypermobility Syndrome.
The pain will probably be the same, and unlike RA there is no chance of remissions, but on the vain side of things disfigurement is highly unlikely, so I'm taking this as a medical victory tbh.
I got diagnosed with RA about a year and a half ago. I've mostly got it under control, where the pain is just a tolerable background level. But it really sucks.
Whichever way it works out for you, I hope they can find something that works for you to relieve the pain! :)

I'm feeling better. Still waiting for an appointment, but I'm on the list at least. Also, I applied for college! I'm hopefully doing Maths and Psychology. :D
Also, I bought some make-up and perfume, because I wanted to ~treat myself. The perfume was worth £60, but I got it for £26. It's a UK site, so only people in the EU/EEA can order from it.
So like, after two and a half months, I finally FINALLY have been invited for an interview. The downside is, the position is in Amarillo, and I have to fly up there for the interview (spending ~$400 of my own money, no less). I really want the position, but I really don't want to move to Amarillo, in the Texas Panhandle. It's like, the Texas Panhandle. =\
If I get offered the job, I have a feeling I'll be forced to take it because it's been almost 3 months and I have had no luck whatsoever.
My girlfriend and I had a long talk a few days ago about where we want to live and what we want to do once I'm out of college. I almost fainted, I was so happy to actually discuss ~our future~ and how we both want to travel and where we want to go and etc. We ended up deciding to do a road trip around the US as soon as she can get her license and a car, and then when I graduate I'll go wherever I can get a good job and we'll just move there, and keep going wherever there's good work and public transportation (I have anxiety conditions that prohibit me from driving). She also mentioned the pictures of a lesbian wedding she saw on Tumblr and I maybe squeed a little too hard. Maybe someday.
In other news, I grabbed a once in a lifetime opportunity in my doll collecting and snagged a limited edition doll body that I couldn't afford when it came out, for less than half what anyone else was asking. I'm super excited to see it in person on Sunday or Monday when I get back to NYC.
I also went to the Philadelphia Zoo for the first time ever!! I'm sunburned and my feet hurt and IT WAS SO WORTH IT. omg ANIMALS. Zoos are the best. :D
Aaaand lastly, I finally checked what all the fuss was about with Suits and I am in LOVE with it. :D Such a great show! It's been a long time since I've been so excited about a new show.
..I feel like I should say sorry for using this as my personal journal, lol!
She also mentioned the pictures of a lesbian wedding she saw on Tumblr and I maybe squeed a little too hard.
Oooh if you get married, can I be your bridesmaid? I need an excuse to wear a nice dress. :D
I hope you enjoy your road trip, that sounds so fun! I'd love to travel around my country, and the world, just seeing different places and experiencing their cultures.
It's FRIDAY!!! And I found a rental cello for my sister's wedding in Seattle over Labor Day weekend. I'm playing in a trio for the ceremony, but I'm not able to bring my own cello. :( So I hope this one's good!
*Squee* I love little kids. And babies. My friend is pregnant and I'm almost as excited as she is because OMG BABBY I'll be able to cuddle her and babysit eeeeee!
Finished a summer class with good feelings and now bracing myself for fall classes (yay?)! I'm full of turmoil about my degree program -Japanese studies- because even though I like studying the language/culture I don't know if I want to make it my career. I love literature and the written word, and even work in a bookstore (though retail bookselling has turned me into a huge cynic, that's another shenanigan). .... I feel like maybe I could find myself in Japan, but I know myself intimately in literature... I want to WRITE.. Even if my chances of employment plummet I'll find a wayto live (or starve ha)! Shenanigans, do you have advice (practical or emotional) for me? How (if at all) has literature changed your lives? Is Japanese even practical enough to warrent this indecision? Any holders of an English bachelors degree out there?
Two weeks until Dragon*Con, and I'm almost done with my and my brother's costumes! :D By the way, thank you to everyone who suggested places to look for pink tights: with your help, I finally managed to find some!
In not so happy news, my other brother is leaving for bootcamp this week. He still insists that it's going to be one big fun camping trip (he signed up for the infantry because he says it's going to be even more fun and exciting)--and a few days ago actually had the gall to say that "no one suffers in the military". :/
There's something else that he's mentioned that's been bothering me, and since I know some of you are in/have been in the military, I thought I'd ask about it here. He said that there's this test they have to pass before getting into bootcamp, on the manual/guidebook or something like that. He failed it the first time he took it, and then apparently the recruiter had him take it again after providing him with the correct answers (when he wondered if that was allowed, the recruiter brushed it off with "no one ever passes that test"). My brother thought it was 'really cool' of the recruiter to let him cheat, but it struck me as kind of unethical. :/ Has anyone heard of anything like this happening?
My slow acquisition of "grown up furniture" continues this week, as I managed to snag a wonderful solid wood double-wide bookcase off Craigslist for only $90, the best price I'd seen for anything similar by far. I finally have a nice little reading nook, though my next step is to sand and stain the chair a bit darker so it goes with the rest of the wood in the room. It's such a relief to get rid of the cheap particleboard.
I also got some free wood out of the dumpsters at work (perfectly nice stuff, too) that I can use for my next project.
Less than two weeks until Dragon*Con! I am so not ready, but still, can't wait.
Any other Warehouse 13 fans here? I just got into the show recently and am head over heels for it. Like Once Upon a Time, it gives me so many awesome women on my TV every week, plus I am a sucker for that family/team dynamic. ♥
That's a nice looking bookcase, and for $90? It's a steal! I hate particleboard crap too.
I wish I had a workspace or something, but apartment living doesn't really lend itself to that. I often find discarded wood and what not during move-out periods too.
New neighbors to the back have a new puppy and it's one of those yappy dogs that don't shut up and they like to keep it outside and it has the same name as I do.
They also have a young daughter. There is nothing fucking creepier than just walking around minding your own business weeding the yard or some shit and then having a little girl tell you that you're a good girl in that tone of voice.
ಠ__ಠ
ALSO: My brother and his horde of Chinese camp staff freaked out Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) in a Ben & Jerry's two weeks ago. There were about thirty of them getting ice cream and eyeballing him trying to figure out why he looked so familiar until someone said "Oh my god, it IS him!" and then EVERYBODY turned to look (lol what is discretion) and Clark Gregg booked it outta there with his cone.
I tried to apologize to him on Twitter but he didn't see my message. :(
ALSO ALSO: Darren Aronofsky started filming "Noah" literally the day after I left Iceland last month. We could've done shots of Brennivin with Russell Crowe if only we'd booked our trip a week later.
I spent two hours in a local bar, listening to a band, seated two feet away from Steve Buscemi and didn't realize it until the next day when my friend said "Oh my god, that guy who sat behind you last night is an actor! I thought I recognized him!"
Made a therapy appointment today and I already feel better.
I didn't get much sleep last night because just as I was beginning to drift off to sleep, it started thundering and my dogs lost it. Urgh. I don't want to take a nap, though, because I need to get back on a normal sleep schedule.
- work stress - I have been randomly depressed about everything under the sun, it felt like - boyfriend's dog almost died and he was bawling forever, poor bb.
sooooo I quit my job yesterday. today was supposed to be my last day, but we got new management and they wanted me to refill out an application and get re-hired even though I was only going to be there for 2 more day. It'd only be like $30 I'd be missing and... not worth it
my dad got into a car wreck on monday, totaled his car, because he ran a red light and he's just been... in this mood for the last 4 days. he's depressed, he's kind of a jerk to everyone, last night he and my mom fought because my mom needed to go to the store but he wanted her to make dinner
and then I told him that I'd probably be getting an apartment at the end of this school year so I won't live on campus again (it's expensive and I don't want more loans taken out and my dad doesn't seem to GET THAT) and he took it as a personal offense like I hate everyone in my house and want to move out. I was thinking that I'd have a job or an internship that I didn't want to leave so I'd have to stay in the city. I'm just so sick of his bullshit right now.
guys, i need good articles (preferably non-biased, just facts) to convert my fiscal conservative friend to more logical thinking...if yous have any on hand :)

Well , where do I even start? Hubby and I are leaving our apartment do to rental increase. This means returning to each of our respective parental units home. While planning our next move, he got laid off. So for now we will be living apart waiting for my own job ( state of calif corrections and rehab) to either hang on to me or lay me off. And my current job is likely to implode soon because there so much crazy going on.
Now that we've gotten rid of the negative stuff the bright spot even know I have to go back home to my parent's house, it will allow us to save for a house and we will be looking again in January so I am very excited about that! Also this is a great opportunity to and finally get a certificate in CIS but work on my Liberal arts too. So a little good with the bad.
I ended up going to Toronto's annual beer festival a few weeks back, and since I couldnt get friends to come along I opted for the Girl's Guided Beer Tour ticket. Recommended! Very fun and educational. And empowering, I might add.
^ A round up of the beer samples I had on the Girl's Guided Beer Tour:
TOP RIGHT: St-Ambroise Raspberry Ale TOP LEFT: Flying Monkeys Smashbomb Atomic IPA MIDDLE RIGHT: Black Oak Summer Saison MIDDLE LEFT: Innis & Gunn Original BOTTOM PHOTO: Mill Street Walker's Blueberry Wheat
Least fave -- Flying Monkeys, because I cannot stand the taste of IPA (India Pale Ale). TOTAL FAVE -- hands down, Innis & Gunn Original. Because it tastes like if beer made sweet, three-way love to scotch wkiskey and traces of toffee. UNNNNF.
+ 8 random pics behind the spoiler [150kb each, or less]:
Everyone was equipped with a festival guide and a glass beer stein. :D
VIP wristbands for the Ladies Beer Tour; perks GALORE (vip lounge access/bathrooms in place of portapotties; 5 extra beer tokens; a full, entirely separate pint + snacks after the Girl's Tour; early entry/an extra hour on site). Dope.
^ Lulz. Oh, Flying Monkeys Brewery.
^ Mirella Amato is Canada's FIRST (and I think ONLY) female certified Beer Cicerone! She lead the Girl\s Guided Tasting Tour. :)
^ Lulzy swag. Flying Monkeys Brewery, you'll notice, are trouble-makers.
Food truck delicacies, mmmm. I had veal and smoked pulled-pork sliders.
Evening concert! Ngl, by the 4th song I was investing energy into dodging the elbows and flail-dancing of drunk dudebros.
^ After the Gilr's Guided Tasting, inside the ~VIP~ beer lounge. There were about 15-20 of us so I asked that we all do an epic cheers shot, haha.
"I am women, hear me chug," etc. Sooo much fun. Women should drink beer together all the freaking time.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH THIS LOOKS SO AWESOME I WANT TO HAVE BEEN THERE. I was in Toronto for just two days last month and it was not enough time for anything fun. It was during the Fringe Festival and we didn't even have enough time to catch anything. :(
The annual ACBF in Boston doesn't get anywhere near that fancy. I wish they would. They kind of just set you loose among 100+ breweries with a tiny plastic (but biodegradable!) cup.
I loooooooove bourbon ales. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is one of the staples in my house. It's a kicker at 8% ABV, though, so I can't be doing anything that requires me to be upright while drinking it.
I guess in brighter news, I'm getting better at parallel parking, haha.
I know that feeling. My step-sister just got engaged and I feel like such a jerk for being all jealous. :/
(The only Portland caveat, I could do with a bit less of the mid 20-30something hairy white guys reeking with hipster entitlement and privilege. Really. Please. Wow we ran into some really rude and judgmental locals - but that's probably true everywhere to some degree. So .. still loved the city.)

All I do anymore is work on Avengers gowns for Dragon*Con.
After they saw me in the mockup for my dress pattern all my friends took to calling me Titty Stark. :(
Is anybody else sewing something? Or going to D*C?
It's too cute you guys. TOO CUTE.

Argh. I hate that.

If I'd only just turned around.
