Pat Robertson Tells Man To Move To Saudi Arabia So He Can Beat His Wife (Legally, of Course)

6:17 pm - 09/10/2012
This morning on the 700 Club's regular segment "Bring It On," in which horrible people ask other horrible people how to continue being horrible people, a man asked Pat Robertson how to work things out with his wife who "has no respect for [him] as head of the house." Pat Robertson responded, unblinking:

Well you could become a muslim and you could beat her.

Whole seconds pass before Pat chuckles as if he were kidding (which, as it becomes clear, he is not) and continues to deep-throat his own foot:

Somebody's gotta stand up to her, and he can't let her get away with this stuff... I don't think we condone wife-beating these days, but something's gotta be done to make her—

"Not physically, of course," co-host Terry Meeuwsen tries to redirect before Robertson goes on to to diagnose this man's "rebellious" wife with some sort of weird pre-Oedipal, temper tantrum, "unwilling to submit to authority" type thing. "What do you do with that?"

You can't divorce her, according to the scripture. MOVE TO SAUDI ARABIA.

And then he swallowed.

maybe his wife doesn't respect him because it dawned on her that she married a man who watches Pat Robertson...

i wish they could pull his fucking program off the air, but seeing as it's essentially paid programming, idk how they would accomplish that.

the stupid Muslims beat their wives joke. calling a grown woman a child. suggesting that the husband should beat his wife even beyond the offensive Muslim joke. scoffing at the idea of psychological counseling for the husband and wife. there are so many things wrong with that video.

it's really a shame old Pat had an airtight contract drawn up that prohibits any owners of the Family Channel from canceling the 700 Club. this shit shouldn't be on any channel outside those horrible Christian stations.
carmy_w 11th-Sep-2012 03:17 am (UTC)
It runs on our local CBS channel. Think I need to start sending them some serious emails/letters/petitions....

Not this asshole again. Why is his program still on the fucking air?! There are so many things wrong in that video it is unbelievable that people believe the bullshit he is spewing.

Men fucking suck.
layweed 11th-Sep-2012 01:32 am (UTC)
Idk if I would even call Pat Robertson a "man". He's like that fucking slimy shit you get clinging to rocks. Boot scrapping. Fucking lower than dirt.

"in which horrible people ask other horrible people how to continue being horrible people"

That is an absolutely awesome way to describe it
greycoupon 11th-Sep-2012 02:12 am (UTC)
It's not a one off comment since he goes back to it at the end so he can't even claim he "misspoke".

I almost feel bad for the co-host there who tries to suggest professional counseling for the couple. (I can't imagine how they could have problems when the husband's #1 solutions to problems in the marriage is to ask a tv evangelist what to do.)
layweed 11th-Sep-2012 02:18 am (UTC)
Pat Robertson's got all the answers, he's in touch with God.
matryoshka 11th-Sep-2012 02:54 am (UTC)
If we all got a nickel for every time Pat Robertson said something awful and offensive, we'd be rolling in cash. Fuck that guy.
moonbladem 11th-Sep-2012 02:58 am (UTC)
Awww Pat Robertson longs for the good old days when men were the head of the household, and were obeyed unquestioningly by their wives or they'd get beaten up all over the place. Women were supposed to cook, clean, pop babies out, submit to the will of their husbands and shut the fuck up while doing all that.

So if we are to take Pat Robertson's attitude as the norm amongst right-wing, fundamentalist Christians, we are to believe that beating up women in order to control them and hence regain the upper hand, so men are the undeniable bosses, should be the way to go.

I swear, the more this man opens his mouth, the uglier the sewage that spews from it. What a vile, reprehensible, sad, sorry excuse for a human being.

I know it was tidied up and isn't a word-for-word account of life, but reading the Laura Ingalls books, you never, ever got the sense that Ma was a doormat.

I dunno where this sick compulsion to denigrate and deny and diminish women comes from in men, but it's disgusting.

I think hatred and black magic are keeping this man alive.

Along with whatever malevolent force it is that turns public bathrooms into jungles of toilet paper and terrible smells.
bluelarkspur 11th-Sep-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
If I were stuck married to a guy who thought he should be worshiped as the "head of the household", I wouldn't respect him either.

Advice that is for some reason not present: "Hey, maybe you should respect your wife."

With luck, neither Pat nor the Saudi regime will last much longer.
silver_apples 11th-Sep-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
Wow. I wish I could understand everything about a person's childhood and interpersonal relationships after a five-sentence description.
