One of the first!

I'm going to India in less than ten days. Who else has been? Who's specifically been to Kerala? And who has been to Istanbul airport?
psychesky 8th-Dec-2012 02:50 am (UTC)
Yay for long trips!!!!!

There are two airports in Istanbul, which are you going through? I've been in Ataturk, and I remember it being pretty easy to navigate.

What are you reading?

I'm in the middle of What Jane Austen Ate & Charles Dickens Knew by Daniel Pool.
wrestlingdog Re: BOOK THREAD8th-Dec-2012 02:56 am (UTC)
I'm rereading The Hobbit; I haven't read it since I was eleven or twelve. I also borrowed some comics from one of my flatmates (the first book of The Sandman, plus one of the Firefly spinoff comics). And I'm still working my way through Reaper Man.

(Though I really should just be reading for school, but I don't have the strength.)

edit, to make this comment less pointless, have a corgi in a hoodie :)

My 23 year old daughter, who had two seizures back in July, had another couple the other day, brought on by the flu. A couple months ago, she went to a clinic in town and the doctor there told her she should wean herself off of the Keppra until it was gone, and to call him if she had more seizures. The doctor at the emergency room was pissed that the clinic doctor took her off her meds without an EEG, and she got a prescription for a couple refills so we can get her on Medicare (Medicaid? I can never remember which one).

So now it's almost certain she's got epilepsy, so we have to go from there. It's good that we have a probably diagnosis, but it sucks she has to deal with it. If anyone knows anything about epilepsy, I'd be grateful for information. I've been searching the web, and went to epilepsy.com, but it's always good to have more info.

Anyway, that's been my week. Well, except for being able to tell the people next door that their three kids had lots of wrapped gifts over here thanks to the holiday wishes community on here. That was an awesome experience. They were so happy, because they were worried about their kids having a bummer Christmas this year like last year. And I'm happy I got to facilitate it. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and Christmas spirit-y!

Wow. Sorry about your daughter's epilepsy. My cousin has it. If you want me to relay questions to her, I can do that.

What a bummer about your daughter's clinic doc. Seems like a malpractice suit is in order.

So I'm taking a trip to Japan, and I want to learn Japanese so I don't stick out completely like a tourist. Which software is best to start with?
blackjedii 8th-Dec-2012 02:56 am (UTC)
idk about software but I picked up a LOT of phrases just from watching subbed Anime. Nothing that would really make me sound smart but I can do some very very basic conversation topics.

I'm so happy! Next week are finals. I need to study like a thing for my French Oral, but other that that. (Any good online guides on that sort of thing?)

I'm so happy that it's almost break. I get to read a mix of books that are boring and stuff I like. So happy over that.
clevermanka 8th-Dec-2012 04:45 am (UTC)
Good luck with finals!

I am spending my Friday evening trying to finish the first draft of my scientific paper I'm suppose to get out to this STI group I'm a part of for review & discussion on Tuesday.

It's shit. Whatever skill I developed for writing in undergrad, it's evaporated after 5 years.

Still playing Wii U.

Am incredibly amused that Iwata had to make a direct apology for the holdup because Nintendo is way behind on Animal Crossing orders because they had no idea the game would sell so well.

Also both laughing and crying that for some people the biggest issue is having to wait for Animal Crossing. Because we live in a weird world.

Happy Friday, you guys.

So, I love my job. I love the people I work with, it's chill and relaxed and simple.

But it's FILLED TO THE BRIM with the most disgusting, sexist shit I've ever seen in my life. I hate that I sell this shit to people, but lord knows I need the job.

It's Spencer's, btw.

I had my Peace Corps interview this Wednesday, I think it went well. It's PAPER SEASON AND FINALS SEASON and my brain is burnt out.

I just finished watching The Invisible War and _p, I want to punch things and/or get completely drunk now.
clevermanka 8th-Dec-2012 04:46 am (UTC)
Have a drink. Definitely.

I spent my day repairing and playing our very first computer (Commodore Amiga 500) and the nostalgia has been incredible. Monkey Island music blasting through through house all day, oh yes.

I'd like to get my cousin's son the Harry Potter books. Any places to get them cheap? I guess paperback would be cheaper than the hardback books, but I really like the hardback ones better. :-/ Also, is there anything really special about the box set? Just looking around a bit it seems like I could get them cheaper by buying them all separately, but if the box set is really cool I'll keep looking for that.
bluebombardier 8th-Dec-2012 03:12 am (UTC)
There's a box set of the hardcover books that comes in a school trunk, but that one's pretty pricey. Barnes & Noble has it here for $121.46.

Cheapest bet is to scout out all the used book stores in your area for clean hardcover and/or paperback copies.

I taught myself how to crochet this week! So far I've managed a pomegranate, a mangosteen, a cup of coffee, and a half dozen macarons, because the first macaron wound up looking like more of a whoopie pie than a proper macaron, so I tried something different on the next one, but it still wasn't quite right, so I kept making macarons until I managed one that passed muster. Given the difficulty of making proper macarons for eating, I suppose I really shouldn't be surprised at how difficult it is to crochet proper macarons for playing.

I was only supposed to make one tiny plaything a day as a sort of advent calendar challenge to myself, but instead I just hooked to my heart's content and stuffed everything with catnip.

I don't even have a cat.
