George Zimmerman volunteers as security guard at FL gun store. What could go wrong?

12:34 pm - 07/29/2014

George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer acquitted in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin, told police he was working night security at a Florida gun dealer after being discovered sitting in his truck outside the store after midnight Sunday evening.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Zimmerman was questioned in front of Pompano Pat’s, a retailer specializing in guns, ammunition, and motorcycles located in Deland.

Pompano Pat’s is owned by Pat Johnson, currently running for DeLand mayor.

According to Sgt. Chris Estes, “He said he had permission from Pat Johnson to do night security but our officers could not make contact with Pat Johnson to verify that so we did an information report.”

The police report states that Zimmerman told officers that Johnson asked him if he would leave his dog inside the business, following a recent burglary at the store.

Zimmerman said he stayed for the evening with his dog so he could keep an eye on the business, adding he would be doing night time security for an “indeterminate” time.

The gun sales manager at Pompano Pat’s said Zimmerman is not employed by the the shop.

“George Zimmerman is not an employee of the business and he is not getting paid in any way, shape or form by Pompano Pat’s,” Sam Porter said.

Porter claims he was aware that Zimmerman was outside the store Sunday evening but referred further questions to the owner.

Zimmerman was arrested by police 44 days after a public outcry following the shooting death of Martin, an African-American teen returning home in the dark after purchasing Skittles and iced tea at a local convenience store.

In July of 2013, a Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman of murder charges, believing Zimmerman was attacked by the teen and was in fear for his life.

Since that time, Zimmerman has had several run-ins with the law, including speeding tickets, threatening his now ex-wife and her father, and being charged with aggravated assault with a weapon after barricading himself in his girlfriend’s home. His girlfriend later withdrew the charge and dropped her request for a restraining order.

In late June, a Florida judge tossed out a libel lawsuit Zimmerman filed against NBC Universal, claiming they broadcast an edited phone call attempting to portray him as a racist.

OP: He's BAAAAAACK and on "voluntary" patrol. It isn't clear if he truly is working for the store's proprietor, although it doesn't seem that way according to what the manager has said on record.

Also, not sure where the dog is supposed to be. Is it with Zimmerman? Is it not with Zimmerman? Is it in the store? Is it in the car outside? Does the dog exist?

what a piece of crap

he needs to get over his whole obsession with security when he himself is the risk

Seriously. I don't mean that this excuses what he did in any way, but he does seem to have a fixation which is highly dangerous.

UGH he needs to give up and go waste away in some gutter.
nesmith 29th-Jul-2014 09:31 pm (UTC)
He just SO MUCH WANTS TO BE A BIG POWERFUL AUTHORITY WITH A GUN that no matter how many people tell him "NO" he's just gonna keep doing it.

stellar_kar 29th-Jul-2014 09:52 pm (UTC)
yeah it's pretty pathetic
nesmith 29th-Jul-2014 10:04 pm (UTC)
And the WORST thing is that I can see this playing out one of two ways--either he does what he did before and appoints himself The Law Round Here and things go bad yet AGAIN (and Mother of God please let it be his ass this time instead of someone else), or someone with the IQ of a potato actually goes ahead and gives him some kind of official duty or title and that tiny amount of power will go straight to that tiny dick of his (because God knows he has no brain to speak of) and he will end up shooting someone just to prove what a big fierce righteous lawman he is, and

Shit. It all goes to the same place.

It's only a matter of time before he kills somebody again.

Seriously. He can't not go looking for trouble or put himself in situations that create trouble. His actions since his acquittal really undermine the whole "he was just an upstanding citizen afeared of his life when this kid just attacked him out of nowhere" craptastic argument. I don't know how much more clear it can be that this is a man who WANTS confrontation and actively goes looking for it.

Eeyup. Now he's just pushin' and pushin' his luck because he thinks/knows he can get away with it, and it's either going to get someone else killed and/or get himself killed.
nesmith 30th-Jul-2014 02:14 am (UTC)
I sincerely and wholeheartedly hope it's the latter.
astridmyrna 30th-Jul-2014 02:20 am (UTC)
I'll drink to that. And laugh.

nesmith 30th-Jul-2014 02:35 am (UTC)
I mean, I'll take no pleasure in it, but if it's a situation where an innocent person doesn't get killed and he has to suffer the consequences of his own actions, I'll be satisfied with that kind of justice.

But yes, there would be a part of me that would totally be

moonshaz 30th-Jul-2014 07:11 pm (UTC)
Same here.

In fact, I think it would be rather deliciously ironic if he was killed by someone who claimed THEY were feeling threatened by him and "standing their ground".

And if that makes me a bad human being, so be it.
nesmith 30th-Jul-2014 07:36 pm (UTC)
If it does, then I'll be riding down to hell right next to you. I know that if I was being followed by someone like him I'd feel damn threatened.

If he ever gets kicked out of that job he could always come to Texas and be part of a citizen militia.
ladycyndra 30th-Jul-2014 02:17 am (UTC)
Shh don't give him that idea! We have enough idiots here as it is!
dissident 29th-Jul-2014 10:45 pm (UTC)
Just gotta smh when I think about all the racists supporting his ass temporarily because he shot a kid who's darker than him (he's Jewish/Latino IIRC). If he ever makes the mistake of shooting some Aryan looking person, he will be treated like the dirty mongrel that he would normally be seen as.

I am sure this store has liability insurance and Zimmerman, as security guard, is insurer dream come true.
shoujokakumei 30th-Jul-2014 02:02 am (UTC)
No way could this possibly go wrong...
very_veggie 31st-Jul-2014 08:34 pm (UTC)
So he was asked if his dog could stay inside the store to scare off a would-be burglar, and he decided he would sit outside (while his dog was inside, I guess?) & see if someone showed up? I doubt the store owner asked Zimmerman himself to "guard" the place, but I guess he didn't have anything better to do. Also, the report doesn't say if he was armed or not, but I bet he was.

I wish this guy would just go away.
