Limbaugh: I Was An Addict, And Democrats Are Like The Hobbits In That Movie

The Rush Limbaugh program is a very entertaining program, it’s true. This segment with a caller is funny enough when he’s explaining to her what an addiction is like, and how the liberals are all “addicted to power,” whereas he was merely addicted to a tasty opiate. But then, after an awkward few seconds of silence around the 4:00 mark, he asks, “Did you see the Lord of the Rings movies?” Amazing. “I don’t remember the name, the character we never saw, desperate to get his rings back? Zoron-Zoron, whatever his name was? He had an army, HE HAD AN ARMY… the guy was miserable, couldn’t get the rings back.” [Media Matters]

Gingrich Considers Suing Twitter For Ruining His Perfect Reputation

One of Washington’s “most influential Twitterers,” Newt Gingrich, and a failed RNC chair candidate, Saul Anuzis, are threatening to sue their favorite web-based application after noticing that one of its popular features can easily be abused to humiliate them. A pro-Employee Free Choice Act twat called “EFCANOW” has been tagging Gingrich and Anuzis to make them look like supporters of EFCA — they aren’t — which then alerts Gingrich’s 238,000 and Anuzis’ 8,000 followers to the EFCA’s message. Now they want to SUE because this is a LIE, on Twitter. This is hilarious. All of you active twats out there should follow Jason Linkins’ example and tag Gingrich with terrible things. “Join @newtgingrich for Nazi-themed gay child rape party @ his mom’s house,” etc. [The Hill, Huffington Post]

NEWT GINGRICH WILL NOT SUE TWITTER: But that doesn’t mean he can spell! “A false story was planted this morning about my sueing twitter. This is totally false and we have repudiated it with the media.” Jesus, this guy and Olbermann have some nerve. Can you famous people PLEASE stick to the false stories that have been reported about you? [Twitter]

New RNC Ad: Barack Obama’s Dog Purchased With Taxpayer Money

The RNC made a good decision here to hedge its incomprehensibility with a disclaimer in the first frame: “Political Satire.” So remember when you’re watching this ad: it’s just “Political Satire.” You cannot apply for an ObamaCard because there is no such thing. “Political Satire.” Speaking of credit cards, remember when all-but-one of these very Republicans voted to preserve the ObamaCard companies’ usurious practices today? Jim Cramer: Karl Marx was right, but Jon Stewart sucks, "one day he will answer for" treating me bad

Cramer is still smarting from the televised beat down he received from Jon Stewart. Cramer seemed conciliatory and apologetic on Jon's show. Afterwards he got resentful & butthurt, and the grudge continues to this day.

Oddly, Cramer also gives a shout-out to Karl Marx and blames "right-wing Republicans" for hurting the country!

Do you regret going on The Daily Show in the first place? —John Puterbaugh, Dekalb, Ill.

Cramer: No one wants to suffer a beat-down. No one wants to be humiliated or embarrassed. I was shocked at [host Jon Stewart's] behavior. I wish he knew about my background, and I wish he knew about a lot of things that I had done, because I think he would've thanked me instead of attacked me.

Leon Panetta's mission to stop Israel bombing Iranian nuclear plant

Leon Panetta's mission to stop Israel bombing Iranian nuclear plant

America’s spy chief was sent on a secret mission to Israel to warn its leaders not to launch a surprise attack on Iran without notifying the US Administration.

As Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, prepares to visit Washington, it emerged yesterday that Leon Panetta, the head of the CIA, went to Israel two weeks ago. He sought assurances from Mr Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, the Defence Minister, that their hawkish new Government would not attack Iran without alerting Washington.

Concerns have been rising that Mr Netanyahu could launch a strike on Tehran’s atomic programme, in the same way that Israel hit Saddam Hussein’s Osirak reactor in 1981. Israel has been preparing for such an eventuality. It has carried out long-distance manoeuvres and is due to hold its largest civil defence drills this summer. The country’s leaders reportedly told Mr Panetta that they did not “intend to surprise the US on Iran”.

Joe the Plumber: ‘Men kissing each other…it throws me off.’

Earlier this month, Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher told Christianity Today that calling gay people “queer” “is not like a slur” because homosexuality is “strange and unusual.” Speaking of his gay “friends,” he also said, “I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children.” Yesterday, a local ABC affiliate in Toledo, OH asked Wurzelbacher about his comment. “Men kissing each other…it throws me off,” he explained. “It’s not something I want around my family.” Later, while literally sitting in front of boxes containing numerous copies of his recently released book, Wurzelbacher said:
You gotta at least respect that I’m not sitting there trying to make a buck off my 15 minutes. Do I want to make some money? Absolutely but I’m going to do it the right way.
Not seeming to recognize the irony, immediately after making this statement, he then signed a copy of his book. While acknowledging that he hasn’t made as much money as he thought from the book, he said he thinks he has about a year left in the spotlight, adding, “I can also definitely see it from the other side where people are just like ‘Man just freakin go away!’” Watch it:

China to open first sex theme park

China to open first sex theme park
Love Land in Chongqing aims to address taboo and improve sex education but many residents see it as vulgar

Maybe it was the giant revolving model of a woman's legs and lower torso, clad only in an unflattering crimson thong, or perhaps it was the oversized replica of a set of genitals. Either way, many residents in the south-west city of Chongqing are not happy about the development of China's first sex theme park, which has been described as "vulgar" and inappropriate.

The park manager, Lu Xiaoqing, who was inspired by South Korea's popular sex theme park in Jeju, says that Love Land, due to open in October, will improve sex education and help adults enjoy a harmonious sex life. Inside, visitors will be able to view naked human sculptures, giant replicas of genitals and an exhibition about the history of sex and sexual practices in other countries.

The park will also offer sex technique workshops and advise on anti-Aids measures and using condoms properly.

"Sex is a taboo subject in China but people really need to have more access to information about it," Lu told the state newspaper China Daily.

"We are building the park for the good of the public. I have found that the majority of people support my idea, but I have to pay attention and not make the park look vulgar and nasty."

That Didn't Take Long: Insurance Industry Breaks Promise To President Obama

That Didn't Take Long: Insurance Industry Breaks Promise To President Obama

Just four days after standing next to President Obama and declaring their commitment to control health care costs to the tune of $2 trillion over 10 years, the insurance industry, drug and medical device makers, and hospital groups are backing off their promise:

Hospitals and insurance companies said Thursday that President Obama had substantially overstated their promise earlier this week to reduce the growth of health spending.

Mr. Obama invited health industry leaders to the White House on Monday to trumpet their cost-control commitments. But three days later, confusion swirled in Washington as the companies' trade associations raced to tamp down angst among members around the country.

Health care leaders who attended the meeting have a different interpretation. They say they agreed to slow health spending in a more gradual way and did not pledge specific year-by-year cuts.
"There's been a lot of misunderstanding that has caused a lot of consternation among our members," said Richard J. Umbdenstock, the president of the American Hospital Association. "I've spent the better part of the last three days trying to deal with it."

First, these groups are showing their true, dishonest colors. AHIP, the main insurance industry lobby group, sent out this press release from their fake grassroots campaign after the announcement:

James Dobson's Political Surrender

James Dobson's Political Surrender

Politically, James Dobson has surrendered. At least for the time being. Today, the Focus on the Family founder devotes his typically family-focused radio show to what he calls "the utter evil that's coming out of the United States Congress." He's referring to the hate crimes bill that recently passed the House.

That's not so unusual.

What's surprising is that Dobson tells his listeners that they're politically helpless:

I want to tell you up front that we're not going to ask you to do anything, to make a phone call or to write a letter or anything.

There is nothing you can do at this time about what is taking place because there is simply no limit to what the left can do at this time. Anything they want, they get and so we can't stop them.

We tried with [Health and Human Services Secretary] Kathleen Sebelius and sent thousands of phone calls and emails to the Senate and they didn't pay any attention to it because they don't have to
. And so what you can do is pray, pray for this great nation... As I see it, there is no other answer. There's no other answer, short term.
In an age of evangelical leaders like Rick Warren, Joel Hunter, and Richard Land, who've all expressed openness to working with the Obama administration, Dobson clings firmly to the culture war mentality: You're either with us or against us. He elaborates on why Christians are powerless as long as Democrats are in power:
I've been on the air for 32 years and I've never seen a time quite like this. It just illustrates what happens when we don't have what the Founding Fathers referred to as checks and balances, where the excesses of one party or one branch of government limit the reach of power hungry and self-serving people and keeps them form doing things that are harmful to the country. That's the way the system was designed. We have 2 major political parties in this country, not one. And bipartisanship is a media creation that's designed to promote one point of view instead of the debate that should occur. And that's why media doesn't talk about bipartisanship when conservatives are in power...

...[today] the radical left controls the executive branch through the president, and the Congress... and the Judiciary through the courts... now they control it all, including every department of government.
As a result, the legislation that should shock the nation, if people were paying attention, is being rushed into law.
Dobson made headlines earlier this year when he said that conservative Christians had entered their "most discouraging period" and that "humanly speaking, we can say that we have lost all those battles." He later explained that he meant that conservative Christians had lost many battles, but that the culture war was by no means over.

What's remarkable about today's broadcast is that Dobson plainly states that the only way for Christians to start winning again politically is for the GOP to regain power. He makes no effort to avoid coming across as a Republican activist. For a long time, Dobson went out of his way to keep up the appearance of being above partisan politics. As he enters what may be the twilight of his broadcasting career, he appears to care less and less about maintaining that image.

"Planet Money" Reporter Paints Elizabeth Warren As Agenda-Driven

"Planet Money" Reporter Paints Elizabeth Warren As Agenda-Driven

Yesterday, CJR's Ryan Chittum posted a blistering critique of NPR's Adam Davidson's attempt at an interview with TARP overseer Elizabeth Warren on "Planet Money," and, baby, it is a well-deserved dilly and a half! Chittum calls the interview "cringeworthy," a "disaster," and, most appropriately, a "dismal example of bubble thinking." If that last blast reminds you of comedienne Tina Fey's explication on "the bubble" -- the safe space from which the privileged and coddled project their incompetence without concern for consequences -- you couldn't be more right! Check out some of this nonsense!

As Chittum details (and you may listen to the entire interview here) the entire foundation of Davidson's exchange is that Warren is fueled entirely by populist animus and cannot be considered a fair arbiter from the point of view of bankers. Warren objects to this premise, saying, "I just think you're wrong. I'm somebody who believes in free markets. The American middle class is under assault... basically since the 70's... I'm not an advocate. i don't get paid for anything. I'm an empiricist. I'm data driven."

New Gallup Poll Shows More Americans Are Pro-Life Than Pro-Choice

A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves "pro-life" on the issue of abortion and 42% "pro-choice." This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.

The new results, obtained from Gallup's annual Values and Beliefs survey, represent a significant shift from a year ago, when 50% were pro-choice and 44% pro-life. Prior to now, the highest percentage identifying as pro-life was 46%, in both August 2001 and May 2002.

The May 2009 survey documents comparable changes in public views about the legality of abortion. In answer to a question providing three options for the extent to which abortion should be legal, about as many Americans now say the procedure should be illegal in all circumstances (23%) as say it should be legal under any circumstances (22%). This contrasts with the last four years, when Gallup found a strong tilt of public attitudes in favor of unrestricted abortion.

Glenn Beck Fails To Get GM CEO To Bash The United Auto Workers

Glenn Beck Fails To Get GM CEO To Bash The United Auto Workers

In an amazing interview on Thursday afternoon, Glenn Beck consistently attempted to goad recently-promoted GM CEO Fritz Henderson into bashing the automaker's partners: the United Auto Workers and the federal government. Throughout the interview, Henderson sat there and gamely deflected Beck's rants and calmly explained how his company works.

From the start, after praising the company and proudly describing his ownership of a Saturn, Beck lashed into the government and the unions, telling Henderson:

"You're now in bed with the federal government... What kind of nasty K-car are we going to be getting in the future?"

Henderson talked down Beck, telling him that the government was not GM's master, saying that "we're appreciative of the support we've gotten from the administration, starting with financing. Frankly, we wouldn't have made it had we not received the support."

Granted, Henderson is smart enough not to knock his federal benefactors - he added that the government has not been meddling in the automaker's business, such as their advertising budget.

When Beck claimed that the unions are "strangling" GM, Henderson shot him down:

"They've been more part of the solution than the problem... yes, we have significant legacy costs that we're trying to address. Frankly, they're trying to help us address those issues at the same time... I view the unions are more part of the solution than the problem. Me personally."

All Beck could say in response was, "Wow, OK."

Tea party leader/insane clown also major tax fraud, apparently.

Tea party leader/insane clown also major tax fraud, apparently

Well no wonder he doesn’t like taxes very much. According to documents obtained by Teablogging by running a goddamned simple Nexis search on the internets, national Tea Party organizer, Top Conservatives on Twitter cofounder and publisher Michael P. Leahy has, over the past 16 years, amassed nearly $150,000 in state and federal tax liens, small claims court judgments and civil suits.

It’s an open secret among teabaggers and elsewhere that Leahy is a delusional, profiteeringcreep and, potentially, a member of some alien race of Lizard People here to feed on the human race, for freedom. You might have heard of Leahy during the Great TCOT Civil War hilarious catfight of 2009, when he basically threw a bitch fit on the internet because TCOT cofounder and reasonable adult Rob Neppell wouldn’t let him be the supreme boss of everything which was, like, TOTALLY UNFAIR. You will find that this is something of a recurring theme with Leahy.

So anyway, megalomaniac? Check. Self-defeating hack? Check. Lizard Person? Definitely check. And now, yes, apparently massive tax fraud? Check and check.

Seriously, does Leahy have naked pictures of other teaparty leaders that they continue to associate with this no-talent fartsack? Actually, no, please don’t answer that.

Whatever. If this slapstick band of unintentionally hilarious fuckups wants to join Leahy in committing collective suicide in front of everybody, live, on the internet, they can go right on ahead. I just wouldn’t lend him any money.

Take a look at our source docs here (pdf)

*In an uncharacteristic act of actual journalism, contacted Mr. Leahy prior to the publication of this post. He thanked us for the heads up (and chided us for using dirty words) but didn’t offer any further comment. Boo-yah.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele is teaming up with Rep. Michele Bachmann, asking Republicans for their help blocking public funding for ACORN, the progressive community organizing group.

Bachmann is sponsoring an amendment that would block some $8.5 billion from being made available to the organization, according to a fundraising email from Steele. The group was a frequent target of Republicans during the 2008 election for its voter registration efforts.

"Over $50 million in federal funding money has found its way into the hands of ACORN's leftist activists over the last several years, but now the Democrats are about to make $8.5 billion more in tax-payer funds available to this radical group," Steele wrote to supporters.

Who me ?

Nancy Pelosi claims she was lied to by the CIA...

In her first public comments on the matter since an intelligence report contradicted her recollections, Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters today that she was never told about the fact that waterboarding had been used on a terrorist suspect, even though terrorist suspect Abu Zubaydah had been waterboarded a month before she was briefed on the subject in Sept. 2002.

“The only mention of waterboarding at that briefing was that it was not being employed,” Pelosi said, reading from a prepared statement. “Those briefing me in Sept. 2002 gave me inaccurate and incomplete information.”

By all means , bring on the hearings. This should prove interesting.

Adam Carolla doesn't buy the "spoon fed" lies about gay parents.

On the May 11 broadcast of the syndicated radio show Loveline, guest co-host Adam Carolla digressed from a caller’s question into a bizarre and misinformed rant on his perceived inferiority of same-sex parents.

CAROLLA: We just get it spoon-fed to us [that] everything’s great, everything’s perfect, there’s no difference between, you know a couple of dads, a couple of moms, couple of bis and a couple of pre-op transsexuals, and a mom and a dad…no difference. Now look, I’m all for gays adopting but let’s not mistake it for being nearly as good as a mother and a father. It’s not nearly as good as a mommy and a daddy… all things being equal, it is much better for a mother and a father to raise a child than it is two of anything, all things being equal.

Listen to the clip:

It’s unfortunate that Carolla misused his platform to spread misconceptions about gay and lesbian families. Virtually every credible authority on child health and social services (including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Child Welfare League of America) has determined that a parent’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with the ability to be a good parent. Kids of gay parents are just as healthy and well-adjusted as other children.

As a show popular with young people seeking love advice, it is Loveline’s responsibility to present their listeners with informed opinions. Tonight is Carolla’s last night as guest co-host. We urge you to contact Loveline and voice your concerns.

Uruguay decides to have more human rights for gays than the US

Uruguay has lifted a ban on homosexuals joining the armed forces.

The decree signed by President Tabare Vazquez and Defense Minister Jose Bayardi lifts the ban imposed by the 1973-85 military dictatorship.

The decree was published Friday on the presidential Web site and states that sexual orientation will no longer be considered a reason to prevent people from entering the military.

Vazquez said the "state does not discriminate against citizens for their political view or for their sexual choice" during a visit Thursday to the Paraguayan capital of Asuncion.

The law had included homosexuality among the "mental illnesses and disorders" that make a person unsuitable to join the armed forces.

GOP Base Rejects Pro-Choice Republicans: "We Would Never Bend On That"

House Republicans, in search of an identity, are playing with fire.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), in charge of recruiting Republican candidates for the House, told Bloomberg that the party is searching for people who are "ethnically diverse, female, less partisan and even supportive of abortion rights."

Pro-life organizations have another word for such candidates -- pro-abortion -- and they're not happy to have them in the GOP tent.
The Huffington Post didn't have to look far to find conservative groups threatening revolt over the move.

"I think it's dumb," said Joseph M. Scheidler, founder and head of the Pro-Life Action League. "If they start supporting pro-choice -- or pro-abortion -- candidates, they're going to really rile up their conservative base. We don't want pro-choice Republicans or Democrats, because we're issue-oriented, not party-oriented. We'd just as well have our own party."

Peru Demands Gay Cops Never, Ever Have Sex

Just as we're celebrating one gay rights victory in South America comes this piece of news: Peru is kicking out gay cops because they "damage the image" of the force.

Only "scandalous" gay sex, and not merely being gay, will get you kicked out of the police squad according to the new law which took effect this week. Which totally gets around a little thing called "unconstitutional"! AP:

In sexual matters, however, distinctions are made between heterosexual and homosexual police officers. Those who commit adultery only face suspension, but expulsion is required for those who engage in "sexual relations with people of the same sex that cause a scandal or damage the image of the institution."

Peru's Supreme Court in 2004 overturned a ban on homosexuality in the police and military. But like the U.S. military's "don't ask, don't tell policy" - which bans homosexuals from disclosing their sexual orientation - the new law tries to sidestep the issue without banning homosexuality outright.

"The only thing that is penalized now are the scandals that can be caused by a scandalous relationship, if they are homosexuals," Interior Ministry spokesman Fransisco Ugarteche said Thursday.

Straight cops who cheat on their wives and frequent strip clubs, however, commit no such scandalous act.

43 stun-gunned at prisons' Take Your Kids to Work Day

TALLAHASSEE -- A total of 43 children were directly and indirectly shocked by electric stun guns during simultaneous ''Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day'' events gone wrong at three state prisons, according to new information provided Friday by the Florida Department of Corrections.

Also, a group of kids was exposed to tear gas during a demonstration at another lockup.

Three prison guards have been fired, two have resigned and 16 more employees -- from corrections officers to a warden -- will be disciplined due to the incidents that unfolded April 23, said DOC Secretary Walt McNeil. An investigation is ongoing.

None of the children in any of the incidents required medical attention or was notably harmed, McNeil said. He said the children, who ranged in age from 5 to 17, were all children of prison officials.

In nearly every case, the guards had permission from parents or grandparents to administer the ''electronic immobilization devices,'' McNeil said.

''I can't imagine what these officers were thinking to administer this device to children, nor can I imagine why any parent would allow them to do so,'' McNeil said. ``This must not happen again.''

McNeil called the episode ''embarrassing'' for the nation's fourth-largest prison system. It has been rocked by far more serious scandal.

Right Wing Radio Host: Perez Hilton = Vile Sodomite & Rachel Maddow = Little Boy

Andrew Wilkow, the guest host for the highly rated right-wing "Mark Levin Show", went on a tirade Tuesday night against Democrats. While it shouldn't be a surprise that a right-wing talk host would slam Democrats, Wilkow's tirade was particularly nasty. He aimed his darts at everyone from Rachel Maddow to Perez Hilton. Wilkow called Maddow a "nice little boy" and Perez was referred to as a "vile sodomite". He even went after White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

At least Wilkow proved himself out of step with certain GOP thinking. The chief recruiter for House Republicans, California Representative Kevin McCarthy, told Bloomberg news recently that Emanuel's strategies are an inspiration for the GOP's plan to win back power in 2010.

Read the partial transcript from Salon and listen to the audio here:

"Perez Hilton, who I am now terming a vile sodomite . . . yeah, Perez, you're a vile sodomite - doesn't that word have a ring to it - sodomite -- and vile - vile sodomite - it just sounds so good to hear in my headphones - vile sodomite . . . . Huntsman to accept ambassadorship to China

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. will resign from office to accept a nomination to become the ambassador to China.

Sources tell The Salt Lake Tribune that an announcement is scheduled for Saturday. Huntsman is in Washington, D.C., but calls to his spokeswoman and various staffers were not returned Friday night.

Huntsman, who had been mentioned as a potential Republican contender for the White House, has previously served as the Deputy United States Trade Representative and was the ambassador Singapore. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and he and his wife, Mary Kaye, have adopted a daughter from China.

Huntsman had been scheduled to travel to China next week as part of a delegation of Western governors visiting the nation to discuss climate change, alternative energy and clean air technologies.

That trip was canceled due to concerns by some of the governors over the swine flu outbreak.

Huntsman will be replaced by Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert. Contacted Friday evening, Joe Demma, Herbert's chief of staff, said neither he nor the lieutenant governor knew anything about any Huntsman appointment.

Census Nominee Tries to Ease Republican Senators’ Fears on 2010 Count

Published: May 15, 2009

WASHINGTON — President Obama’s nominee to lead the Census Bureau told senators at a confirmation hearing Friday that he would not seek to use statistical sampling in the 2010 census.

Many experts say that sampling will be more accurate than an actual count because millions of people are missed or refuse to be counted. Studies have found those missed are far more likely to be poor and ethnic or racial minority Americans in urban areas. Counting them is likely to favor Democrats.

Many Republicans remain concerned that the Obama administration will try to adopt sampling as part of the census count.
