Fox News is butthurt because Obama doesn't like them

Snubbed By Obama, Fox News's Chris Wallace Calls White House "Biggest Bunch Of Crybabies I've Ever Seen"

On Friday night, "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace was a guest on Bill O'Reilly to complain about President Obama's decision to skip Fox News when he makes the rounds of the Sunday news programs to push health care reform.

Ironically, Wallace was the one to accuse the Obama administration of "childishness," saying: "They are the biggest bunch of crybabies I have dealt with in my 30 years in Washington."

Wallace expressed surprise that the administration chose a Spanish-language network ("Univision!") over Fox News and looked back fondly on his treatment by the Reagan administration.

Doctors Demand Climate Change Action to Avert “Global Health Catastrophe”

By Kim Knowlton

As Congress continues to grapple with health care reform this week, heads of state meet at a UN summit to face the challenge of climate change in preparation for a December conference in Copenhagen. Given the dire health consequences of global warming noted by the author, success at the UN could rein in health care costs in the long run, while taking a giant step toward a healthier world.

Arctic trail blazers make history !

Two German ships have become the first Western commercial vessels to navigate the Northeast Passage - a shipping route which goes from Asia to Europe around the Russian Arctic.

One of the captains told the BBC that their journey opened new, exciting possibilities for the whole international shipping community.

Valeriy Durov, shipmaster of The Beluga Foresight, is your archetypal captain: a short man with a big moustache and a sense of great authority in his voice.

"I was slightly surprised by what we saw," he told us as we stood on the bridge of his cargo lifter.

"There was virtually no ice on most of the route. Twenty years ago, when I worked in the eastern part of the Arctic, I couldn't even imagine something like this.

"I think it will soon be possible to navigate the Northeast Passage all year round. We were escorted by an ice-breaker but, frankly, we could have done without it. This is great news for our industry."

Mr Durov's ship had just arrived in Archangel, a major sea port in north-western Russia. It was met by a cold, unpleasant drizzle and grey autumnal skies...

Nice video at the link (that won't embed)

- so if you are looking to invest you might take a look at construction bonds for the port of Archangel ! (I think business will suffer for the Suez)

Also as requested in the previous post a link to new Viking settlements discovered due to the warming of the arctic.

Michael Schwartz: "Homosexuality Is Inflicted On People... All Pornography Is Homosexual Pornography" (VIDEO)

Think Progress had someone videotaping at the Family Research Council's "Values Voters Summit" and they caught Michael Schwartz, the chief of staff for Republican Senator Tom Coburn, saying some bizarre things about homosexuality and pornography. During a panel discussion on "The New Masculinity", Schwartz denounced pornography as a "blight" and a "silent disease" before stating that it causes young boys to become homosexuals.

Homosexuality is inflicted on people... But all pornography is homosexual pornography because all pornography turns your sexual drive inwards. And that in fact is what it does. I know couples now who are struggling with the husband's addiction to pornography. It's a terrible thing. And that's what happens. And, you know, if it doesn't turn you homosexual, it at least renders you less capable of loving your wife. And it's something you need to be healed of.

Watch Schwartz's remarks below, and visit Think Progress for more on Schwartz's homophobic history.

Obamacare Will Cover Black People Only. Being White/GOP/Racist a Pre-existing Condition...

Senate GOP Mailer Suggests Dem Health Care System Will Discriminate By Race

Senate Republicans are mailing out a "survey" insinuating that the president's health care reform agenda includes the creation of a lottery system to determine who gets medical treatment and a quota system that based on race and age.

Written under the vague and non-partisan title of "U.S. Senate Health Care Task Force," the mailing, which includes a fundraising letter, was commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee and passed to the Huffington Post by a Democratic source. It asks recipients to respond to several misleading questions, including:

Are you concerned that health care rationing could lead to:

23. Denial of treatment in cases where the patient's prospects are deemed not good?
24. A "lottery" system of determining who will get priority treatment?
25. A "quota" system which would determine who would determine who would get treatment on the basis of race or age?

The mailer also suggests that the legislative proposals being considered by Congress would give the federal government the power to:

• Pick who is "eligible" for certain medical procedures? • Pick your doctor for you? • Restrict certain medical procedures on the basis of age? • Put strict price controls on medicine and drugs? • Penalize you for choosing to see a private doctor • Seriously undermine private health care insurers who currently serve tens of millions of Americans?

Here is the survey:

Republican Roy Blunt Tells a Joke: Monkeys Dont Know How to Play Golf.

Roy Blunt (R-MO) Tells Racism-Tinged Monkey Joke at DC Conference

"He is now the second highest ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is a very important committee on the health care issue," Family Research Council head Tony Perkins introduced Congressman Roy Blunt (R-MO) before a crowd of roughly 2,000 at the Family Research Council Action's 2009 Values Voter Summit last Friday. Taking the podium, Blunt repaid the favor, enthusing, "I really appreciate Tony Perkins coming and introducing me himself. He is one of my great friends."

"This is an opportunity for us," Blunt told his predominantly white audience, "this is a time for us to be more of who we should be."

Congressman Blunt then went on to tell an anecdote which suggested that life in Washington, for GOP members today, is comparable to the lot of imperial British agents in India who had to contend with monkeys running amok on a golf course that the colonial occupiers had carved out of the verdant Indian jungle. There was a problem, the Missouri Representative explained; monkeys would come out of the jungle, grab golf balls, and throw them about. Amidst swelling laughter from his audience Roy Blunt narrated,

"I could go into great and long detail about how many things they did to try and eliminate the 'monkey problem.' But they never got it done, so finally this golf course and this golf course only, they passed a rule and the rule was - you have to play the ball where the monkey throws it. [audience laughter swells] And that is the rule in Washington all the time."

It seemed like a direct window into the psyche of the revanchist wing of the GOP; politics is a golf game and unruly Democrat "monkeys" have swarmed out of the jungle to disrupt the play. Since it is impractical to "eliminate" the monkeys, accommodations will have to be made. Republicans will now "play the ball where the monkey throws it."

Beck: For the Bailout before he was agin' it.

Much of Fox News host Glenn Beck’s appeal is his populist, anti-government rhetoric, which gained extra traction during the federal government’s financial bailouts. “Wall Street owns our government,” Beck declared in July. “Our government and these gigantic corporations have merged.” A couple of weeks later, he “mockingly replaced the stars on the American flag with the logos of corporate giants like G.E., General Motors, Wal-Mart and Citigroup.” But the blog Another War of Jenkins’ Ear points out that Beck — while appearing on CNN Headline News — actually voiced his support for President Bush’s $700 billion bailout:

But these are anything but normal times. I thought about it an awful lot this weekend, and while it takes everything in me to say this, I think the bailout is the right thing do.

The “REAL STORY” is the $700 billion that you’re hearing about now is not only, I believe, necessary, it is also not nearly enough, and all of the weasels in Washington know it.

Republic Windows CEO charged in plot to loot the company
Factory was site of sit-in by union workers fired just before Christmas

By Annie Sweeney and Matthew Walberg
Tribune Reporters

September 11, 2009

After Republic Windows and Doors abruptly shuttered its North Side plant last winter, some of the 200 union workers who lost their jobs peacefully refused to leave for several days, demanding wages they'd earned and becoming a national symbol of the economic crisis.

On Thursday Cook County prosecutors made a startling allegation: The sudden plant closing was all part of a monthslong plot by the head of Republic Windows to loot the business, steal key manufacturing equipment and set up a new operation in Iowa.

After a judge hit former chief executive officer Richard Gillman with a whopping $10 million bail, he was led away to Cook County Jail while wearing a pin-striped suit, white collared-shirt and a dazed expression.

Prosecutors laid out their case in an unusually detailed 56-page filing. Gillman and two other undisclosed executives abandoned Republic Windows' crushing debt, stole its assets and secretly trucked the equipment from the plant to the new operation in Red Oak, Iowa, the charges alleged.

But that operation failed, too, just a month and a half after it started, leaving hundreds of employees from both Chicago and Iowa out of work and devastated.

All told, Gillman and the others defrauded company creditors who were owed at least $10 million and stole more than $200,000 cash from Republic Windows, prosecutors alleged.

Kicked to death in a filthy toilet

An Iraqi hotel worker beaten to death by British soldiers screamed that he feared he would die while being tortured, the inquiry into his killing has heard.

Twenty-six-year-old Baha Mousa was arrested along with a number of other civilians by soldiers of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment in Basra in 2003.

All those detained were subjected to brutal and vicious abuse from British troops and were kicked and beaten repeatedly and subjected to sensory deprivation techniques.

When Mr Mousa's body was released, he was found to have suffered 93 separate injuries after being tortured to death over a 36-hour period on the floor of a filthy toilet at a temporary holding facility.

In his opening address to the inquiry, Rabinder Singh QC, representing Mr Mousa's family, said: "Baha was a human being, yet to his guards he was known as 'fat boy' or 'fat bastard'."

Prior to the summer recess, the inquiry had seen graphic video footage of hooded and bound prisoners being beaten and abused by Corporal Donald Payne of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.

It also heard of an abhorrent practice known as "the choir" in which detainees were beaten in turn to force them to emit sounds in a grotesque parody of a musical scale.

Mr Singh read out a harrowing statement from one of the other detainees, D002, who described what were probably Mr Mousa's last moments.

"During the evening of the second day, I heard Baha Mousa screaming: 'Oh my God, I'm going to die, I'm going to die. Leave me alone. Please leave me alone for five minutes'," the witness recalled.

The use of hooding and other torture techniques were banned under the Geneva Convention and outlawed by the Heath government in 1972 following the use of sensory deprivation techniques during internment in Northern Ireland.

However, Mr Singh queried on Monday whether in fact the use of such techniques had ever ceased.

He said: "In 2003, the so-called 'conditioning' techniques were used in Iraq on civilians in the name of the people of Britain. Stress positions, hooding, sleep deprivation, food deprivation and noise all came back. Perhaps they never went away."

Mr Singh pointed out that none of those detained had been charged with any offence.

"This was not on any view the sort of 'ticking-bomb' scenario that apologists for torture usually imagine," he stated.

"There is a path which leads from such clinical musings in ivory towers to a man dying in a filthy latrine in Iraq."

He added: "It is important not to fall into the trap of thinking that this case was simply one of indiscipline. This case is not just about beatings or a few bad apples. There is something rotten in the whole barrel."

Solicitor for the detainees Phil Shiner said the responsibility for Mr Mousa's death rested at the highest level.

He said the inquiry must establish "how it came about that senior politicians, civil servants, lawyers and senior military personnel knew - or ought to have known - that British soldiers and interrogators were using coercive interrogation techniques in Iraq and thought these were permittable and lawful."

Mr Mousa's father, a colonel in the Iraqi police, is due to give evidence to the inquiry on Wednesday.

Zelaya returns to Honduras

(CNN) -- Ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya returned Monday to the capital city of Honduras, where he said he is planning to meet with his critics to arrange for his return to power.

"I have never seen the sky so blue and beautiful," he told CNN en Español in a telephone call from the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

It was Zelaya's first view of the city since June 28, when he was awakened by soldiers who then put him, still in his pajamas, on a plane out of the country.

"I have returned so that dialogue can carry on in my own land and in my own city," he said. "I hope that in the next few hours we'll be able to communicate with the coup plotters."

"For the moment, thanks to [Brazilian] President [Luiz Inacio] Lula, ... we have protection here."

Zelaya called on the armed forces to allow the matter to be resolved through dialogue. "They're members of the pueblo," he said. "We look for immediate dialogue. ... Our position is peaceful, it always has been."

He said thousands of people had taken to the streets of the city in support of his return.

Zelaya said he spent Sunday night in Guatemala, and that his trip to Tegucigalpa took more than 15 hours. "There was a lot of security and roadblocks," he said. "There is a lot of persecution, a lot of fear in our country."

In a written statement, the secretary general of the Organization for American States, Jose Miguel Insulza, confirmed Zelaya's presence in the embassy and called on "the actors involved in this process" to be calm.

OMFG, I'm nervous. And right when Lula is in the US for the G20 summit and the UN general assembly. Anyway, Chávez already talked to him live on TV and the Brazilian authorities claim Zelaya got there on his own. A bunch of people are outside the Brazilian embassy and there's a curfew (what else is new).

Update: catching up with things. Seems like the interim government was denying Zelaya is back (and blocking any media showing him) but now they are urging Brazil to turn him over. Nobody is supposed to be on the streets after 4pm but there are thousands of people outside the embassy.

Putin hangs out with the big cats: Snow leopards

Once again, Vladimir Putin is hanging out with the big cats.

The Russian prime minister supervised the release of two snow leopards into a wildlife sanctuary near the southern resort of Sochi, fulfilling a pledge he made before Russia won the right to host the 2014 Olympic Games.

The male snow leopards imported from Turkmenistan were freed Saturday as Putin, the International Olympic Committee's Jean-Claude Killy and IOC executive director Gilbert Felli looked on, the IOC said Monday. Plans call for females to be introduced later and a breeding program begun.

Putin had pledged to reintroduce the big cats to the Caucasus if Russia won the 2014 Winter Olympic games, the IOC said. Russia was awarded the games in July 2007.

Snow leopards are extinct in the Caucasus, the IOC said, although they survive in the mountains of Central Asia.

Russian officials hailed move as evidence of their commitment to improving the region's environment. Critics of the games have said the construction of Olympic venues would damage the fragile ecosystems of Russia's mountainous Black Sea coastline.

It wasn't the first time Russia's premier has tangled with big cats. Putin shot a rare Ussuri tiger with a tranquilizer dart in Russia's Far East in August 2008 before fitting it with a tracking collar.

In October 2008, he received a Ussuri cub as a birthday gift and said he would find it a home in a zoo or a preserve.

Oh this ought to be special.

Sense & Sexuality is a new website (launched today!) by the anti-feminist organization Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute - you may remember them from when they tried to shut down The Vagina Monologues and bring back the hope chest. They also were in our top ten anti-feminists videos!

The site says its a project of the organization's "Center for Women's Health and Sexuality" - though as far as I can tell, no such center exists outside of the website, and all of the content is based on Grossman's work. Specifically, its a spin-off of the booklet Grossman wrote for the organization last year. Remember? It's the one that told us in pink cursive that "the rectum is an exit, not an entrance." (In fact, they already have a blog post dedicated to the topic!)

I think I can safely say this is the biggest piece of crap website on sex I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot. Between the straight up lies and scare tactics (you can get STDs from mutual masturbation, apparently), the sexism, and the hearts making up the DNA strand on the homepage (cause women are just made for love, not sex) - I don't even know where to start.

Well, maybe I do. From the site's "facts" section...

Why girls feel used after hooking up (seriously): "Girls expect emotional involvement almost twice as often as guys; 34% hope "a relationship might evolve." Guys, more than girls, are in part motivated by hopes of improving their social reputation, or of bragging about their exploits to friends the next day."

Why dudes you sleep with won't remember your name: "When it comes to sex, oxytocin, like alcohol, turns red lights green. It plays a major role in what's called "the biochemistry of attachment." Because of it, you could develop feelings for a guy whose last intention is to bond with you. You might think of him all day, but he can't remember your name."

Why young women should put off education and get knocked up as soon as possible: "[T]ypically a student who always put career first, and is finally getting a Ph.D. at 38 or 40. She's thrilled to reach that milestone, but aches for another: to feel a new life inside her, to give birth."

There's even a section on beer goggles. (How scientific!) Oh and if you're looking for resources, you're in for a treat of Grossman's books, articles, and videos. Activism? Have Grossman speak on your campus! Or you can visit their blog, where all you need to know is indicated in the first blog entry's tags: hookup, regret.

Why not just call it Shame & Sexuality and get it over with?

Hate crime being twisted as "vigilante justice"

DJ Bell has been charged with 2 counts of "attempted kidnapping".  The problem with this??
There was no crime committed
-- except for the crime AGAINST him and his partner, Dan.

From the website:

On the morning of July 4, 2008 David James Bell and Dan Fair were victims of hate in their own home.
The State of Utah has not pressed charges against their known and ADMITTED assailants.

Instead charges were filed against David James (DJ) and he is facing a MINIMUM of 30 years in prison.

*FACT: It was nearly six in the morning and DJ had been at a party with the family (with the kids present) all night.

*FACT: Dan was asleep in his bed the whole evening, he woke up and was trying to keep an angry mob of drunk men from breaking into his home.

Dan and DJ were brutally attacked in their own home.  Homophobic comments accompanied each blow.

The words "FAGGOT," "FAG," "COCK-SUCKER," and "QUEER," were mingled between statements full of hate.

The police arrived - found two gay men beaten, accused of kidnapping, and only streets away from a recent child homicide.

They didn’t ask questions, they didn’t interview their friends who were in the house. They arrested DJ, and charged him with two counts of attempted kidnapping. No charges were brought against their assailants.

Assumptions were made, justice not served, investigations not conducted – because who wouldn’t believe two gay men did this!

After DJ was arrested and Dan taken to the hospital a friend of theirs was yelled at by a member of the assaulting party, "we hope your friend dies, and if he doesn't we're going to come back and finish the job!" in the presence of two officers. When their friend asked the officers, "Are you hearing this? Are you going to do anything about it?" they replied with a shrug and walked away.

If you live in the area show up at the courthouse (info here), tell your friends, spread the word.  You can also make secure online donations.

PETA pies Ronald McDonald

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and McDonald's have never been on the coziest of terms, considering the latter is responsible for the deaths of countless animals for hamburgers and McNuggets each year. But with PETA's recent moves, designed to draw attention to what it says is inherent cruelty related to McDonald's methods for slaughtering chickens, the relationship between the animal-rights group and the fast-food giant has become downright frosty.

Since PETA's latest fight is on behalf of the animals that become those McNuggets, it's somewhat appropriate that an enraged "chicken" (albeit one wearing an off-puttingly happy grin) was the one wielding the pie that caught Ronald McDonald in the face during an appearance at the city's South San Francisco Day in the Park event over the weekend.

The pie-in-the-face gag (it was vegan custard, containing no eggs or dairy products, in case you were wondering) is just the most recent tactic in animal activists' war against the method of chicken slaughter commonly referred to as electric immobilization or electric stunning. Earlier this year, PETA used other stunts to draw attention to the practice, including passing out "Unhappy Meals" -- which included a rubber chicken stained with fake blood, a paper cutout showing Ronald McDonald wielding a bloody knife and a T-shirt bearing the logo "McCruelty" -- to would-be McDonald's customers and enlisting rock icon Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders to be the spokesperson for its "I'm Hatin' It" campaign.

Gov. Perry: "OMG Texas Is in a Recession!! Is Obama's Fault!!!! Please Send Monies!!"

After First Laughing Off Recession, Gov. Perry Admits ‘This Whole Country’s In A Recession’

Just a couple days after Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) touted that his state was “recession proof” and callously suggested that Texas wasn’t even in a recession, Perry changed his tune in an interview with ThinkProgress at this weekend’s Value Voters Summit.

On Saturday, Perry acknowledged that Texas has been “absolutely” impacted by a recession that plagues the whole country and accuses Washington of pushing his state farther into it:

This whole country’s in a recession. You don’t lose the number of jobs that we’ve lost in this country — and Texas has been impacted too. But, there’s no doubt that the impact is substantially less on Texas because of the policies that we’ve put in place. You better believe it — every family, every person who’s lost a job is a reflection of some policy, generally speaking policies that have come out of Washington, DC…

But you ask any people in the country which state would you rather economically be in than any other one, they rather be in Texas.
We balanced our budget, we gave 40,000 small businesses a tax cut and we’re working towards having 9 billion dollars in our rainy day fund. In anybody’s estimation, that’s good economic policy that’s been put in place.
Are we worried about what Washington’s doing and the impact that it’s having on the state of Texas and the recession that it’s pushing Texas farther into? Absolutely.

Watch it:

Perry admitted that Texas has been “shedding jobs” in the oil and gas industries and pins the blame on federal decision-makers.
And while he considered rejecting “burden[some]” stimulus money and continues slamming Washington’s response to the recession, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Texas was only able to balance its budget and pad its rainy day fund because of “an infusion of about $12.1 billion in [federal] stimulus funds” which “saved the day.”

"Birther" Soldier Fires Orly Taitz, Declares Her Insane and May File Bar Complaint

Connie Rhodes "Birther" Challenge Thrown Out, Taitz Scolded

UPDATE: The Army captain who challenged President Obama's birth certificate in court is renouncing her former lawyer, Orly Taitz. Capt. Connie Rhodes wrote to the judge her in case that she did not authorize the emergency request for stay of deployment that Taitz filed on her behalf.

"I did not authorize it and do not wish to proceed," Rhodes wrote. "Ms. Taitz never requested my permission nor did I give it." She added that she plans to file a bar complaint against Taitz herself for "her reprehensible and unprofessional actions."

The Washington Independent has the full letter.

Taitz told Talking Points Memo she thinks the letter is a forgery. (LOL!!!! SHE THINKS HER CLIENT'S LETTER IS A FOREGERY!!! BRB!!!)

* * * * *

U.S. District Court Judge Clay Land has thrown out a complaint questioning the president's birth from an Army captain fighting deployment to Iraq and
gave a warning to her lawyer, birther maven Orly Taitz.
Land also put attorney Orly Taitz, who represents Capt. Connie Rhodes and is a leader in the national "birther" movement, on notice by stating that she could face sanctions if she ever files a similar "frivolous" lawsuit in his court.

"(Rhodes) has presented no credible evidence and has made no reliable factual allegations to support her unsubstantiated, conclusory allegations and conjecture that President Obama is ineligible to serve as president of the United States," Land states in his order. "Instead, she uses her complaint as a platform for spouting political rhetoric, such as her claims that the president is 'an illegal usurper, an unlawful pretender, [and] an unqualified imposter.'"

In an interview with Talking Points Memo, Taitz said she would keep fighting if Rhodes wanted to, despite the judge's threat. "Listen, Nelson Mandela stayed in prison for years in order to get to the truth and justice," she said.

In his order, the judge noted that Rhodes had objected only to deployment to Iraq under President Obama, not to serving in the military generally.

Rhodes is not the first soldier to object to overseas deployment on the grounds that Obama is not a legitimate president. Stefan Frederick Cook, a reserve soldier who volunteered for an active duty tour, argued that he should not have to go to Afghanistan for similar reasons to Rhodes. The army revoked his deployment orders.

Read Land's full court order here.
