More E, vicar? Reverend to take ecstasy on TV for controversial drugs documentary.

Channel 4 are believed to have already filmed the drug taking, with Lionel Shriver and Keith Allen also taking part.

A female vicar is set to spark outrage by taking ecstasy on a controversial new Channel 4 programme about drugs.

The working minister will be joined in the experiment by award-winning author Lionel Shriver who penned bestseller We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Others who will take 83mg of MDMA, the pure form of ecstasy, include a former MP, an ex-SAS soldier and actor Keith Allen.

The volunteers will also be given a placebo – fake drugs – as well as the real thing so they don’t actually know when they have taken ecstasy.

Guatemalan mom loses son to US couple

Tug-of-Love: Immigrant Mom Loses Effort to Regain Son Given to US Parents

By BRIAN ROSS and ANGELA M. HILL | ABC News

In a controversial case that involved the rights of illegal immigrants and their young children, a Guatemalan mother lost her effort today to get back the five-year old son who was taken away from her after her arrest on immigration charges and put up for adoption in Missouri despite her objections.

A Missouri judge ruled the boy should stay with the Missouri couple, Melinda and Seth Moser, who took him into their home five years ago while his mother was in federal custody, where she attempted in vain to oppose the adoption proceedings.

George Zimmerman Wants African-Americans to Apologize to Him

An unrepentant George Zimmermann sat down with Sean Hannity and asked African-Americans to apologize to him, even though he never apologized for shooting Trayvon Martin.

Collapse )The real kicker came when Zimmerman accused African-Americans of rushing to judgement and asked everyone who he claims rushed to judgement to apologize to him. Zimmerman said, “I can’t guess to what their motives are. I would just ask for an apology. I mean if I did something that was wrong. I would apologize.”

His statement was very telling in that since Zimmerman himself never apologized specifically for shooting Trayvon Martin, he must not think that shooting him was wrong.

The whole Hannity interview was a heavily choreographed exercise designed to allow George Zimmerman to play the victim. Every scripted question and answer was done with the intention of helping Zimmerman’s defense. Everything anyone needs to know about the remorseless George Zimmerman can be found in this interview.

George Zimmerman thinks he is the real victim here, and he is waiting for Al Sharpton, Spike Lee, and the African-American community to apologize. Somehow, I think he is going to be waiting for a very long time.

"Mike Huckabee: Keeping Gays Out Of Boy Scouts Will Protect Boys From Abuse"

Keeping Gays out of the Boy Scouts will ensure that those young men will never be at risk of being molested! Just ask this one guy who was molested in the Boy Scouts! ...Wait

Though the Boy Scouts of America has not yet explained what conclusions led it to reaffirm that discriminating against gay scouts and leaders was “absolutely the best policy” for its organization, plenty of conservatives have made clear which fallacious anti-gay myth they believe motivated the decision. On his radio show yesterday, Mike Huckabee spelled out in no uncertain terms that he believes the policy is “right” because it protects boys from abuse. He welcomed a call from a listener who had been abused by his scout leader, and Huckabee agreed that part of the definition of “homosexual” is molesting children:

CALLER: I believe homosexuals try to target groups like that, to get a leadership area in, and if there hadn’t have been a homosexual in my troop, I wouldn’t have been traumatized for about three years.

HUCKABEE: I think if anybody wants to argue about this case, they need to hear your story. That’s very powerful. I thank you for having the candor to share it with us, and again, you make us all understand why the Boy Scouts made a decision that I at least think was the right one.

http://mediamatters.org/video/2012/07/18/huckabee-cites-molestation-as-justification-for/187214

Comments like Huckabee’s (and the Liberty Counsel’s) are egregiously offensive and harmful. Drawing a connection between homosexuality and pedophilia is the same weak argument John Briggs was making 40 years ago in an attempt to ban gay teachers in California. It’s unfounded slander against the entire gay community.

Pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which individuals have a primary or exclusive sexual interest in children. It in no way defines or relates to an individual’s sexual orientation — it refers only to age and level of sexual development. That gay men are attracted to men makes them no more likely to abuse children than straight men because they are attracted to women. As psychologists have stated for years, “There is no inherent connection between an adult’s sexual orientation and her or his propensity for endangering others.”

Kennedy family acting like crime clan after Kerry's alleged drugged-driving crash: cops

19.1N019.kennedy1.C--300x300.jpg

They’re playing by mob rules.

The Kennedy clan’s ramped-up reaction to Kerry Kennedy’s alleged drugged-driving smashup has upstate authorities likening the brood to a bunch of wiseguys, sources said yesterday.

“The family is so aggressive, they act like some organized-crime family,” said a law-enforcement source familiar with the case.

“They come right out playing hardball with bare knuckles — they don’t even know the facts.”

Kennedy, 52, the ex-wife of Gov. Cuomo and daughter of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after cops said they found her unable to walk, talk or see straight minutes after a harrowing drive on Interstate 684 last Friday.

Kennedy, who allegedly weaved in and out of traffic and cut off several drivers before slamming her Lexus into a tractor-trailer and fleeing the scene, initially told cops she may have taken the potent sleeping drug Ambien.

But just minutes after police announced her arrest, Kennedy’s camp insisted that blood and urine tests conducted by private doctors in the hours after the 8 a.m. crash showed no drugs or alcohol in her system.

“Ninety minutes after the State Police issued a press release, [Kennedy spokesman] Ken Sunshine puts out a release that says she’s clean. Right now, they’re obfuscating. I don’t believe any of it,” said the law-enforcement source.

“Could she really have had some kind of seizure [as she now claims]? Who knows? They painted themselves into a corner. She admitted taking Ambien, now they say no. Either it’s there or it’s not, either it’s in the blood or it isn’t — period.

“It’s absolutely black and white depending on the drug tests. If the tests show something above therapeutic levels, you have a slam-dunk case.”

Kennedy family sources said they are confident the official toxicology results will mimic the private results.

On Tuesday, Kennedy pleaded not guilty to the charges.

She apologized to truck driver Rocco Scuiletti and the other drivers she endangered and said her doctors believe she had a seizure, which may have been connected to an old head injury.

She didn’t elaborate on the old injury, but a source said it could have occurred in college, when Kennedy bungee-jumped out of a window at Brown University and hit the pavement.

He said Kennedy’s doctors are still conducting neurological and other tests.

Meanwhile, Kennedy yesterday said she’s open to apologizing to trucker Scuiletti in person.

Scuiletti, who was suspended by his employer after he didn’t report that Kennedy plowed into him, called her apology “very heartwarming,” and suggested they meet for “coffee and pie.”

Ann Romney: "We've given all you people need to know.”

Ann Romney dismissed concerns about her husband’s tax returns Thursday, contending that the two of them have “given all you people need to know.”

“You know, you should really look at where Mitt has led his life, and where he’s been financially,” the potential first lady said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “He’s a very generous person. We give 10 percent of our income to our church every year. Do you think that is the kind of person who is trying to hide things, or do things? No. He is so good about it. Then, when he was governor of Massachusetts, didn’t take a salary for four years.”

“We’ve given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life,” she added later.

George Zimmerman: This could’ve all been avoided if I had a proper Latino name

George Zimmerman isn’t exactly doing himself any favors.

The man who claims he killed African-American teenager Trayvon Martin in self-defense, sparking a national uproar, is facing allegations that he molested a close family relative when she was a child, according to TheGrio. Now a statement he made is sure to undergo scrutiny by the prosecution as well.

b“I think that honestly all of this could’ve been avoided if my parents would’ve given me a proper Hispanic/Latino name,” Zimmerman says to a family member on a jailhouse phone, according to transcripts released on Monday.

Zimmerman then says a name like “Jorge” rather than George, would have helped him out.

“But you have the most American name in the world,” the female tells him.

Then he adds sarcastically that his family “should’ve named me George Herbert Walker,” alluding to former president George H.W. Bush.

Zimmerman also takes issue with a media description of him as a “white Hispanic.”

“Honestly, they’re gonna give me a complex,” he says. “Every time I see my photo I say, ‘What’s a white Hispanic?’”

Zimmerman’s problems will only intensify after the revelation that he molested a family member, known as “witness 9.”

Ann Romney: "We've given all you people need to know"

WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney's wife is reinforcing her husband's refusal to make public several years of tax returns, telling ABC News "we've given all you people need to know" about the family's finances.

"You know, you should really look at where Mitt has led his life, and where he’s been financially," she said in her interview with Robin Roberts. "He’s a very generous person. We give 10 percent of our income to our church every year. Do you think that is the kind of person that is trying to hide things, or do things? No. He is so good about it. Then, when he was governor of Massachusetts, didn’t take a salary in the four years."

Disclose Act fails to gain closure

53 senators were in favor of a measure that would require certain political advertisers to name anyone who kicked in $10K or more to fund the ad flight. However, 53 was far short of the 60 needed to break a Republican filibuster.

The measure would have applied to corporations, unions and PACs. According to a Politico report, the bill from Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) was a second attempt, and subject to an attempt to be more palatable to Republicans by removing a requirement to include a disclosure tag on all ads and by moving the bill’s effective date to 2013 after this year’s elections are in the books.

It has mainly been the Democratic Party that has been seeking legislative remedies to counteract the results of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling. This is the latest unsuccessful attempt.

This time they called out Republicans who have previously called for campaign funding reforms, prominently including BCRA co-sponsor John McCain (R-AZ). McCain had none of it, however, saying that the Democratic effort was an example of opportunism and demagoguery.

RBR-TVBR observation: Attempts to limit election spending are difficult to pass in the first place. We then watch them get picked apart piece by piece in the courts. And the gush of money into the political system only seems to strengthen regardless. This issue will never go away, until somebody finds a way to write a bill that can attract bipartisan support, avoid loopholes and be challenge-proof. If that sounds impossible, that’s because it probably IS impossible.

Second judge rejects state voter ID law

Requirement will not be in place for fall elections
By Patrick Marley of the Journal Sentinel

Madison - A second judge has declared Wisconsin's voter ID law unconstitutional, further guaranteeing that the ID requirement will not be in place for elections this fall.

Dane County Circuit Judge David Flanagan wrote Tuesday that the state's requirement that all voters show photo ID at the polls creates a "substantial impairment of the right to vote" guaranteed by the state constitution.

In March, Flanagan issued an injunction temporarily blocking the law because the plaintiffs - the Milwaukee branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the immigrant rights group Voces de la Frontera - were likely to succeed in their arguments. Flanagan made that injunction permanent in the 20-page decision he issued Tuesday.
