SuperPAC Ad Claims Obama Is Working To "Force Gay Marriage" On U.S.

A new ad from the Campaign for American Values SuperPAC's advertisement claims that President Obama is trying "to force gay marriage on the country." The couple in the ad say that isn't the "change" they voted for, a claim that overstates Obama's position on the issue.

The ad, was first reported by New York Observer's Politicker which tied the ad to Gary Bauer, the evangelical political leader.

BitTorrent study finds most file-sharers are monitored.

Anyone using file-sharing service BitTorrent to download the latest film or music release is likely to be monitored, UK-based researchers suggest.

A Birmingham University study indicates that an illegal file-sharer downloading popular content would be logged by a monitoring firm within three hours.

The team said it was "surprised" by the scale of the monitoring.

Invisible Obama: The Backlash for Mitt Romney and Clint Eastwood

Insiders debate whether bizarre convention speech hurt the GOP candidate, as Democratic fundraisers seize on speech to drum up contributions.

This story first appeared in the Sept. 14 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

For years, Democrats have been criticized for relying too heavily on such celebrities as George Clooney and Barbra Streisand to communicate their message to voters. But in the aftermath of Clint Eastwood's bizarre speech Aug. 30 at the Republican National Convention, political insiders are assessing the potential damage to GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. At the same time, Hollywood's anxious Democratic fund-raisers are seizing on the perceived gaffe as the campaign hits its crucial homestretch.

Germany's Gay Rights Debate Becomes Heated

German policymakers have recently indicated a willingness to further broaden rights for gays and lesbians in civil unions. But the debate has become heated this week as a conservative politician and the country's largest newspaper have questioned the move.

Katherina Reiche may have thought she was just reiterating her party's traditional pro-nuclear family stance. But remarks she made earlier this week on gay marriage have triggered an outpouring of protest. Indeed, the Internet fury has reached such dimensions that Reiche has taken her own Facebook page offline.

In remarks published in the Tuesday edition of the mass circulation newspaper Bild, Reiche called on her party, the center-right Christian Democratic Union, to stand by the institutions of marriage and family. "Our future lies in the hands of the family, not in same-sex civil unions," she said, reacting to a recent German debate about rights for gay and lesbian couples in civil unions. "Next to the euro crisis, demographic change is the biggest threat to our prosperity," she added, in a reference to the fact that Germany's low birth rate is expected to cause the population to shrink dramatically in the coming decades. The CDU, she said, "must say clearly that it stands for family, children and marriage."

Best source I could find :/ . The remarks she made actually went a hell of a lot further than this article seems to imply if you read the actual interview in German. I wasn't able to find a translated source for that though. The bit about the demographic change was certainly directly related to her idea that gay couples are contributing to the decline in the number of Germans having kids.

Gina Rinehart still won't shut up.

World’s Richest Woman Suggests Workers Should Make $2 Per Day

The world’s richest woman has equated Australia’s minimum wage to “class warfare,” following her controversial article last week where she called poor workers coddled, lazy drunks. Australian billionaire Gina Rinehart, who inherited her $30 billion fortune and mining empire, pointed to workers who make less than $2 as a model for economic competitiveness in mining:

"We must be realistic, not just promote class warfare. Indeed, if we competed at the Olympic games as sluggishly as we compete economically, there would be an outcry.

The evidence is unarguable that Australia is indeed becoming too expensive and too uncompetitive to do export- orientated business. Africans want to work. Its workers are willing to work for less than $2 per day. Such statistics make me worry for this country’s future."

Australia Prime Minister Julia Gillard responded harshly to Rinehart. “It’s not the Australian way to toss people $2, to toss them a gold coin, and then ask them to work for a day,” Gillard said. “We support proper Australian wages and decent working conditions.”

Rinehart’s flawed logic draws on a popular myth among U.S. conservatives, that increasing the minimum wage would impact job and economic growth. But a significant body of research shows that higher minimum wages have no effect on employment levels.

It's amazing how you can have a person so obscenely wealth, but so IMMENSELY stupid and selfish at the same time.

To the Boys, Her Role Is Simple: Teammate

South Plantation High School’s third-string quarterback was warming up on the sideline before the fourth quarter of a recent preseason game, and each pass was quick, concise and purposeful. The quarterback’s nervous mother, Kathleen DiMeglio, was capturing the moment on video from the bleachers. Then, in an instant, the quarterback vanished from the frame, lost amid the sea of white jerseys.

Hacker Group Claims to Have Romney’s Tax Returns

Hackers: Ransom for Romney Returns

Mitt Romney’s tax returns are reportedly in the hands of a team of hackers who plan on releasing them publicly at the end of the month unless a ransom is paid.

The group allegedly obtained the files from PricewaterhouseCooper’s Tennessee office on Aug. 25, in what was described on PasteBin as a Mission Impossible-like caper:

Romney’s 1040 tax returns were taken from the PWC office 8/25/2012 by gaining access to the third floor via a gentleman working on the 3rd floor of the building. Once on the 3rd floor, the team moved down the stairs to the 2nd floor and setup shop in an empty office room. During the night, suite 260 was entered, and all available 1040 tax forms for Romney were copied. A package was sent to the PWC on suite 260 with a flash drive containing a copy of the 1040 files, plus copies were sent to the Democratic office in the county and copies were sent to the GOP office in the county at the beginning of the week also containing flash drives with copies of Romney’s tax returns before 2010. A scanned signature image for Mitt Romney from the 1040 forms were scanned and included with the packages, taken from earlier 1040 tax forms gathered and stored on the flash drives.

The files are to be released to the public on Sept. 28, according to the PasteBin document.

The release, however, could allegedly be avoided if Romney’s camp were to wire transfer $1 million in Bitcoins — an online currency that is difficult both to trace and to identify.

paul ryan asks for money from obamacare

Exclusive: Paul Ryan Quietly Requested Obamacare Cash
Lee Fang on September 5, 2012 - 1:35 PM ET

Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan is barnstorming the country, promising to repeal every provision of the Affordable Care Act if the Romney-Ryan ticket is elected. But a letter he wrote to the Obama administration may undermine this message.

On December 10, 2010, Ryan penned a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services to recommend a grant application for the Kenosha Community Health Center, Inc to develop a new facility in Racine, Wisconsin, an area within Ryan’s district. “The proposed new facility, the Belle City Neighborhood Health Center, will serve both the preventative and comprehensive primary healthcare needs of thousands of new patients of all ages who are currently without healthcare,” Ryan wrote.

Madeleine Albright: 'I Can't Understand Why Any Woman Would Want To Vote For Mitt Romney'

[Mods: this post was rejected when I posted it yesterday. The reason given was "no source." The source WAS provided, but evidently a slight typo in my html messed up the link.]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There's been no shortage of musing over Mitt Romney's failure to win over female voters. The gender gap is pronounced, and with the efforts of the president's political team, growing wider. Romney has been criticized for his failure to speak out in support of equal pay for equal work, he's been tied to some of his party's more hardline positions on abortion, and has been caricatured as a relic of a bygone era in which women put career ambitions aside.

But for all the talk of Romney's trouble among women voters, no Democrat has put it in the terms that former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright did in an interview with The Huffington Post on Monday.

"I'm not sure I'm going to state this exactly right," she said, sitting amidst a sea of convention-related activity and daytime wine drinkers in the Westin hotel lobby in downtown Charlotte. "But I think there are some who believe they are actually protecting women, you know, and that it is better for women to be taken care of. I think women want to take care of themselves, and I think having a voice in how that is done is very important. And frankly, I don’t understand -- I mean, I'm obviously a card-carrying Democrat -- but I can't understand why any woman would want to vote for Mitt Romney, except maybe Mrs. Romney."

Cabinet reshuffle: a good day for Maria Miller but a bad day for women

David Cameron has ended the day with even fewer women in the cabinet than he started with. Despite Maria Miller's promotion to culture secretary, it's a lost opportunity.

Imagine the scene. The female policy adviser brought in to advise David Cameron on his "problem with women" tells him what they want from his first reshuffle: "Get rid of a couple of the most senior women for a start," she says, "then promote one woman to cover all those pesky media and sports problems as well as women and equalities. Oh, and make sure she is opposed to abortions and gay marriage while you're there. That should do the trick."

Sadly, this isn't a scene from the new series of The Thick of It but, judging by the government reshuffle, probable advice.
