Unmasking Reddit’s Violentacrez, The Biggest Troll on the Web

Last Wednesday afternoon I called Michael Brutsch. He was at the office of the Texas financial services company where he works as a programmer and he was having a bad day. I had just told him, on Gchat, that I had uncovered his identity as the notorious internet troll Violentacrez (pronounced Violent-Acres).

"It's amazing how much you can sweat in a 60 degree office," he said with a nervous laugh.

Judging from his internet footprint, Brutsch, 49, has a lot to sweat over. If you are capable of being offended, Brutsch has almost certainly done something that would offend you, then did his best to rub your face in it. Collapse )

Fukushima Operator Admits Nuclear Crisis Was Avoidable

Fukushima Operator Admits Nuclear Crisis Was Avoidable

The operator of Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant on Friday admitted it had played down the risks to the facility of a tsunami for fear of the political, financial and reputational cost.

The admission is one of the starkest yet by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), which has been criticised for trying to shirk responsibility for the worst nuclear disaster in a generation.

The report says before the huge waves of March 2011 smashed into the plant the company was aware defences against natural disaster were insufficient, but did not act because of the possible consequences.

"There was a latent fear that plant shutdown would be required until severe accident measures were put in place," Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said in a report.

Cleveland bus driver punches passenger in graphic viral video; uppercut leads to suspension

Artis Hughes, a 22-year employee of the Regional Transit Authority in Cleveland, was named this afternoon as the bus driver in the now infamous "uppercut" videos showing him punching a female passenger and throwing her off the bus.

Hughes has been suspended pending the investigation and he and his union president have been notified, an RTA spokeswoman said. The female passenger was identified as Shidea N. Lane, 25.

The RTA released the police reports on the incident, including statements by both combatants.

Hughes told RTA police that he had been assaulted by the young woman, but declined to press charges, RTA officials said. Transit Police and Beachwood Police were both called to the scene. Lane also did not file a report or charges against Hughes at the scene.

This has become a huge controversy. It trended on twitter and started a online dialogue with people debating whether or not the driver had the right to "defend himself."

Grenade burns sleeping girl as SWAT team raids Billings home

A 12-year-old girl suffered burns to one side of her body when a flash grenade went off next to her as a police SWAT team raided a West End home Tuesday morning.

"She has first- and second-degree burns down the left side of her body and on her arms," said the girl's mother, Jackie Fasching. "She's got severe pain. Every time I think about it, it brings tears to my eyes."

Medical staff at the scene tended to the girl afterward and then her mother drove her to the hospital, where she was treated and released later that day.
