A decisive conclusion is necessary

A decisive conclusion is necessary
There is no middle path here – either the Gazans and their infrastructure are made to pay the price, or we reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip.

Anyone who thinks Hamas is going to beg for a cease-fire, that Operation Pillar of Defense will draw to a close and quiet will reign in the South because we hit targets in the Gaza Strip, needs to think again.

With the elimination of a murderous terrorist and the destruction of Hamas’s long-range missile stockpile, the operation was off to an auspicious start, but what now? This must not be allowed to end as did Operation Cast Lead: We bomb them, they fire missiles at us, and then a cease-fire, followed by “showers” – namely sporadic missile fire and isolated incidents along the fence. Life under such a rain of death is no life at all, and we cannot allow ourselves to become resigned to it.

The writer, whom I currently think is evil, is the son of former PM of Israel Ariel Sharon.

He certainly isn't alone in his thinking; according to a HuffPo article: Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yishai is reported by The Yeshiva World News to have said, "We must blow Gaza back to the Middle Ages, destroying all the infrastructure including roads and water." Haaretz also reports that Yishai stated, "The goal of the operation is to send Gaza back to the Middle Ages."

So far, 73 Palestinians and 3 Israelis have died.

Paul McCartney: “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.”

Paul McCartney has delivered an anti-turkey Christmas message, telling people to go vegetarian this festive season.

The former Beatle appears in animal rights charity PETA's new Christmas advertising campaign, wearing an 'eat no turkey' t-shirt beneath the slogan, "celebrate life this holiday season, go vegetarian."

McCartney has also recorded a voiceover for the group's latest campaign video about the meat industry titled 'Glass Walls' after McCartney's quote, "If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian."

Speaking about what the McCartney household eats over Christmas, he says: "We eat a veggie roast at home, so if we have traditional moments like Christmas … the roast is perfect. It's completely vegetarian, but I can slice it, so I can do all my traditional dad things. We can do our family stuff with it, and it's delicious, so I much prefer that to my memory of turkey."

Paul McCartney is the latest musician to join PETA's campaign to promote animal rights. Joss Stone appeared naked in an anti-fur Scampaign.

Roma segregation remains a serious problem in the Czech Republic

Prague, 15/11/2012 -

“The “practical schools” in the Czech Republic perpetuate segregation of Roma children, inequality and racism. They should be phased out and replaced by mainstream schools that need to be properly prepared to host and provide support to all pupils, irrespective of their ethnic origin. There are certain examples in the country that show the feasibility of this necessary paradigm shift, which will require the government’s political will and sustained commitment”, stated the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muižnieks, after his four-day visit to the Czech Republic.

The Commissioner visited an elementary school in Kladno, near Prague, which has a capacity of 309 pupils but currently hosts only 93 Roma schoolchildren. “This big school is an example of the ethnically segregated practical schools for which the Czech state spends more than double the expenditure ofmainstream schools, while their graduates as a rule end up unemployed and dependent on state benefits”. Commissioner Muižnieks regretted that five years after the D.H. judgment by the Strasbourg Court’s Grand Chamber, the violations found therein have not been redressed. “I urge the Czech government to provide a realistic budget, concrete timeline and indicators in order to bring to an end the vicious circle of segregated education that affects Roma children and costs the whole country so much , both financially and socially. The commitment expressed by the Ministry of Education to fully execute the D.H. judgment and provide quality education to Roma is promising and needs to be fully supported”.

Prison probes allegations guard traded 'sex for drugs'

The Ontario women’s prison under the microscope for the 2007 fatal self-strangulation of troubled teen Ashley Smith is grappling with new allegations that a male guard was smuggling drugs in exchange for sexual favours from at least one female inmate.
CBC News has learned that officials at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, Ont., suspended a guard this fall and are now conducting an internal investigation based on anonymous complaints.

The guard in question is related to a senior manager at the prison. A prison spokesperson wouldn’t discuss the case other than to confirm Corrections is dealing with the matter internally and has not notified an outside police service.

"Due to an ongoing investigation and the Privacy Act, it would be inappropriate for the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) to comment on the specifics of this allegation," CSC spokesperson Wendy Smith told CBC News in an email.

"CSC takes this situation very seriously and expects staff to act according to the highest legal and ethical standards."

By day, Danny Boi is an unassuming radio personality with 96.5 KBRZ in Kansas City. Ok, he's actually fairly assuming By night — ok, also by day — he is the would-be super hero who launched a White House petition to save the Twinkie. So far, the petition has over 3,000 signatures. It hopes to reach a goal of 25,000 by December 16th.
Rush Limbaugh thought Boi was serious.
