I read it. Beautiful! There were a couple items that right-wingers could pull out against him, but we've got to get past that kind of thing. In context, what he was talking about was excellent! It's almost like he's telling the moslems of the world that we aren't out to seek their religion's destruction! I'm hopeful that he will be able to somewhat marginalize Al Queda and the other freaks, and bring some new opportunities to many other moslems.

right-wingers are not physically able to get past anything. It's a genetic mutation in their DNA.

"THE PRESIDENT: The largest one, Indonesia. And so what I want to communicate is the fact that in all my travels throughout the Muslim world, what I've come to understand is that regardless of your faith -- and America is a country of Muslims, Jews, Christians, non-believers -- regardless of your faith, people all have certain common hopes and common dreams."

There he goes, on about nonbelievers again...

and he mentioned the Muslims before the Christians.

the Islamophobic Christian right will shit their pants.

This was great!
leitao 27th-Jan-2009 07:37 am (UTC)
Great interview. Nice to see some extension of good will to the Muslim world after so many years of cold-shouldering and no communication.

Man, Limbaugh and O'Reilly are gonna be up in arms tomorrow. God forbid we not be racist assholes and treat the middle east like a location full of human beings rather than a place to test our bomb accuracy. I'm sure somebody's gonna say he's pandering to terrorists or some such shit.

But who gives a fuck about them!

I'm glad he's engaging a dialogue. It's a good start. We'll have to wait and see where he goes from here. I still worry about our sometimes over-the-top support of Israel, but I'm optimistic about President Obama's ability to see both sides of things.

And the title reminded me of Aladin >_>
haruhiko 27th-Jan-2009 08:24 am (UTC)
OMG ALADDIN IS A LIBERAL CUZ HE'S ALL: "I steal only what I can't afford (and that's everything!)."
shirozora 27th-Jan-2009 08:05 am (UTC)
*freaks out*

FINALLY someone's not only willing to talk and extend a hand to the Muslim world but is also willing to actually do it. Our neocons and their radicals can shit their pants to hell and back; we're sick of the idiocy and obsolete mentality that's hurting too many people. It's the 21st century; let's start acting like human civilization grew up!
missanemone 27th-Jan-2009 08:18 am (UTC)
they were showing clips of this on CNN when i was at the gym but i didn't know what they were talking about.
*goes off to watch*

sinisterwilliam "What a guy..."27th-Jan-2009 09:04 am (UTC)
Goodness gracious...Obama took questions, gave answers and did all politely, to the point and without spouting off buzzwords or stumbling too much!

And to an Arab News Network at that!

Hoo boy.

They bring up bush using the neocon style term "Islamofacism..."

Remember Michelle Bachmann?

Goodness me oh my, quoted on Hardball wasn't the same as things she said behind closed doors and on the record. It's an entire movement of ignorant lumping in a catchy compound word they made up to defend Israel and hate on those remotely like the people they blame for 9.11 (that is...Muslims.)

Seriously, not since McCarthyism have people shoveled around crap like that
(well, not true, THEY HAVE), but this time it backfires on 'em.

Rock on President Barack.
sinisterwilliam Re: "What a guy..."27th-Jan-2009 09:06 am (UTC)
excuse me, if I RECALL, I believe it was her that was all about stopping "Islamofacism" and what not...
bord_du_rasoir 27th-Jan-2009 09:12 am (UTC)
People who say that Obama is the same as Bush and that there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans really piss me off.
