REPORTERS MAKE TOTALLY NON-FORCED AND CONSENSUAL ADMISSION TO ENTERING N KOREA ILLEGALY

10:10 pm - 06/16/2009
Two US journalists who were jailed last week in North Korea have admitted to entering the country illegally, according to state news agency KCNA.

Laura Ling and Euna Lee "admitted and accepted" their sentences, KCNA said.

The two women were sentenced to 12 years in a labour camp after being found guilty of crossing into North Korea from the Chinese border in March.

KCNA also said they had admitted getting footage for a "smear campaign" about North Korea's human rights.

Oh yeah, I saw that on CNN this morning. Except, in typical CNN style, there wasn't any "but you know, perhaps it should be considered that they were also terrified for their safety and freedom" attached. It was like, a five second blurb of "They confessed to their crimes at the trial."

AND THAT'S ALL, FOLKS!

I'm sure they also finally freely admitted that Dear Leader is the tallest, most awesome golfer and bestest dude in the world and that his glasses aren't at all stupid looking.

We all know that North Korea never lies about anything.

It's amazing to me that N. Korea does not realize that this IS the smear campaign. We don't need journalists to film the evil things you do when you sentence them to 12 years in a concentration camp for *maybe* entering the country.

Going to pretend I believe this though and hope they let them out.

Also going to offer Elizabeth Hasslebeck in exchange again.

Oh, it gets better:

"The investigation proved that the intruders crossed the border and committed the crime for the purpose of making animation files to be used for an anti-DPRK smear campaign over its human rights issue," the Korean Central News Agency said Tuesday.

Yesssss, American journalists will make smear CARTOONS. OK, then.

They are a special brand of "you are on the BAD drugs" in N. Korea, yo.

Is it just me or has there been a huge lack of coverage/loud condemnations of NK wrt to them compared to Roxana Saberi, when their lives seem in much more immediate danger? Does this indicate a lack of interest, or is the US actually this scared of NK (won't dare pressure them)?

TBH I feel bad for Lisa Ling*, she's a good reporter. :(

*the sister of Laura Ling

I noticed the same thing and I actually thought because it was the sister of Laura Ling, that they would get MORE attention.

I think its because we like to demonize Iran more than N. Korea (both are reprehensible, but we seem to pick fights with Iran more)
