ceilidh_ann 16th-Jun-2009 08:02 pm (UTC)
Since CNN is making a fuckery of things, are there any other US news sites that are doing a better job talking about it?
wyntur_snow 16th-Jun-2009 08:05 pm (UTC)
Okay I seriously don't have cable and I have NO clue what's going on. Wtf is CNN doing NOW?
flowerings 16th-Jun-2009 08:03 pm (UTC)
Okay, I'm done with CNN. I just can't do it anymore.
saigonostalker 16th-Jun-2009 08:04 pm (UTC)
If my only possible alternative weren't Fox & Friends, I would be right there with you.

Do any Canadians know if Harper has commented on Iran yet?
leprofessional 16th-Jun-2009 08:06 pm (UTC)
I don't believe Harper, but his foreign minister did I think beside Clinton two days ago...

Oh here

In some of the most vocal expression of dissent in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution, pro-reform idealism came face-to-face with hard-line militiamen, loyal to Ahmadinejad, who opened fire and killed one protester and wounded others as thousands took to Tehran's streets to express their anger at what they saw as a stolen election.

"We have called for a full and transparent investigation into electoral fraud and discrepancies," Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon told Parliament in Ottawa, as the government called Iran's top diplomat on the carpet to explain the reported beating and detention of a freelance Canadian journalist in Tehran following Friday's contested ballot.

"The security force's brutal treatment of peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable."

3:53 PM ET -- "Allah O Akbar!" Video from today's events starts to trickle out, this one sent by reader Toni. The description: "People gathering in front of IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) to protest against its biased broadcast."

I'm Toni, y'all! O_O!

Crazy video in link. Is that actually HQ?
keeperofthekeys 16th-Jun-2009 08:07 pm (UTC)
WARNING: That video actually gets little intense at the end. I had to shut it off, but I'm very sensitive to such personal violence.
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Jun-2009 08:08 pm (UTC)
I'm writing a follow-up article to my first one explaining the situation in Iran, and I was wondering which non-graphic images people found to be the most powerful of the violence? I've been wading through flickr and whatnot all day, but suggestions would be awesome.
ceilidh_ann 16th-Jun-2009 08:10 pm (UTC)
The picture of the protesters gathered together yesterday is my favourite. It's so overwhelming and to see all those people together for a cause is strangely beautiful. I posted it a few pages back but can't remember which page exactly.

That's it, I'm giving MSNBC a chance. Since I love the channel anyways.
lindra 16th-Jun-2009 08:15 pm (UTC)
I'm always strangely envious of Americans with their MSNCBCIF and FOXUEUALA and CNNNMMNN and ESRSPN and such. it's so ... acrononymtacular.
leprofessional Catch-2216th-Jun-2009 08:12 pm (UTC)
It still pisses me off that people are dying, for their votes... so that Mousavi can be elected president. I wish it was someone more deserving. :(

Even if he is elected, after this hooplah people will become complacent and Iran's freedom movement will be set back 10 years. God damn it. If he is not-- well it can become really really bad, or the movements will subside (but continue to boil underneath) or people will overthrow AN in a rush ~ and maybe end up with something even worse.

Double edge swords. Hate them.

Where do you keep finding your pictures? They're absolutely gorgeous.
jmclive 16th-Jun-2009 08:14 pm (UTC)
I just got a Twitter to try and help. Do I just retweet stuff?
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Jun-2009 08:15 pm (UTC)
That's pretty much the most we can do, really.
omgggwth 16th-Jun-2009 08:15 pm (UTC)
Student dies after police shooting in isfahan university (difficult to watch) http://tinyurl.com/mxk84k (expand) #iranelection #gr88

It's graphic and intense for those people who would rather not see.
saigonostalker 16th-Jun-2009 08:16 pm (UTC)
This sort of stuff is absolutely horrific, but somehow I feel it would be even worse if no one ever saw it.
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Jun-2009 08:17 pm (UTC)
God. It seems like the right thing to do UNTIL YOU PUT TEN SECONDS OF THOUGHT INTO THE CONSEQUENCS.
