Trita Parsi has written a front-page article for TIME, available here. He does a nice job smacking down the "working class vs. spoiled rich kids" and "Mousavi is a big honking leftist reformer" memes, or at least, bringing a little more depth to the conversation.

BTW, Parsi's book "Treacherous Alliance: The Secret Dealings of Iran, Israel and the United States" is EXCELLENT and very even handed... although I was left *headdesking* at the agonizing collective fail of all three countries at various points in the book.

ProtesterHelp Strongly recommend DDOSing Iranian sites during twitter downtime. Someone DM me a link with the most sites. 2 minutes ago from web

Well? I stopped earlier when my browser crashed but if ProtesterHelp is recommending it, I'll start back up.

on a more serious note ia leprofessional/mercaque's assessment of the situation up above on this page.

there's just too many uncertain long-range effects to tell what would be ~best for the people~ right now.

mousavi might be a good candidate, but in throwing so much into this, there's a well of energy that'll probably be exhausted at some point, particularly when more and more people start dying, and exhaustion + dead family/friends = bad equation. and there'll probably be underlying frustrations left over that'll cause issues for WHOEVER ends up ruling/accepted, whether by win or default or wev.

and mousavi might be al he's cracked up to be, but maybe not. and from evidence, he most likely isn't; he's running on a reform platform afaik but he's using it for popular vote not as actual ~political promise~ or wev afaik again.

but making him the iconic figure here disturbs me whether or not they all did vote for him, or however the actual margins played out. it's too much banking on one man and as far as stress tests of a populace go this isn't the best. shit WILL stick to the fan after this, and it'll stink. there's really no good resolution to this atm and outside interference wont help shit, which makes me worried about how surrounding countries are taking this, which, wev, but pivotal role in local politics and all.

gods. i just hope this turns out not to kill too many people/stir up huge ~unrest~ that'll destabilise even further. there's internal crap going on now, but revolution? idk. it's not to that point yet. if it gets there, idk wtf will happen. just a lot of anger and nowhere to go. silent protests work as a motto, but all that energy ... idk. there's a lot riding on this.

i just hope as many people as possible will be okay.

Just catching up on everything, THANK YOU ONTD_P for being so amazing. Seriously, people can think refreshing a LJ community is a waste of time but I learn so much here and get such good updates. I work at a shop and I got my boss to put some green candles in the shop window and hang a green ribbon too. Keep up the good work everyone.

Wait until the twitter downtime so we're not slowing down Iranian internet access to twitter, and then go do your thing here:

lindra Re: DDoS16th-Jun-2009 08:46 pm (UTC)
