I love you, ontd_political. I have been reading and refreshing this post since 8AM. Trying to catch up among doing other things and so haven't been commenting, but it's seriously amazing to see other caring people. Think my father would have taped my mouth shut if I didn't have you guys to depend on for info about this lol.

-- "qbcall11: RT from Iran: "Storm the palace, take down the Supreme Leader, and Guardian Council." #iranelection"

... idk. That sounds like partial confirmation of the Council rumour to me? anybody? bueller?

-- "HeadCountOrg: Young Iranians Express Hope, Fear in Aftermath of Elections. http://bit.ly/1QbtD (expand) #IranElection"

Faux News article, but not too bad, actually!

-- "Biograph: news: RT Do Not Respond To New Twitters. Iran Secret Police Is Cracking Down. Please Do Not Follow New Twitters.#IranElection #Tehran #gr88"

.... hmmmm. :/

-- "tanyabachand: NYC shows solidarity with Iranian people tomorrow night 7pm, Union Station http://bit.ly/K7edC (expand) #iranelection" -- hey, NY ontd_pers! link is to the facebook page for the event, iirc.

in other news, NYTfail is already making a strong appearance.

bluetooth16 17th-Jun-2009 03:01 am (UTC)
Why am I not surprised that the most fail considering American coverage of Iran comes from the Liberal Media? For once Fox isn't doing anything ridic!
saramiskismet 17th-Jun-2009 03:02 am (UTC)
Are they doing anything?
saramiskismet 17th-Jun-2009 03:01 am (UTC)

I know it's not legit but you gotta admit Jon is a bright spot who can find the funny in all this maddness
nograviity Re: DAILY SHOW IS ON - IRANDECISION 0917th-Jun-2009 03:05 am (UTC)
IDK, I'm kind of annoyed at how he downplayed the importance of these social networking sites.
keeperofthekeys 17th-Jun-2009 03:04 am (UTC)
What are the twitter accounts for all the major new networks? I know @cnnbrk, but that's it.
saramiskismet 17th-Jun-2009 03:05 am (UTC)
& we know that the Basiji are trying to make the group look bad, but you also have to know that our of so many people, by now someone who was in original protests and supports Mousavi is going to have done something stupid. Violent people are not necessarily incognito trolls, but they ARE stupid.

They ARE new photos; link goes to The Big Picture

and
"Zanzalot: I SUGGEST ALL PROTESTERS CARRY THE QURAN WITH THEM AND RECITE VERSES TO PREVENT POLICE FROM HITTING YOU. #IRANELECTION"

WTF IS THIS?

-- "bcpierce: RT Iran: Tehran Rallies confirmed-Wed jun17. 5pm SILENT PROTEST 7 Tir Sq. Tehran-Thur jun18. 2pm bolvare sharzad sazmane melal #iranelection"

... I am skeptical.
lindra 17th-Jun-2009 03:06 am (UTC)
I should add that the pictures are pretty fucking amazing.
worb 17th-Jun-2009 03:05 am (UTC)
I'm so grateful for you guys right now. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have known anything about this situation if it wasn't for ontd_political.
i_said_boourns 17th-Jun-2009 03:31 am (UTC)
Same. Or at least not in so much detail
seasleepy 17th-Jun-2009 03:06 am (UTC)
Dude. You guys.

The NYT article you're all freaking out about was posted last night. Before we were supposed to be obscuring twitter usernames.

And it's pretty o_O to be all screaming for the heads of the NYT when the OP here is also linking to the twitterer in question.

It's one thing for us to link. I think it's another thing for the NYT to link, and to continue linking, when it's clear that a) their readership is GIGANTIC, and b) the tweeter in question has recently come under a LOT of pressure from all the international attention.

Damn, this post updated three pages since I started reading it! You people are insane in all the right ways!

I went to a work meeting today with a green armband on (an old, stained white rag that i dyed with diluted paint because i'm ghetto an artist like that). Got a lot of questions about it and a couple of my coworkers were positive about it. Most were just cynical.

Them: Of course the election is a fraud, what did they expect from that place?
Me: They don't want it to be fraudulent anymore, that's why they're protesting!
Them: It's not like our votes count, either.
Me: If you don't like it, you can protest. We don't get shot for it, they are.

At which point another coworker jumped to my defense, saying it was good I was showing support. And then the meeting started. Probably didn't change anything, even to the two that seem curious about it, but at least it was something.
saramiskismet 17th-Jun-2009 03:11 am (UTC)
You tried. I'm proud of you.
