a disturbing trend, just now:

-- pegasus_girl: RT @nathanpiazza: Will Iran get away with this murder of unarmed civilians like China did? #IranElection #Tienanmen

-- ColoradoJ333: #iranelection tanks vs people = chaos and generally tanks win. Let us pray for the students in Tehran.

-- MitraJoon: Medic cousin: No mobile phone-what if we were on call? #iranelection

^ I think this is in reference to earlier twittered advice to turn off mobile phones at protests.

-- MoonMagician: @IranIranIran09 Tabriz is in Iran, Tikrit is in Iraq. Basic geography is required for understanding #iranelection #gr88 #coup

^ Durrrr. I FAIL. :( Sorry, guys.

-- homophile: Mohtashamipour, Head of Mousavi’s election protection committee: Election recount is useless, election must be declared VOID #IranElection

-- saaze: From Iran: As demonstrators moved in that direction, sharpshooters took aim at several people from rooftops at the camp #iranelection #iran9

^ It's audio, I'm deaf, can't hear it -- anybody willing to listen and provide a rough transcript/gist?

Nothing much, actually. Reports of possible protests, and we've lost contact with a lot of the trusted tweeters, but nothing really stands out.

Yeah, I thought I'd play there longer, but it looks like a messhall of people playing catch up now.

BBC World is doing a bit on tango. Argh, I know they can't do the Iran thing forever at like 12am (where I'm from), but still. Also, CNNoise makes me want to kill things, so that's definitely a no.

At least it's not cheeseburger in a can?

... that will never not be surreal.

From Small World News. I've tried to transcribe it below, but there are some words I can't catch (and I have to crash in time for early class) -- help would be appreciated!

"Hi there, I'm [] and I'm calling from Tehran, Iran. Many stuff have been happening here, and I'm just trying to give my personal experience in [daily life?] in Tehran and Iran, to clarify some misunderstood stuff about the events happening in Iran, because I think that the media corporations have been very low and there have been insinuations about the stuff happening here.

Generally, most of the events are happening in specific areas in Tehran and other big cities in Iran. And life experience varies by area. For instance, in areas, things are very calm, but in central areas, I think there are many things happening especially in evenings, afternoons, and during the early hours of the night. The people are worried about their safety and security, including myself and my family. We just need the safety of people and I think that this whole situation is moving towards a worst case and both the regime and some protestors are thinking angry actions and making wrong decisions.

During the last 24 hours, our government has made some [] decisions and stayed against what people are demanding in the country, which has made many of the people angry at them, and I think this has worsened the situation in Iran.

For now, things are very calm, specifically during the mornings, we experience wide rumours on both sides that are trying to deceive people on the other side and other campaigns. However, we've appointed[?] new rallies during this afternoon and evening, and I guess that things will be worse than the past few days and I just hope that they calm down and settle things down.

However, other than the bad life experience in Iran, we worry about the economic situation, because prices are going high very quickly and they're have been many attacks to banks and many economical organisations are down or closed and many of the private companies and corporations are out of order. They have closed their services to people and people are very worried about the future of the country. Many of them just demanded democracy and free election, but now they are worried about the future of the country because things are now driving towards a revolution and this is not a good situation for everybody in the country.

I just hope that things change here. [] the outcoming occasions inside the country and with the outside will be very bad. They have reduced the bandwidth of Internet connections. Many of the websites are closed or hacked and this has been another problem to let the rumours find their ways inside the society. People don't have official resources to get their news.

I just hope that things settle down very quickly. Thank you for listening, and I hope that you keep your support and help Iranians to find the best future and real democracy here in Iran. Thank you."

I can't decide if this is scary or awesome.

If you are in Iran and want to post your news use http://www.openemrhq.com/resist/tweetiran.php #IranelEction

is this legit?
toxicxfemme 17th-Jun-2009 07:33 am (UTC)
I thought anything "AnonymousInIran" was deemed fake.
toxicxfemme 17th-Jun-2009 07:35 am (UTC)

This one does not seem legit.

"Please retweet: just signed petition 'Google Earth to update satellite images of Tehran ' - http://301.to/23o"

I thought people were against updating the images.

lindra 17th-Jun-2009 07:37 am (UTC)
It's best not to update them, yeah, but ... even if they were updated, well ... idk. I don't think it matters much. But in general, that's a no, not a good idea. Best to leave it until they do their regular sweeps, which should be a while from now anyway.
piratesswoop 17th-Jun-2009 07:36 am (UTC)
do we have an official slogan for this? i mean something like "fight the power" or whatever. i plan on wearing green tomorrow and i want to write something on my hand but i can't think of anything good enough
lindra 17th-Jun-2009 07:38 am (UTC)
I'm seeing "FREE IRAN", "STAND WITH FREE IRAN", and "WHERE IS THEIR VOTE?" as unofficial slogans.
