Now more than ever I wish my television package came with BBC. Having to choose between Fox News and CNN is a little like being asked to choose between a rotten apple and a rotten orange - neither are particularly palitable.

I will get flayed alive but having MSNBC as another option isn't much better. I guess they're okay until they drag their commentators out, then it's AUGH SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP city.

Apparently the US state department has offered to assist twitter to keep the service up and running!!!

saigonostalker 16th-Jun-2009 06:01 pm (UTC)
Not surprised, since without an embassy in Iran the US government is in the dark just as much as we are.

i went to bed at like 1 last night!

What have I missed?
lone_concertina 16th-Jun-2009 06:08 pm (UTC)
Soooo much. But I'm finally following your suggestion to listen to Gogol Bordello. It's nice angry music that keeps me focused at work, too!

From Sullivan, one of his readers says:

I'm an Iranian living in Canada. A few hours ago I talked to my brother who is a student at Sharif University, he was at the big rally yesterday and they were only feet away from Karoubi when they marched from the university entrance to Azadi square. He asked what had Obama had said and I started reading the transcript. When I got to "the United States can be a handy political football, or discussions with the United States [can be]" my brother sighed and said thank God this guy gets it.
homasse 16th-Jun-2009 06:12 pm (UTC)
I am so happy with the way Obama is handling this. We have got to stay out of this, because any inkling of "foreign interference" would massively backfire.

Another major rally in Tehran planned for tomorrow, according to Tehran Bureau.
xzombifiedx 16th-Jun-2009 06:10 pm (UTC)
ok, I missed a lot, haha.

anyone have a quick summary? between 1 am and now?
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Jun-2009 06:17 pm (UTC)
It's hard to summarize because it's a lot of smaller things. The protest DID happen this morning. There was a rally for Ahmedinejad, who is now in Russia. The news in Iran is saying all of the protests were for Ahmedinejad. The Ayatollahs keep changing their mind about whether or not election results should be accepted. There was a recount that reaffirmed Ahmedinejad won. There was another attack on a university by the Basij. It appears as though police officers are unarmed...

That's all I can think of at the moment.

This is gonna get nasty, y'all.

And here's the round-up of tweets up on Andrew Sullivan's page.

Fuuuuuuck CNN.
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Jun-2009 06:19 pm (UTC)
Do we have any images of today's protest, or are we still waiting on them?
lone_concertina 16th-Jun-2009 06:24 pm (UTC)
I haven't seen much. Cameras were getting taken if they were seen with them, so I doubt there are as many from today.
cookie_nut 16th-Jun-2009 06:20 pm (UTC)
I am late to this because I went shopping for my grandma.

How is everyone? A lot to catch up on. Also, thanks for posting this Bluetooth! :)
ex_irelands 16th-Jun-2009 06:22 pm (UTC)
they're banning foreign media from Iran, apparently

Good to see you, though, bb!
