There's no word on anything for my town, so I'm just going to wear all green and write 'Freedom' in Farsi on my hands. Even that much is better than waiting for other people to join in, I reckon.

People keep talking about pro-Ahmadi rallies, but are they really that comparable to the ones being held by Mousavi supporters? I've only ever read a few articles where pro-Ahmadi rallies were brought up, but I'm curious because they're not really discussed in detail, and it's usually a SEE? PEOPLE DID VOTE FOR HIM kind of deal.

Does anyone know anything about this? Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't know much about it, but I get the ~sense that they're not as big.

HEY GUYS I'M BACK!! T__T I'm trying to catch up as fast as I can.

What happened today?!
southern_shrimp 17th-Jun-2009 07:53 pm (UTC)
It's been pretty peaceful, from what I can remember. But I think it's been confirmed that they're going to march during Friday's prayer.
fruhlings 17th-Jun-2009 07:55 pm (UTC)
Okay, I'm off to Philly now for the rally and then class. Hope everything stays relatively peaceful. <33
southern_shrimp 17th-Jun-2009 07:57 pm (UTC)
Enjoy the rally!

I'm just tossing this idea out there, but is there a possibility we could make another post for this soon? We're nearing 5k comments, and I know they now cut off at 10k, but my browser is lagging like no other.

Argh I was without internet for FAR too long, actually went and DROVE into town to look for a decent newspaper (took me 3 tries, and then I found out that it PRINTED PEOPLE'S TWITTER NAMES, WTF PRINT MEDIA NOT YOU TOOOOOO) but back now.

I was actually asked if I was Irish because that is how my town treats people who wear copious amounts of green. *facepalm at small towns*
saramiskismet 17th-Jun-2009 07:59 pm (UTC)
Around here people would've asked you if you were an arugula-eating hippie liberal.

HEY GAIZ.

I've just gotten home. Early, because I'm sick. (No, really. Well, sorta. I do feel queasy, but I definitely used it to come home early for this.)

If no one has seen or mentioned it yet, I got a Wall Street journal today and they've dedicated the front page + many others to Post-Iran Election articles. There's some interesting stuff in there, including an article all about Mousavi, his past platforms, his current ones, and why -- even if Iran is still run by mullahs and still generally hostile -- he would be good for negotiating with.

Also, there's a lot of mention of people saying that Ahmad remaining president would strengthen chances of sanctions against Iran, because keeping the same president means less waiting around for the new president to get all situated while they build nuclear stuff.

Someone suggested Obama have a meeting with the CEOs of blogging sites (Facebook & Twitter, namely).

IDK, it's interesting stuff to read.

Sounds very interesting.

From HuffPo:

3:14 PM ET -- The "recount" kicks off. "The Fars news agency also reported that the partial recount of votes ordered Tuesday by the Guardian Council, the 12-member body of jurists which supervises elections and holds veto power over legislation in Iran, had begun. A recount of votes in Kermanshah, a Kurdish province, showed that 'there has been no irregularity,' the news agency reported."

OF COURSE. :/
pumpkinwaltz 17th-Jun-2009 08:09 pm (UTC)
Anyway it's not like they'll recount, announce the same results, and Iranians will just be like, "Oh, ok, guess we were wrong!"
cookie_nut 17th-Jun-2009 08:15 pm (UTC)
I think the whole Twitter crashing thing has to do with @peterfacilli

:/

Ordinarily I love him but if he and this other guy cause Twitter to crash, I may have to put out a hit...
